I think Arsenal will put their bid in when they get the money from Barcelona for Fabregas. Hopefully, this will be sooner rather than later so that we have the time to get a suitable replacement!

If the club is able to sensibly afford a few new quality players to boost our chances of reaching the Premiership, where is the problem? Why do some people on here become get so worked up about the possibility of improving the side. The current squad got us out of League One and apart from Gobern, has remained intact. It is not being disbanded. If we can afford to obtain a few of the more talented players available in the market, then why not pursue this option?

I agree - abuse flows from the usual suspects on here. Opinions range from the happy clappies, in whose eyes the Saints can do no wrong, all the way to the other end of the scale to the arch critics. This is fine but there is aboslutely no need for abuse, swearing or name-calling. Believe it or not, we are all on the same side!

Unless we are prepared to pay the required transfer fees and match the player's wage requirements we will never sign the quality players needed to reach the premiership. All we will be left with is the dross, old, injury prone has-beens and never-will be's. I thought the days of Saints scouring for the bargain basement buys were long gone. Still the same old Saints though isn't it? I expect we will still be trying to sign players the day before the season starts and then they will say 'we can still get loan players in' and so it will go on, same as it ever was.

We will probably get 1) a midfielder from Serie B that no-one has heard of. 2) An ancient centre half from somewhere Oop North.

We won't get anywhere near the Premiership without further significant investment in players. Seems to me that Leicester are signing all our targets. Why are we not competing with the likes of Leicester and Ipswich in the market place? Could it be that unless we sell Chamberlain, we simply dont have the cash to splash?

I think we will be difficult to beat at St Marys. We will start the season full of confidence and hopefully we can keep the momentum going. Away form is the key to achieving a playoff place or automatic promotion. This is where a few quality signings would help but the current squad is quite large at present and maybe there will be some departures. Perhaps a few surprises here?

Peter Shilton was world class - far better than Antti. Niemi is the second best keeper, a class act and better than Tim Flowers.

Why are some people on here so worried about us signing good players? Do you want Saints to stay in League One forever? There is absolutely no harm in having competition for places. In January, we signed two new cr*p players, what was the point of that?
