Nice bit of picking and choosing what to believe there.

Sorry, I was following up on CB Fry's reply to Saint Clarke's statement about the scraps nobody else wanted but probably being a little obscure - Jack Cork was the fella.

Wish I could remember that loanee midfielder we got in from Chelsea. I expect he sank without trace.

'Hardly a stripe in sight' during the eighties? We played in stripes for six years... Y'know - one colour, different colour, different colour, etc....

or one of these fellas... http://www.clublinefootball.com/adidas_campeon_13_short_sleeve_football_shirt_red_white http://www.clublinefootball.com/adidas_stricon_red_white Maybe buying and wearing those to games would register disapproval in a polite and elegant manner.

I think it's just one of those ****ty misused clichés that have infested our society. He's basically saying that there are some games the team should expect to be able to win as opposed to last season's first five games where any point was a bonus. Mind you, I'm pretty sure there are managers who go to games hoping for a draw as a bonus with more of an eye on the next "winnable" fixture. Lets face it, if things were tighter last season would we have rather our team busted a gut chasing points at Manc United if the next game was at home to Wigan, or would we rather the team concentrated on getting the points from our relegation rivals?

Saints buck trend as English U-21s playing time falls to new low

I'm particularly disgusted with Swansea. One of the rumoured reasons for Mancini's sacking was that he didn't do enough with their youth players... -
BBC R4 "The last word" - on the life of Ron Davies this Friday
jam replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I'd assume you're going to be edited down to about 5 minutes - last week they featured six people. Here's the link to last week's programme in case it's of interest: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01snyk1 Thanks for the heads up about it. I know some old friends of Ron and they'll certainly be interested in hearing it, as will I. -

I think for me, the main problem isn't as much the lack of stripes but the that that Saints play in red and white shirts. This year's kit was red with a hint of white in the trim and the pinstripes. It was about as red and white as Man Utd or Liverpool's traditional colours. I wouldn't have liked it but I'd have had more sympathy if we'd come out with something similar to Arsenal's red shirt, white sleeve set up than this year's Liverpool Crown Paints tribute.

Shouldn't someone who works weekends and over Christmas have the flexibility to take their kids for out couple of extra days before half term?

I suggested this on one of the lawro threads from a few weeks back. No takers sadly... Maybe this would be an interesting addition to a revamped predictions league?

I know I shouldn't feed a troll but here goes... The quote has already been posted on this thread but here's an article from a month ago: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2314917/Mauricio-Pochettino-says-Southampton-finish-four.html "'In the next two years I want to be back in the Champions League with Southampton and I believe it’s not unreal. 'We are a well organised side, with great belief in our abilities and it’s not an accident that we have beaten Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City recently.' When quizzed on whether it will take time to get to that level, Pochettino said: 'Why in a couple of years? It might be next year. I think in football if you have to be something, you have to be optimistic - why not dream of big achievements, big goals? 'We are an ambitious club and we have a clear way of how we want to proceed and the type of football we want to be playing, where there are means of getting that done. 'Why not put in the effort, the imagination to make that happen and dream together to reach for the stars, why not?'"

In fairness SAF only had that long because he kept on winning. Similar with Wenger at Arsenal - he won loads when he first started so he's earned a bit of grace (which I admit he wouldn't get at City, Chelsea or possibly even Tottenham). I'd be absolutely astounded if Moyes is given five years* before he wins his first trophy. (*think it was 5 years before SAF won anything..?)

Breaking news sky sports - Pochettino will leave if NC quits

Why present it as if these are the only two possible options? -
If he had new owners up his sleeve who were ready and able to buy the club then he'd have no need to leak the story.

Beattie to be announced Accrington manager in morning

Did he listen to the supporters when they were chanting Adkins' name? Seems like a bit of a double standard.
-
I'd think the people in charge of Swansea and Norwich would disagree with your assessment. In a week's time Brighton fans might do as well.
-
They'd most likely have to sign off on his salary.

Beattie had a disallowed goal (offside) from almost the halfway line at the Dell. Think it might have been against Sunderland...
