  1. Francis Benali must have seen off how many supposed better left backs that were bought to replace him. Can you name them?
  2. On South Today (I think) on day after their promotion, a classic quote from a Reading fan, "I've been a loyal Reading fan for 20 years and now they are back in the Prem I'm going to start going to games again".
  3. Could it be N J HUTton boat builder in Lymington? http://www.nhuttonboatbuilders.co.uk/index.html
  4. Reading also hosts rugby where there is a shorter half time interval. They have the pumps that fill four (I think) pint glasses in one go.
  5. Reading kept Antonio because they were shedding their high wage earners during that close season. Their expectation was that McAnuf and Kebe would both leave and Antonio would be in their starting line up. They didn't. He wasn't. When he did get picked he was not good so went down the pecking order. Luck of the draw, I guess.
  6. Super design GeckoSaint. Very clean, simple and professional. Will look great from a distance.
  7. Possible simplified image of ML?
  8. Possible simplified image of ML?
  9. They could do worse than getting Avram Grant as their new manager. He's good at getting clubs into the Championship.
  10. As ericofarabia except 7 which is Paul Gilchrist
  11. Absolutely. Markus's money. Nicola's vision.
  12. They don't do a red & white striped paint.
  13. Anyone got a spare? Plz call 07771 773007 thx Rob
  14. Bloomin' 'eck - you used to go some wierd and wonderful ways to get up t'north! The Bullington Cross is indeed boarded up. The last landlord was obviously a big Man U fan judging by the stuff on the walls. Whitchurch is just off the A34 (you would only go to Kingsclere if you were going to Newbury via Basingstoke) and has Whitchurch FC Sports & Social Club, the Harvest Home, Kings Arms, White Hart, Red House, Prince Regent, The Bell, The Railway (presently closed) and The Watership Down. The Swan in Newbury has just had a huge refit. It is in a valley so it is down hill whichever way you get to it. The hill is a bit before it on the Newbury By-Pass as it used to be. Newbury, Whitchurch and Bullington now all bypassed by the A34 and I bet the coaches just stop at Chieveley Services now!
  15. Yes, of course. It's the age you know.........................
  16. The very team that played in the first match I watched. A couple of younger oldies that we lost far too early through injury and illness were Steve Moran and Steve Williams the full back. Both could have represented England with more luck.
  17. Wotton is a limited player, but ask him to do what he can do, sit in front of the back four, pick up their man in the hole, win the ball, give it to a footballer, and you release the other 4 midfielders to be more creative. I thought we started 4-3-3 today and after twenty minutes of dross went to 4-1-4-1, which resulted in a scoreline of er 4 - 1. Sometimes your best team is not made up of your best players.
  18. Took my son, Terry (guess who he was named after...) to his first game when he was 7. We were living in Cornwall in 1985. No internet online sales, no replica Saints shirts - so he had a Liverpool shirt. So when Saints were drawn against Liverpool in the Screen Sports Super Cup I thought it would be a low attendance and the ideal game to start him off. Being born in Cornwall he had no allegiance to Southampton, other than through me, so I was fully prepared for him to support Liverpool. David Armstrong scored first for Saints (a pen near the end) and Tez became a Saint. Of course Saints conceded an equaliser in the last few minutes - so he knew what life was going to be like.
  19. I understand a premiership club where the fans are renowned for giving great support has had attendances of 17,510; 17,826 and 17,564 in the league and 6,645 in the Carling Cup.
  20. The Reading model was Madeski as owner; Nigel Howe as Chief Exec running it on his behalf; a Finance Director; Nicky Hammond as Director of Football, Steve Coppell as Manager. Sound familiar? Who did you associate with running the football side of things at Reading? When Coppell left, the rest stayed and the structure of the club stayed the same.
  21. Perhaps some of the 20,000 plus at Lords were Saints fans and felt watching Hampshire in a competitive cup final in July was a greater priority than a friendly before the football season starts. Can't be in two places at once. Let's see how many turn up for the Millwall game.
  22. Roman Abrimovitch lookalike?
  23. But we had the white Swiss cross on our shirts in 2006/07. Link to it: http://www.subsidesports.com/uk/store/product_details.jsp?pid=72057594037944967&portal=af Deja vu?
  24. I've always thought the 06/07 shirt looked like the Swiss flag. This is the one. http://www.subsidesports.com/uk/store/product_details.jsp?pid=72057594037944967&portal=af
  25. Could this be it? Irish Tycoon In Frame For Saints Takeover - 17/02/2008 Irish cinemas tycoon Tom Anderson has emerged as the latest potential buyer of Southampton. Directors are in talks with a group of local businessman, but Anderson is close to making an offer for the near-30 per cent stake of the club's leading shareholder and former chairman Rupert Lowe. The deal is understood to have been brokered by former Everton chairman Paul Gregg and his associate Tom McLoughlin. It is believed that Gregg may also take an equity stake. Southampton has now been up for sale for 18 months to the growing frustration of its fans. Anderson runs Ward Anderson which took control of a dozen UK movie theatres in 2005 including the Leicester Square Empire. The Anderson family is said to be worth £105m.
