Hypo, Wait until Saint George sees this thread! It worries me that he quoted me in agreement on another thread. It is still early days but I have high hopes for Obama. He was knocked frequently in the campaign for not detailing policies just talking about change. Wall St liked his pick for Treasury secretary yesterday. He has shown strength of character by reaching out to Clinton as possible Secretary of State (equiv. of Foreign Secretary) despite all the bad blood in the campaign. He will have to work hard to keep the more extreme elements of the Democrat party in check with big majorities in the House and Senate. The US has many similar problems to the UK, aside from current economic ones. Politicians are viewed with something close to contempt but they sometimes get gaught in their corrupt ways - note the Senator from Alaska. But even cases like that are usually one party out to get the other and the papers report, this morning, that a witness lied. I often roll my eyes when I read of some of the stuff going on in the UK in the name of political correctness but we are hardly immune to that here. It sometimes seems that the celebrity culture is out of hand back home and that from the land of Hollywood. I have rambled a bit here but I will end by saying I love the USA, it is a great place to live but I miss the land of my birth - for all it's faults, it is still a great country.

What happens to the rate after 3 years? Make sure that you will be able to afford it then. That is what has got so many people into trouble over here.

The US will save nearly 400 billion on oil imports this year;

Ah, but there will be American made, Japanese cars - Honda, Toyota etc are not in such dire straits as Detroit and the "big" 3. A bail out only delays their problems. They make cars no one wants at a huge cost because of their union agreements that provide things such as free healthcare to the retired autoworkers (or heavily subsidised). The US engineered recession also has everyone rushing back to the mighty greenback for safety. The pound is now below $1.50, as opposed to over $2 in the summer. Makes my trip next week so much cheaper! -
I presume you mean my second comment. I don't say I think its correct, I just thought that others had stated that on another thread - comments I couldn't find last night. If you had a drink with her, you probaly know but I don't make the mistake of believing everything I read.

Long Shot signed a post "Liz" http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=109127&postcount=298 Somewhere I thought it was determined she was the lady made redundant in the summer.

It had better be otherwise I will have travelled a long way for nothing. Oh, well, I will get to see family - real family not the Saints family.

An early "who is going to the Plymouth game" thread?
RoswellSaint replied to RoswellSaint's topic in The Saints
I am choosing to boycott the match threads until Lowe is out...or until I return home. Sorry to all the match thread regulars but I have to take a stand on this. -
Given all the gloom and doom and boycotts, is anyone actually going to the Plymouth game next week? I will be there with my family. Excited about it as its my first trip to SMS. All my recent trips back home have coincided with summer, something to do with my wife preferring the chance of semi-decent weather. But its Thanksgiving here next week, the kids are out of school and I convinced my wife that, with global warming, it will be like the south of France in England. Hope someone else will be there. Hoping for a good game of football. Maybe even a win...alright, maybe not that likely but you can always dream.

Now we are doomed, DP is here. I thought you were banned from match threads for bringing bad luck.

not 6-0 anyway

In case you forgot, you have your own thread http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5007

Aren't the fruitcakes for test match special? Bagels seem a better idea. Its still morning here.

Have we missed any penalties yet?

Have a great vacation then, Nick!

I understand Long Shot's sentiments but I don't agree with them. Someone earlier said that Wilde won't sell to Salz or Davies but if he is in as much need of money as has been suggested in recent weeks, why not sell to them? Whoever it is that LS alludes to, what are their plans or Crouch's plans if they do get control? Do they have the money to make any difference to the team?
-
Not much according to the Wall Street Journal, maybe another 10 cents or so is all that's expected in the next few months. HTH I guess our good friend, Saint George, has got over his loss last week.
-
On paper, it looks highly unlikely but this team surprises us every now and then - in both good and bad ways. Having failed to score at home in so many games, what chance against Wolves? Maybe more chance away at Reading? Wishful thinking.
-
Is there an etiquette guide available? Going to my first game in too many years in a couple of weeks with the kids. How many minutes in each quarter? Do they play the national anthem at the start and where is the flag so I can face that direction? How many time outs are they allowed?

Are we better off than when Crouch was here?
RoswellSaint replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
Lowe is hardly the first person running a football club to have a big ego. In fact, it is very hard to get in a position of running a football club, big company or be in political power without a sizeable ego. I am sure Barclays are used to dealing with big egos. -
When times are tough, everything needs to be managed more closely. Who knows what exactly is said in these meetings. Perhaps Lowe will tell JP that club A is interested in player X, "how badly do you need him? how is his attitude?", JP might tell Lowe to try to ship someone out. Of course that could be way off the mark. Many will then say it is none of Lowe's business.

Only frowned upon when people use crazy arguments like Saint George. There is legitimate concern that Obama is inexperienced but so was Bush. Hopefully Obama surrounds himself with decent, experienced people that will listen to different opinions. So far, he has.
-
That's why Americans think of Brits as emotionally constipated. Stiff upper lip, old chap.

The same Jesse Jackson who was caught on a live mic trashing Obama several months ago? He was crying because he was thinking "no chance of a job in his government"

I didn't read it as looking for our sympathy, just being honest. -
OK, I can handle that and I am sure OhioSaint can too.
