I didn't say Adkins was stupid!

Adkins keeps talking about signing new players but he did the same last year. I think he is too nice and will stick with the existing squad. We will probably get a goalkeeper and a defender from necessity. All this talk of signing 6/7/8 players doesn't look like happening at the moment. If it does happen nearer kick off, we will be like QPR last year, signing up anyone who is available and ending up with an unbalanced team of strangers.

Surely an academy 'keeper would have been better. Anyone would have been better.

I keep having flashbacks to the games at Blackpool (A), 'Boro (A) and Reading (H). Anyone else a little concerned about our defence? I understand the policy of trying to sign young hungry players etc but surely a couple of players with premiership experience would be useful, no?

I don't think anyone is panicking - our foreign imports have been a bit hit & miss anyway. Besides, we have about a million other left backs at the club.

Surely this is something that should have been discussed earlier in negotiations. Cortese can't be happy with this! Are protracted transfers the 'Southampton Way' of doing things?

Rooney and Young were both useless last night. They just seem to give up. What annoys me is that when we play Man Utd, they these same players will be busting a gut to beat us but they couldn't be bothered when playing for England. Rest of the team did the best they could. RL would at least have given it his all which is more than you can say for certain Man U players.

Saints don't normally buy players at this time of the season. Usually, it is a last minute panicky thing. I reckon this deal was done at the start of last season. We probably agreed to buy him and then allowed Burnley to retain him for one last season on order for us to clinch the deal. I think we can be pretty sure he is joining us.

I still can't believe how poor we were. The defeat was one thing but to lose in that manner was a real eye opener. Nobody played well and the tactics were all wrong. Still, Saints have done this before, especially away from home north of Watford. It was a great match for those who didn't play in it. Expect the return of Hammond, Harding, Puncheon, Richardson and (hopefully), SRL?

I would like Sharp to start with Lee to come off the bench as an impact sub. Puncheon on the right with De Ridder to replace him should he fail to impress. I would like to see us attack from the off rather than wait until the last twenty minutes. How about giving Shaw a chance if Fox is still unfit? This lad deserves a chance to see what he can do.
