  1. IMO Edozie, not Sugawara, was offside.
  2. http://www.fawanews.com/
  3. Duplicate post from Charley’s thread.
  4. Lazio apparently been told by us that Charley is theirs for merely €15million. What a comedown from over €40million! https://thelaziali.com/2024/08/09/southampton-name-their-price-for-ex-juventus-midfielder-wanted-at-lazio/ At that price, I think I’d rather keep him.
  5. Another Diallo; this time an alpha one: https://insidefutbol.com/2024/08/07/southampton-rival-french-clubs-in-pursuit-of-teenage-midfielder/655341/
  6. Sam Gallagher moves from Blackburn to Stoke; three-year deal. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cz7e4yyew4wo
  7. So did I! But I would not be any good this season. 🙂
  8. Here is another go at posting the statistical analysis of BBD, which I tried to put on the transfer window thread but could not get the chart on it; the link should give you the full text and the chart: https://eplindex.com/116060/report-southampton-targeting-a-move-for-former-la-liga-star-forward.html Not an out and out CF but looks like he could play on the left (or right) as part of a front two with AA on the right. And seems to have the ability to play in the middle up front on his own or in a front three. Hopefully the eplindex analysis complements the videos posted above.
  9. You are right but he was before my time - at least, before I began watching football. From an even earlier decade, how about Ted Drake? I think we have done this subject now; I hope we have a well-educated Wolf.
  10. Can a supporter of a club that had Ron Davis, Martin Chivers, George Kirby, James Beattie et al at centre forward, and more recently Pelle, really not know what a “number 9” is? 🤔💡
  11. One of the complications of our relationship with KWP is that, despite outward appearances of him being happy here, the commonly quoted salary we pay him is £20k per week whereas the likes of Matt Target and some other full-backs at major EPL clubs get £100k. That must grate and give KWP a reason for wanting to leave as soon as he can. Pricing him out of a realistic move is unlikely to please him.
  12. This analysis of BBD backs up the report of him before he went to Villarreal: he is not a typical goal-scoring CF but he excels on the ball and can certainly hit the back of the net. I personally doubt, though, that we would sign him AND a CF. BBD and AA would make an effective front two and BBD could possibly perform well enough as a lone target man. Do we know how well he did at VR and how he was used there? Statistical Analysis by EPL Index: Ben Brereton Díaz Unpacking Brereton Díaz’s Performance Data The comprehensive performance chart from Fbref for Ben Brereton Díaz over the last 365 days, aggregating 1593 minutes of play, offers intriguing insights into his abilities and areas of development. Central to this analysis is his performance relative to other forwards, with data encapsulated in a multifaceted radar chart that quantifies his attacking, possession, and defending metrics. Attacking and Possession Prowess Ben Brereton Díaz’s performance in attacking metrics demonstrates a mixed bag of outcomes. Notably, his non-penalty goals (npG) and expected assists (xA) lie in the middle range, indicating a solid, though not outstanding, contribution in terms of direct goal involvement. His 36th percentile ranking for non-penalty goals might raise questions, but this is balanced by his stronger involvement in creating shots, where he stands in the 54th percentile. This suggests that while not always the finisher, Díaz actively contributes to building offensive opportunities. In terms of possession, Brereton Díaz shines in maintaining and distributing the ball. His passes attempted and pass completion percentage sit impressively in the 79th and 86th percentiles, respectively. These stats underscore his reliability and fluidity in the play, making him a pivotal figure in maintaining team dynamics and offensive pushes. Defensive Contributions and Mobility On the defensive front, the chart points to a less involved role, as expected from a forward. However, his ability to contribute when necessary is noted in his clearances and blocks, although these stats are relatively lower, highlighting his primary focus on offensive duties. Brereton Díaz’s mobility is evidenced by his rankings in successful take-ons and progressive carries, placing him in the 78th and 76th percentiles respectively. This mobility is crucial, allowing him to manoeuvre through tight spaces and advance the ball effectively under pressure. Overall, Ben Brereton Díaz’s performance stats from Fbref present a profile of a forward who is both a facilitator and a potential finisher, capable of impacting games beyond mere goal scoring. His ability to blend passing accuracy with effective ball progression makes him a valuable asset in the attacking schema of any team. Our View – EPL Index Analysis The news of potentially signing Ben Brereton Díaz brings a surge of excitement. After witnessing Adam Armstrong’s rollercoaster performances in the Premier League, the prospect of pairing him with a player of Brereton Díaz’s calibre is thrilling. Brereton Díaz’s stint at Sheffield United, though in a relegated side, showed his knack for finding the net under pressure. His adaptability across the front line could also provide Southampton with multiple tactical options, making the team less predictable and more dynamic. Imagine the boost to the team’s morale and the signal it sends to our rivals. Bringing in a player with Premier League experience and proven versatility speaks volumes of their ambition to not just make up the numbers, but to leave a mark upon our return to top-flight football. Lamine Camara is just what we need to beef-up our midfield. €15-20m would be needed, though; can we afford him and BBD? If so, certainly no other CF incoming, IMO. https://eplindex.com/wp-content/uploads/FBCharts-Ben-Brereton.png
  13. I could name a club that has signed a few shite strikers. 😀
  14. You were right C. CHEerful ADAM reached for the apple, had a go at eve but missed and TORe INtO the ewe instead.
  15. Meghoma looked consistently better than Manning whenever he played last season but hardly played at all. No wonder he wants to leave to get regular games. Hurts to say it but manager at fault for this potential loss of a really promising prospect. It could so easily have been otherwise.
  16. I believe his contract lasts until the end of June 2026. (We are talking about Tall Paul, not Che Adams.)
  17. Sophie Harwood to Arsenal; another promising player gone: https://www.onlinegooner.com/articles/view/exclusive-arsenal-academy-s-new-arrival-sophie-harwood-on-her-move-to-the-gunners-from-southampton
  18. I have read this in a report on Welington: “Southampton, who already have him signed up and are now working on bringing that forward. Their current idea is to offer São Paulo a percentage of the player’s economic rights, something that is currently being rejected as the Brazilians would prefer upfront cash.“ What does “a percentage of the player’s economic rights “ mean? Thnx in advance.
  19. Less than a tenner then. We need to repeat those three sales more than two million times just to recover the fee for THB. 🤔
  20. Icarus was FLYiNg high in the sky but too close to the sun so that the wax in his wings melted and he fell DOWN to the sEa and Sank. Make what you will of that. CHEerful ADAM reacheS for the apple and is on the Eve of becoming a Saint once again. Or perhaps not. And make what you will of that, too.
  21. My second paragraph referenced four former members of this forum and was not a question for you to answer, Kristian; sorry to put you to the trouble of an explanation. (For those without long memories, Glasgow, Heisenberg, Alpine and Ottery.)
  22. Remi Allen the new manager: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c047pkeevd5o
  23. Thank you for your carefully considered reply, Kristian. I am sure you will be an asset for the forum Your English is so good and idiomatic that I wonder whether you have ever lived in Scotland, Baden-Wurttemberg or the Alps or even Ottery St Mary, Devon. 🤔 (That is not a serious point - it’s one for longer-serving members on here, not you.) I hope you have an enjoyable time supporting Saints this season and beyond. 😀 One suggestion that I hope will be helpful to you: perhaps you might like to avoid the CoT thread or, at least, treat it with a pinch of salt.
  24. That was how I saw it. The defender did not kick the attacker; in fact he did not seem to try to kick the ball. He surely tried to block the shot and Kane kicked him in the follow-through. Another fuck-up by VAR and the ref wrongly thought he should award a penalty.
  25. No! Really. 🫣 🤫
