  1. it was Hammond, and yes it was a fantastic pass. thought he had a great game yesterday, really controlled midfield at times.
  2. Believe we get around 2800 in our section - can you really see us filling that on a weeknight 240 miles north?
  3. Which one? Hope you didn't book into Sacha's "Hotel"
  4. Most of the "Alan Carr" and "Flinders" baiting singing was coming from the creche in the away end
  5. Back in the mid-90s I was on a works p1ss-up in the Midland Hotel (Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza) in Manchester - at the time, the poshest hotel in the city. We were in an upstairs function room and we could look down on the main hotel bar, where the entire Liverpool team (well, certainly all the "Spice Boys") were playing cards before playing Man City the next day. None of them seemed to be drinking, however David James was smoking a fat cigar - have seen a few keepers smoking - saw Peter Schmeichel in a Manchester hotel bar smoking the day after he got chipped by Davor Suker in Euro 96. Oh, and I copped that night, so all in all quite a worthwhile evening, although she turned out to be a bit of a space cadet (very tidy though).
  6. chill out here: http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com/
  7. They'll get even stranger looks when they turn up at Huddersfield as the games at Bournemouth.
  8. Likewise here in Stockport - yes it's rained yesterday and today, but it's not been torrential, just typical steady NW England rain. Nearest games to here would be Man U v Crawley, Crewe v Stevenage and Morecambe v Oxford. What's the betting all those games go ahead, which can only leave us with the conclusion that it's a rugby-affected pitch, not just about the rainfall.
  9. Looking at our fixtures and theirs, we won't be playing them till April: Date Rochdale schedule 15th March Notts County 29th March Charlton 12th April free 19th April free 3rd May free Glad it's not going to be March, or we'd be playing 8 games in the month.
  10. Very peed off right now, surely the Football League should have something to say about teams ground-sharing with Rugby League teams. It's more than a coincidence that the Rugby League season started last week, with Rochdale Hornets playing just last Sunday, then we get the postponement today. Why no advance warning yesterday on the Rochdale FC website that there would be a pitch inspection today? I know of people who set off last night from Southampton, even got a text at 6.30 this morning from one lad setting off from the Bath area. Would have been nice to have advance notice that this might happen. Possible dates for Rochdale v Southampton to be rearranged: 15th March 29th March 12th April 19th April 3rd May Sod's Law say I'll be working in London the week we play them. :x
  11. my first thought too.
  12. they showed the first of these (the overhead) last night on MOTD2 in a piece spinning off from Rooney's "wundergoal". Somehow i expect we'll see Rooney's repeated more times than Danny Wallace's, even though you could argue Danny's is better as he has much less time to react and get into position.
  13. Wasn't that the game where Le Tiss got booked without coming onto the pitch? He was warming up on the touchline, the linesman made a poor decision against Saints and Matty called him "a blind ****", got booked, and therefore didn't come onto the pitch in case he got another yellow.
  14. you were right, i must have misheard. Bit annoying that I had to sit in my front room to "watch" 5Live Extra on my telly, but actually it's a better coverage as they hardly interrupt the commentary at all. If you're the main game on 5Live you get about 50% coverage, with the rest of it being latest scores and going "around the grounds"
  15. We're the main commentary for the 3 pm matches on Five Live today.
  16. Lol at the blindfold KP. I LOLed at these too: bloke walks into a brothel and says: "I'm a bit kinky, how much for total humiliation?" The madam replies $60. "Wow, what do I get for that?" he says. She says: "A baggy green cap and an Australian Cricket XI shirt." ***** What do you call a world class Australian? Retired ***** What do you call an Australian with 100 by his name? A bowler. ***** Have you heard aussies can't open bottles? Why? They haven't got any openers...
  17. That's the significant point in all this - highest position since Admin/relegation from the CCC. However we are only 3 points off 10th, so let's not get carried away just yet.
  18. would prefer it to be Cillit Gang Bang:
  19. Perhaps doctor who or another "ref in the know" can answer this: If d'arso postponed it due to the linesmans area on one touchline not being safe, why didn't he simply have both linesmen run the line on the sunny side of the pitch? Or is there another FA directive that would prevent this simple, common sense approach?
  20. Gutted that I won't be able to go to this one - I'm now working in London all that week. Have just had a quick look on the GMPTE journey planner, and there are buses running, although not very frequently. Looks like you can catch Bus 181 and it takes about half an hour to get back to Piccadilly Gardens. Last bus is around 11 pm. Don't think I can post the full details here as the website is somewhat interactive, but you can find out for yourselves here: http://www.traveline-northwest.co.uk . I just put in Boundary Park as the start point, and Piccadilly Gardens as the finish (most Manchester city centre buses go to Piccadilly Gardens). Just remember to wrap up warm for this one folks. Joe Royle, the old Man City and Oldham manager, called Boundary Park "Ice Station Zebra" due to its exposed, windy location. So however cold it is when you get off the train at Piccadilly Station, it'll probably be another 5°C colder - in the middle of January, if I was going I'd be wearing three pairs of socks.

  22. Can't believe it's that long since we were deprived of the genius of John Lennon: http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Family-And-Fans-Gather-To-Mark-30th-Anniversary-Of-John-Lennons-Murder-By-Mark-Chapman/Article/201012115849504 I remember it being the only topic of conversation at school that day. Chapman was sent down for 30 years, but I can't see them letting him out, for his own safety.
  23. according to a mate who works for Co-op Bank, any cash deposits greater than £500 have to be investigated re money laundering rules etc. A taxi driver I was chatting to once told me about his mate (also a taxi driver) who was sick of paying interest on his mortgage when he had all his (undeclared) cash sat in his safe at home. The cabbie ignored the advice of all his mates and went into his building society and cleared the last £30k of his mortgage in cash. The Revenue knocked on his door three days later to quiz him about all that cash.
  24. Annoyingly, Huddersfield are 4th bottom of that table, so they broke form to beat us last week. The first 3 of our next 6 are against teams in the bottom 6 of that form table - Notts County (a), Daggers (h) & Carlisle (a). Then we get the Posh(h), Brighton(h) and Hartlepool(a) - should be looking for 12 points minimum from these, which should put us up into the playoffs by early December. Brighton at home is definitely the toughest in that lot, although Hartlepool are coming into some form since Mick Wadsworth took over there. If we average 2 points a game for the rest of the season we'll end up on around 84 points, which on average over the last few years, would put us 2nd. Wonder if Adkins will ask Cortese for extra funds in January for a midfield general, a nippy winger and a pacy striker, in order to push us towards the top 2, based on what happened to Pardew when he asked for extra funds to push us into the playoffs.
  25. On R5 Live last night in their long discussion on the Rooney/Man U/Alex Ferguson saga, one of the pundits said that Fergie reads every book going on management, not just football, but general man-management, such as "The Art of War", by Sun Tzu - a book read and quoted by many Chief Executives and Dragons Den types. So if it works for Fergie (whatever you think of the grizzly old to55er), then it would work for Nigel.
