How many of these numerous Italian football fans and Italians themselves are going to be picking the team on Saturday? Everything that's come out of the club, including Pardew's comments have indicated that Waigo is seen as a striker so it's perfectly reasonable to assume that that's where he's going to play.

I think in the Poortvliet interview that was translated on here a while back, Jan himself claimed to not know why Hockaday and Webster had gone. JP made it seem like a case of 'suddenly they weren't at the club anymore'.

Judging by everything coming out of the club at the moment, Papa has been signed to play striker not winger. So for Lallana it's somewhere in the midfield.

My biggest concern is that we have the players to pass teams off the park. We don't have the forwards to play hoof ball. It seems that Pardew is happy for us to try and to boot it up to Lambert or Patterson even though the opposition's defenders have won just about everything. And it's annoying.

Seconded. If this approach is as true as reported then I'd like to know where the decision originated. I'm biased but I have to assume Lowe or whomever was advising him as I can see how the line 'we don't need to pay for scouting as we can just train our youngsters and save a load of money' would have fitted the strategy. One of the things I remember players saying about Hoddle was that each week of training was geared towards how to beat the opposition and he didn't seem to do to badly for us on a budget. To take the 'we will just outplay them' approach is ridiculously complacent what has been proven to be flawed. This and the various translations attributed to Poortvliet recently are probably the most depressing things yet for me as regards the whole sorry season. /rant.

I think Gillet is not starting because if his height, AP has said he feels we're lacking in that department. That said I thought Wotton was poor last night and seemed to keep passing the ball behind our players, breaking our momentum. I'd have Perry instead of Olli, as one dodgy central defender is enough for me and I'd continue to start with Patterson as he puts himself about and works defenders. Rasiak can come on later against a hopefully weary defence.
