Stop Leaking Goals to move up the Premier League
SaintSteve replied to PinkScarf's topic in The Saints
No, but neither Davis/Gazza are up to it - Boruc MUST play as soon as he's ready. We need authority behind the Back 4. -
But would you rather watch their style of football than ours.. No
-
I think we will lose this one but not many teams get anything at Everton. The key position is RM to prevent marauding attacks down our right side.. Puncheon/Guly or we gamble with Mayuka to keep Baines quiet which NA probably won't do. The RB position is not too important as Richardson won't have a flying winger to contend with. We should play Clyne LB as Fox is shot away
-
Yes, shocking defending by the TEAM; not the RB, LB or CBs alone. Nt back 4 could have dealt with Arsenal today if you give them acres of room in the midfield area.
-
Davis was not good enough last season IMO; a top class G'keeper was a must buy but obviously we could not get our man.
-
To think that leaking goals = crap back4 + goalkeeper is naive to the extreme. Yesterday, our midfield laid off Arsenals playmakers allowing them acres of room and that is our main issue. In fact, Our CBs played OK, there was no cover for either full back apparent, Puncheon and lallana were way off the pace. NA was constantly trying to get the midfield/defence further up the pitch, but the players mentally were afraid of their pace. WE did the same v Man C/Man U but they don't play at Arsenals tempo.
-
I would certainly move lallana back to the left side, he gets less room in the centre and looks lost.. but I would play Lambert in the hole behind Rodriques. The is far too much emphasis on formations; footballers need to think on their feet, with movement off the ball so it can appear as 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 but fluidity is the key to breaking down defences.

Thank God it isn't.. clueless

What was the atmosphere at SMS like today?
SaintSteve replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
It was like a morgue.. almost as if the fans were either as nervous as the players or scratching their heads at this totally different way of playing we have started this season with.. NA needs to be areful not to over-think everything just becoz we are in the Premier. -
Lambert is a class above any other player we have, irrespective of position.. u are blind if you can't see what he gives to the team. This includes Vision, Ball Control, quicker brain which more than makes up for lack of pace. The only games where he may not be 1st player on the team sheet is away against the top 4/5 - as NA does not want to waste his energy for 45 minutes chasing a lost cause. Leave that to Guly or Rodriques.
-
I am disappointed then, as I sit in The Itchen so-called Premium seats and expected to be seeing more comfortable seats. Last season watching Preston in the League Cup ( I think) we moved to the back of Itchen and found more comfortable seats than ours; hence the expectation. It maybe these are reserved for special guests only.
-
You do talk a lot of crap.. it would make more sense if you had football nous, but your ridiculous statements tell otherwise. Do you know what a proven premier footballer looks like.. No. Do you know that NA is a 'yes' man.. No.. so why don't you support a team that spends spends spends... then we would not have to read your crap
-
I think you've said enough.. you obviously fail to see anything positive in Guly; although he is one of the best pickers of a pass in the team. Yes, he has off days, so does lallana, but Guly is a confidence player and if he reads your posts he will not achieve anything. Thank God you don't have a football brain; leave it to Nige :-)

Anyone disagree with the assessment inThe Echo - including the leavers?
SaintSteve replied to Professor's topic in The Saints
Its irrelevant as our Championship squad was put together to achieve promotion which we did; although some of you still had to provide negativity throughout the season. We are now in the PL, and are enhancing the squad with like minded players to continue the progression. I suggest you engage your brain, and think positive. The way we set out to win games will not change and we are not based on individual mindsets, more a team ethic and attacking skills. So, yes last seasons results are irrelevant. -
I used to watch us at Old Trafford with Man U fans in the 70's and have quite often sat in the home stands for other games. Have never had any problems, and personally enjoy the Home fans opinions on both teams.

That's about the only sensible statement you have made. We were promoted as we were the 2nd best team in the division, with the best goal difference. We will continue to attack Premier League teams - lets wait and see whether we control possession and create more chances than the opposition. I expect we will against half of them. -

How Good Can Schneiderlin Get? And Who's Better: Schneiderlin or Cork?
SaintSteve replied to @BHiglett's topic in The Saints
Schneiderlin will grace the premiership whereas Cork will be a squad player IMO. We do need another CM before the season starts but very expensive are midfielders who score goals and unlock defences. -
Totally agree.. will be interesting to see if we go down the 'One season loan and wave goodbye' approach as it does not lend itself to a team culture although potentially beneficial in the short term. However, only an idiot will call NC/NA an idiot as we don't know how good this Guy is - unless people on here travel Europe scouting for our next superstar ?. I suspect its the 'played top level so must be good syndrome' - a la Kalou-less topic on here recently.

Hopefully 2-footed as all Professional footballers should be.. but are not. More important is 'does he have pace' as NC/NA must have realised that the next Central defender bought to our ranks MUST be quick. -
Agreed, the Hard men of football only play half a season these days with suspensions. This Guy certainly has pedigree, and if we are interested, it says a lot about our Premier league approach.. lets score more than the opposition.
-
You really take the prize...so Sheringham never made it in the premiership Lambert is the most skillful player in our squad by a mile.. you don't need pace when your brain is quicker than everyone elses. God forbid.. go watch Saints again and learn

Possibly, but Kalou scores 1 in 10 chances and Boswinga can't defend.. its a mute argument, as I don't think NC/NA would buy them anyway, and there are plenty of clubs with money to waste. -

Youappear to have this blind belief that if a player is signed by one of the big 4/5 they are better players.. ask a Chelsea fan, I know lots of them and they were big mistakes made by the then Manager/Chairman. But if want to think they are great playeers, fine.
