  1. Why is it funny? Surely it isn't two much for people to respond to individual actions and statements as they come along?
  2. He seems to have dropped off somewhat (at least at home), almost since he was made captain.
  3. In that extremely unlikely event then probably a centre back with some legs.
  4. We'd be even more royally f**cked if Lambert got injured.
  5. I agree with you about his pace and it's great having a player like him to call on. But I'm convinced that he is best used as a sub right now. Giving him a simple brief to have a go at the defence and try to make something happen takes advantage of his pace, directness an enthusiasm while maybe hiding some of his weaknesses. I see him as a bit of a hand grenade that can be thrown into the mix to shake things up a bit.
  6. Papa is smarter, more skillful and better defensively than Antonio. I'm surprised that someone could say that Antonio helps out more defensively than Papa, to be honest.
  7. If that's the case then he wouldn't be worth buying until the summer, unless he reaches a point at Leeds where they'd take less to get him off the books. However 'needs 5 chances before he even gets close to scoring one' criticism could also used to describe Andrew Cole and he did okay in the higher levels of the game!
  8. Nope, Leeds would want a premium to sell to another League One club. Plus Beckford almost certainly has had enough of this division and has the prospect of an out-of-contract payday at the end of the season.
  9. I didn't say it was only about the money, you seemed imply that Chelsea's success was all down to the Special One. Even under Grant they were a kick away from winning the Champions League. United have had aguably the best manager around, sure. They have also had consistency / stability on the playing side of the club for years and, as per NickG's post above, they have chucked huge amounts of cash at the team. The teams that have gone chucked loads of money at success and then fallen on their arses were almost certainly lacking in the stability / good management that United have.
  10. I have so little time for Wigan. They seem to be there purely on the basis of having one very wealthy fan and still can't attract a sizable fanbase.
  11. That has lights around it.
  12. Chelsea's success wasn't delivered by the 'Special One', it was Abramovich. His spending started while Ranieri was still there and I think Terry and Cudicini were the only first team regulars that were at the club before the Russian took over. TDD, if I remember correctly QPR spent about 10 million under either Dowie or Di Canio in a single January window.
  13. A new centre back is not going to unsettle the side - it looks like Trotman is off anyway. Same for a new right back - we can't rely on Murty and James is better elsewhere. Up front we are very dependent on Lambert so a bit of cover there would be wise. And if we sort out those three positions then winning 2 out of every 3 games for the rest of the season is absolutely possible.
  14. Is it me or is that article absolutely riddled with mistakes?
  15. I'll have to trust you (and others) on that. I don't get to many away games
  16. We're not playing well either. Fortunately we keep winning anyway.
  17. Now THAT was the highlight of the night. That kid was toying with the steward.
  18. I think we are a long way off websites replacing printed papers. It's an interesting situation. I believe we currently have an unsustainable situation where newspaper websites are running off the back of printed circulation sales / advertising which is disincentivising people from paying for printed content. We in this country at least are in the mindset of considering Internet content as free, spoiled I assume by habit and the excellent BBC online offering (which of course is not free to license payers). In addition web advertising is cheap compared to print advertising. Circulation is dropping but there is currently no precedent for a successful web model either subscription or ad based. Maybe that example you provided will work. Maybe the website will just become very quiet. End of ramble.
  19. Certainly more winnable on paper and a more useful team to take points from.
  20. Me too, but I don't think that the Leeds away game is going to be a crucial game for us.
  21. The spill frm the goallie didn't help him, it was too close an high to steer it home.

    Bart

Neither does the fixture list. Wycombe were poor and Tranmere shockingly so. Tuesday and Saturday and big games and especially do for Bart. He could well have a lot to do.
  23. I don't agree that the Echo would have mixed feelings on our renaissance; I believe that if we continue to improve and get more of a reputation for being a winning team then people will come back, the pride will return (for those who lost it ) and interest will rise. And the Echo is the number one source for printed information. Regarding the one party 'who can unequivocally be said to be working for the good of the team and club 100% of the time' being NC. This is definitely the case but surely that is the way it should be?
  24. Yeah, but a large number on here would agree that Rupert Lowe eats babies and boxing day is always on the 26th December. the Echo probably isn't blameless but they'd have looked a right bunch of plank if they'd published nothing about the plans when the story had clearly broken. However if a deal had been done with the club for extra information, then I would have thought that the Echo would have been better served by printing something brief about the plans that served to trail "tomorrow's" story that would have all the information.
