please be aware of what country we live in when you talk about 'area' being any form of factor in choosing a team to play for. there is no point on this isle that is more than 75 miles from the coast, the distance between southampton and the midlands is somewhere between 2-3 hours depending on how you drive and inbetween are some very nice parts of the country to live(cotswalds for instance). what any of my ramblings may mean, each person can decide for themselves

I wasnt overly pleased with Hughes coming in a t the start but not enough to make a big deal about it. Hes clearly done a job on the squad, they look in much better shape and more of a 'team' and is probably the main reason we are potentially staying up. However i do have some concerns with some of his tactics and selections, bar maybe 1 obvious exception :-), his substitutions have been questionable and even poorly timed but it is fair to say he has earned his substantial bonus and a longer term contract. I would however add an observation, how often do clubs like ours make these short term/caretaker appointments because they are well deserved only for them to only last 6 months or so into the next season. There is a difference between a short term injection of enthusiasm and new ideas and long term planning and goals.

so we dont get to blame the referee for allowing a free kick to be taken 10 yards ahead of the foul yet again! meaning they were able to kick the ball upfield from a position where they were both running staight onto the ball to kick it instead of having to get a player behind the ball allowing our players to get better in shape let alone the player who comited the foul ( which i state in the losest way posible) being now behind the ball and totally out of the game! go away please, we may have caused this situation ourselves but anybody who wants to claim the referees havent played a major role needs there head seeing to

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11096/11271666/which-premier-league-teams-have-the-toughest-fixtures-in-the-run-in we do not have even close to having the toughest run in, we go down we have nobody to blame but ourselves

When would you have pulled the trigger on Pellegrino?
kelkel31 replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
the moment he said in the press that nobody in the premier league plays with 2 up front and that he would not be using it for the forseable future and would continue with the same dross that had got Puel the sack at the end of the season was when i started to question him, this was probably october. -
lets ignore the fact that you clearly have no concept of the conversation and deal plainly with your coments the idea of having many irons in the fire is that when push comes to shove you have one to pull out at the end! dont listen too hard or you may hear the fat lady singing

so let me get this straight, even though plan A failed HALFWAY through the window and we moved on to plan B, we have now aparently FAILED with a similar type of player in plan B (probably meaning we have identified a failing in our squad and feel its big enough to need a rather expensive player to fill it) you think people are in the WRONG to think 'les is an incompotent bellend' man talk about making yourself look an idiot

Was at Eastleigh on the weekend where they were playing Hartlepool in a league game after opening the next stage of there ground developement. They did a collection to help them out. I think they were in the southern league when we played hartlepool in the league! So i would say never welcome relegation, you never know where it will end up

speeding fines are now relative to the amount you are over the speed limit and THE AMOUNT YOU EARN

With the way football is going it maybe that you provided me with the last moment of pure pride and joy in my 30 years of supporting saints when you scored that goal against scotland (Only maybe beaten by Le Tiss and the final goal at The Dell). I think i can say for all here, WE ARE PROUD TO CALL YOU A SAINTS LEGEND and proud that we seem to mean the same to you too. Good luck to you and your family and lets all hope that all concerned can find a place for you to contribute once again to the story of Southampton Football Club!

Everyones opinion is valid of course On a side bar how is Claude Puel and Frank de Boer performing in the EPL lately?

well that sets alarm bells ringing for me, shows a disturbing lack of flexibility in his thought processes. for me you dont have one formation in a game you have at the very least an defensive structure and an attacking structure and the key moments in the game are generally how you transition from one aspect of the game to another. to simply say in most games in the EPL 2 strikers leaves you vulnerable losing control of the game is short sighted and a failure to adequately prepare a team for the game ahead. GK CB CB CB WB DM DM WB AM ST ST you teach that formation correctly on the training field, make sure they are fit enough to do there roles for 100 mins then this formation provides a much greater and more fluid approach to the game then having a lone striker and hoping people will make it into the box to assist. this relies on 2 modern day wing backs capable of getting up and down the field when necessary, a combination of quick, dominating and tactically aware center backs, 2 all action, high intensity defensive midfielders, a cleaver #10 willing to sit back when needed and 1 highly mobile forward that is capably of defending without always giving away fouls in front of our box. Yes each game is different, players available is different but he, in that article largely dismissed a pretty obvious solution to our recent goal scoring woes and i for one have not been too impressed with what we have seen on the pitch under him so far and have seen very little change to the reasons that Puel was sacked just a few short months ago.

im going to leave this here and say nothing bar OMG

I agree with you i like the club trying to be inventive with these types of things and if it were being done 6-8 bloody weeks ago everyone would be happy.

Cant argue with you points as to premeditation and favouritism but they do play to the notion the either the FA or football as a whole is a well reasoned well run organisation. With the government getting involved with how the governing football bodies in this country are structured and run (something i believe is prohibited by FIFA rules ) we can safely say they are neither well reasoned or well run. Also it is a well know fact that the simple act of admitting you were wrong and saying sorry (no, there is no evidence in which he alludes that Mings ran into his elbow ) saves you from the further 2 games punishment given out to Mings.

A almost very good wishlist you should be applauded but i just cant support Saturday 3pm kick offs, THATS JUST PURE MADNESS

Just for clarity can you take a minute to list the top 6 players in the Leicester TEAM of last year and once you done with that just remind us where they finished!

The only way that he could have given a red card was if he denied a clear goal scoring opportunity, which when you take into account he went on to have a completely unimpeded shot at goal, he wasn't. I do not understand how anyone could suggest otherwise and therefore say that the referee didn't get every single decision wrong in that passage of play because he did. As for the clubs choice of not appealing the red card i am in full support of this as it takes the chance of Puel putting Redmond in the team for the next 3 matches out of his hands :-)

Congrats benjii on being the first and only person so far to understand our recent upturn in form is based on the lack of diamonds and 4-3-3 formation
-
I cant comment about last nights game as i didnt see it but if we take the other 2 games as a reference i think the reason we have been more successful with the diamond formation is that it looks suspiciously like a 4 - 3 -3 :-)

If we play to Austins strengths as said before he can be very good for us but it was plain to see that for the vast majority of the game our style of play was nowhere near to his strengths and he looked completely out of place. He did better than expected in getting to some of the wider balls but would always pull up and lay the ball off as if he didnt want to put the ball into the middle for somebody else as it may take away his chance of being there to get his hat-trick. I thought this hindered us 3 or 4 times last night and as been said he looked well out of puff long before half time. Fair play to him thou when we did have sustained pressure around the last 3rd he put it in the back of the net 2 out of 2 crosses which bodes well.

JWP doesn't seem to be getting a mentioned a lot here, if i recall, without instructions from the new manager, JWP was confirmed as number 1 dead ball taker last season(including penalties) and tadic was named number 2 and JWP was on the pitch. I haven't seen anyone directly say who was designated taker so i'm taking from Virgil moving Tadic away from the pen it was either a lack of organisation from the management in respect to penalty takers or a honest rookie mistake as captain by Virgil just trying to calm the situation

maybe not but it seems to be an admission that after the match there reports can be influenced, whats to say there not influenced before they take to the field as well. I know ive sat in the stands many times wondering what the hell the ref is doing
