Someone I know works casual in the ticket office was laid off. Now been told she can have as much work as she wants from the middle of June onwards, i.e. season ticket rush.

Well said SW. I know I'm very cynical at the moment, but you're right. Southampton is a naturally attractive city, without any of the tawdry flummery of the common tart that's on display down the other end of the M27. ;-)

Naaah! It was Pride Park (and skate caravans on an awayday).

Quite so. There is a lot in common between the leaderships of the councils and their respective football clubs. On the one hand we have a bunch of naive 'line-toers' who want to play with a straight bat to the financial rules of this world; and on the other hand there are people whose business practices can perhaps most generously be described as 'flexible'... Good guys never win - although I'm not sure about applying this description to some of our recent football club 'leaders'.

Happy Birthday Matt! Hope you enjoyed your meal. See you down the dump sometime.

John Sydenham. Never got the praise he deserved, playing alongside Paine, Chivers, Channon and Davies.

How about two centres? Couple a week in Sri Lanka with Elephant Island tours (google it) - personalised boutique hotels with your own driver doing all the sights, followed by a week's slob-out in the Maldives for sun and scuba. Congrats btw

It at least explains why Jhon's shots were always sprayed around the Chapel and Northam (and Kingsland/Itchen)

For a month now I've had a very nice little white MSI Wind sub-notebook. 10" widescreen, 80GB HD, 1GB RAM, Intel Atom CPU, very nice bright display and a keyboard that you can actually use. For me it strikes the best compromise between portability and functionality. This is also sold by PC World (sorry to swear) simply re-badged as a black-and-silver Advent 4211 for about £279. Mine cost £329 from Play 'cos the missus thought it would look nice in white (it does), has a nifty slip case and I couldn't bring myself to buy anything with an Advent badge. So far it's been rock solid and fast with XP Home. It can also be ordered with a flavour of Linux and apparently someone has hacked it to use OS X. Note no CD/DVD so need to use external USB drive or stick (or network) for software loads. Just google it for reviews... good one here: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/06/20/review_msi_wind/

Paine instead of Keegan on the left.

Sent in my vote for PotM a week or so ago, well before the closing date. I forgot that I had set my email up for read receipts. Had a return today saying my email was deleted without being read! Clear vote rigging if you ask me... Voted Gillett BTW.

Clearly a Sky-sponsored football club auction. Spurs and Man City look like they're sorted. I guess we're left with the Armadillo?

Thanks for the report - up before the OS' own!

Cor, I and 'er actually aghee about this!

Sky don't like Saints. That's why they only feed about 15 secoinds of footage to ITV for the Championship. They had exactly the same 15 seconds of footage on Sky's Championship round-up on Monday.

Agree with most of above. Lallana, Holmes and Cork shone. Simon Gillett for me is an early candidate for player of the season, his workrate, tackling and passing are exceptional. Probably a bit quiet tonight by his standards, though not surprising after his high on Saturday. Agree about the bobbly pitch though - had visions of a 'Robinson' moment for a couple of back-passes...

Have to say I thought that Surman looked so much more comfortable when Fish came on and he moved up to midifeld.

Cracking game. Haven't enjoyed my football so much in years! For those who haven't seen these youngsters - forget the notion that we don't have any 'names'. This is a GOOD TEAM playing GOOD FOOTBALL. Get down there on Saturday and enjoy!
-
Agree with your comments, although the team's been getting better with every game they've played. Also what's different about JP is that he seems to be able to recognise the problem areas that most of the fans can see and talk about them without being negative.
-
What I like about the guy is his irrepressible enthusiasm and optimism for the job. Compared to moaning saggy chops and Burley's downbeat attitude he's a breath of fresh air. Pearson was even a bit depressing at times. JP's attitude is very infectious and will, given time, help to heal some of the deep wounds in this club.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Thomas glaringly at fault for at least two of the goals, he just doesn't appear to know where he's meant to be. Lallana exceptional again. Oh, and ten thugs + Rory Delap a premiership team does not make. Perhaps the ref was asked to ignore their 'muscling' to harden up the youngsters?:-k

Phew, fiver paid willingly. Glad to be back. First Pint Refreshment!
