Jaidi was also lined up and waiting on a work permit, while Trotman and Hammond came in soon after Rickie.

Billy Sharp - Joins Notts Forest on Season Long Loan
jam replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Forest have just loaned out McGoaldrought... -
They've coached to parry rather than catch for a few years now. Something to do with avoiding wrist injuries IIRC...

Spot the former Saints player in that video...

Have to agree with you there, although it must be pretty frustrating if you put a story together and make sure it's solid enough to print only to be faced with a load of randoms either dismissing it as an agenda or simply copying rumours from the Internet. If I was a journo I think I'd be banging my head against a wall when faced with the amount of people who seem to think that publishing something in a newspaper equates in anyway to some nobody posting on Twitter or any other internet site.
-
Aahhh... I think I get it. Theyin, when you wrote "as for the journo doing the wah wahs" - you were criticising the people on this thread who were moaning about the Mirror piece. Is that right? When you read it is comes across more like you're having a pop at the journo themselves...
-
I think the only way to deal with this is to have a tournament to decide the people's mod.

I'm slow... Gonna log off now...

Maybe read the number of blog posts by mistake..?

The kits from 80-85 were red and white striped, just less of them. They also had a good balance between red and white. The two from 85-89 were typical late eighties catastrophe. And are you really suggesting that in the late eighties people would have traditionally described Saint's traditional kit as 'red with black and white shoulders' or 'red and white Denmark style quarters'??
-
Is it inconceivable that RL might be played in the deeper role..?
-
Including the JPT final, IIRC.

Do you mean the fella signed by Dave Jones from Cardiff in his first season? I think he was signed as a striker / attacking right midfielder rather than a left back. I don't think he really did much. Believe he went to Brum from us, although I might have them and Cardiff the wrong way round...

Do you mean this thread: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?37089-Did-anyone-else-notice? Didn't exactly go well for the OP, did it? I swear there are some who post on here and just see a name, think 'ex-skate' or 'unpopular poster' or whatever and just type in whatever they think will go down well with other people (who don't actually bother to think about what they're reading or writing). The Claridge thing is a classic case - he'd been so pro Saints in the last year or so, you would be forgiven for thinking that he was on our PR payroll, but people still seemed to be convinced that he was physically incapable of saying anything good about us. It's actually a bit embarrassing. (btw, Hopkins, that last bit isn't particularly aimed at you; just a response to skimming through this and the linked thread...)

If memory serves the fee was in the region of £250-300k plus Matt Paterson - I think we benefited from the player's contract being nearly up. I'd like to see him get a decent chance in the Championship, though. It seems harsh for people to write him off as a League 1 player, as he didn't really get a look in for us last season.
-
Well if they followed the Southampton Way they'd certainly be willing to pay for Barnard and his wages, plus a few more besides. £500k for Barnard would be a great deal, I still think he was one of our best buys since the takeover (in terms of quality compared to what we paid for him).

Unfortunately you're confusing sensation and sensationalism, which are two different things. I'm prepared to forgive that but please refrain from being so dismissive of the Great Tit - it's really not on.

Saw it yesterday in the West Quay shop. I'm really not a fan of either (in fact, I'm quite annoyed about the red home kit), so could be biased but I think the white kit isn't a patch on the sash kit. I think the red pinstripes deaden the white somewhat, to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if it was a less white material than the sash kit used. The big solid areas of white on the sash kit made our players stand out a mile and frankly changed the way I think about shirts.

As single moments, Benali scoring and Tiss getting the winner in the final Dell game were amazing but I think the JPT final was the moment when everything was just brilliant. After all the crap and slow decline of the previous few years we had a team that I respected who were imposing themselves on competitions, a new owner who seemed like my perfect choice and happy fans who were respecting and enjoying the competition. I'd even started to take to Pardew!

Anyone disagree with the assessment inThe Echo - including the leavers?
jam replied to Professor's topic in The Saints
Wow... Okay, so the question was about whether last seasons results against the better sides were an indication of our players ability to cope with the EPL. Firstly you say we finished top two so this proves we can control games against half the teams in the prem. But when someone points that our results against the better teams in a lower division suggests otherwise you say it's irrelevant as we're getting new players anyway. Maybe instead of being all stroppy and aggressive you should have a sit down and decide what you actually do think? I mean... 'engage your brain and think positive'. Seriously? -

So you don't think it's relevant to look at our form against the better sides last season to get an indication of whether our players will cope with a higher level? Out of the teams the The Kraken listed, can you come up with five that we beat last season who are more likely to be considered EPL standard? -
That's dell sized thinking. There must be loads of people in the New Forest and the English Channel who are desperate to see top flight rugby...

As you yourself state that Lowe changed his mind at £1.5m, £2m and £2.5m, why are you so certain that Lowe wasn't going to do the same at £3.5m? If anything your story suggests that Lowe wasn't that up for selling BT at all... And BT wasn't that well regarded at the time - he'd had a good run under Jones but Hoddle clearly didn't rate him. Are you suggesting that Lowe should have been telling Hoddle who he should have been picking?
