League for me, until we have no chance of getting promotion. In fact even if promotion becomes impossible I want us to be winning every league game we play so that next season the players know that they can beat anyone in the division and any team that plays us know they are going to be in for a hell of a game. I see the JPT as a bit of a bonus and a chance for a nice day out if we get to the final. We're in the competition on merit and should show it respect. Besides, once we're back in the Prem those of us who were there can then feel smug and better than all the johnny-come-latelys
-
And, if we can get to a later round through avoiding any Championship or Prem clubs, we will have a higher likelyhood of drawing a decent one. Let's face it, who's goona get excited about a trip to Wigan or Wolves (both of which we'd probably lose anyway).
-
You'll struggle with that one.
-
It's great, isn't it? And we've had a proper left back for the whole of the season too.
-
I've highlighted the bit below where John B explains his point: As in, IF Bart takes his chance and is "outstanding" then it is a blessing in disguise for Saints.
-
In Pardew's post match interview it sounded like they were being a little bit artful...
-
You say that but  http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/club_stats/default.stm

You deleted the remainder of the sentance in which John B explained himself...

I think that KD playing it to LB/RB less often is more down to tactics than his own decision making. Shame because I like seeing the ball played out of defence, I think it suits us.
-
When you say Saga has burned his bridges here it suggests that Saga has done something to hasten his departure (aside from not perform on the pitch) but in the Echo Pardew said that the player's attitude had been fine, he jsut wasn't going to figure here. Has something gone on behind the scenes?

The Official "I'm going to Hartlepool on a Tuesday" thread

FlyBE are doing flights to Newcastle from Southampton. It isn't cheap (about £160 return each) but you'll get there and have time to sort onward travel. You'll have to sort out somewhere to stay up there too. -
How come you always suggest that nobody on here believes the rumours about Burley when we all remember the threads and posts about him when he was on here?
-
Lambert's fine, it's the rest of the team that's the problem.
-
I think the fact that he was understood to have advised Theo to leave wouldn't have helped his case...
-
If Trotman is on his way in Jan, then hopefully Pardew will have this in mind when he looks for a replacement.
-
Chance of a signing before the loan window closes?
jam replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
It looks like Trotman goes back in January so he needs to be replaced. -
By that logic we should have given up on the big hoof to Lambert long ago! (besides, James was probably caught by surprise with the short ball!)
-
Not a great article... We should have won but Norwich deserved the draw. Oh and the other players let Connolly down. This hoofing it from the back has been bugging me all season. Lambert doesn't seem like the type of player who thrives on it and we have good passers all over the pitch. Davis has the ability to pass the ball out quickly; why don't we use it?

I'm not disagreeing as I've seen little of Mills through his career but in the times I have this season he has been frighteningly poor.
-
I'd assume Mills gets a place on the bench ahead of him as Mills is a more versatile sub.
-
The switch was to put james into center midfiield and allow Hammond, Adam and Morgan to alternate in the wide midfield positions. It's strengthened both defence and midfield and up until their goal (which I missed!) we're much better for it. (I was slightly surprised by the switch too)
-
I thought Papa looked a more solid all round player. I think at the moment Antonio is impact sub material, when all he has to do is worry about giving their right back hell.
-
I'd go with that but Derry posted on the Pardew Spot On thread that Wotton has a knock. If he's not fit then James at DM?
-
So assuming Wotton can't play... we have the team that started last week (except possibly Thomas for Trotman) or we play the lone striker system and put James in front of the defence? Big day for James if it's the latter.
