If Essex are desperate for a win they may declare setting a gettable target so Hants go after it, hopefully (from Essex pov) getting out in the process. So a win is not impossible for Hants.

The youngsters will want to do well to make sure of their place in the team.

Here is the judgement: https://resources.ecb.co.uk/ecb/document/2023/09/09/883188b5-4841-4043-bdae-3d523ec30fb7/ECB-Hampshire-Hearing-Summary-Decision.dotx By my calculations about half of the pitches would be below average.

0-0 at half time Vs Sunderland.

The Cricketer reports Dawson was going to be in the World Cup squad until Stokes made himself available. In other news Hants docked 3 points and fined for a below standard pitch Vs Essex. If you're going to prepare a dodgy wicket at least win the game!

What is important is not the general weather but the weather on Test days. Someone has counted up the number of days washed out in Tests up to 2004. https://community.netweather.tv/topic/16950-number-of-days-washed-out-for-test-matches-in-engl/ Old Trafford: 29 days washed out. Headingley: 12 days washed out. Pretty conclusive though someone might like to do further research to see if the same trend continued after 2004.
