Or we play boring 4-4-2 and drop either Hammond or Morgan for Wotton (unless we have a better defensive midfielder), which reduces our ability to control games. The 4-5-1 (or whatever system works for us because the players that we have, including the players Pardew has signed, fit into it. And it gives us the option to really turn the screw on teams in the second half.

I think the point that Weston was making was that people moan about that particular poster yet there are still posts like "I bet xxx will soon be along posting rubbish". Baiting or not, these posts do serve as an invite and do encourage posters who appear to enjoy provoking a response.

This echos my feelings. I'm glad that Dodd is back at the club but this is one of the most important jobs at the club and he has no experience. I feel that a Prost type of figure would have been a better option.

I thought Marsden was a really good player for us. I rated Oakley, Delap, Idiakez, Magilton and Safri; they all did a good job for us (when fit). Wotton is an honest but poor footballer and breaks up as much of our moves as he does our opponents. He demands the ball from less experienced players then wastes it. Please don't reel out the patronising 'I don't like him because he plays the ball backwards' line.

An interesting article about Shankly here that specifically mentions "his clever coaches, the boot-room staff – Paisley, Joe Fagan and Reuben Bennett". It interesting for us because Pardew now has the opportunity to establish himself in Southampton history as much as Shankly did with Liverpool (personally I don't think he's good enough but here's hoping) and to a maybe lesser extent Lawrie did with us.
