Osvaldo for Italy, Roma and Pochettino's Espanyol - Tactics
CityRanger replied to The9's topic in The Saints
An interesting article along the lines of this thread: http://squawka.com/news/2013/08/22/lambert-osvaldo-have-the-complimentary-skills-to-form-a-lethal-partnership/2013082218410 -
Bad memories of QPR and Wigan games last season. Our fans thought we just had to turn up to win and we blew it both times! Sunderland looked decent going forward on MOD Saturday, I won't be taking anything for granted 'til that final whistle blows!

Osvaldo for Italy, Roma and Pochettino's Espanyol - Tactics

Rotation could be on the cards with the strength in depth this squad is developing. I noticed Mourinho at Chelsea, playing a lone striker in each of there first two games, started tonight with Ba after starting Torres on Sunday. Torres and Ba both came off with roughly 20 mins to go giving Lukaku a run in each game. Ultimately the three strikers have only played between 45 and 75 mins football so far. This will keep them fresh and also create healthy competition. With our high intensity tactics could it be rotation for Saints this year? -
Don't blame them to be fair: I can't get in the team. Oh great here's a new record signing who is best mates with the manager. That'll help me!

Looked to be all the lads that did'nt start Saturday were in for an afternoon session. They weren't the happiest bunch!

What an exciting signing! Very interested to see our starting line up on Saturday for Sunderland game. Here's all his goals from last 3 seasons: Espanyol 2010/2011: Roma 2011/2012: Roma 2012/2013: Interesting developments in the haircut department can also be seen in these clips

Yeah! Shades of Ian Branfoot in the Newcastle game when Matty came on and scored those two magnificent goals. "What have I done?:mcinnes:"!

Couldn't Ricky drop in the hole? He dropped deep quite a bit last season.

"Osvaldo-Southampton, can reopen. There have been contacts in the past few hours, the striker of Roma currency with greater availability English solution which at first had discarded. And this may be the white smoke. There was a survey of Tottenham, but the Southampton pushes. These days there has been much talk ofInter: it's true, Mahmoodlikes, but there are no margins. Both for the high card, but also and mainly because Rome keeps the line ever, disposal not in Italy. And this time Southampton hopes to succeed. " Great line!

Possibly a larger squad with 2 quality players for each position allowing squad rotation? Keep players fresh and all that

Good question. Maybe this is where the 10 mil figure is coming from?

Peter Reid or Alan Curbishley have to be favourites for me. -
Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have made approaches for Luke Shaw, the Southampton left back, in the hope of exploiting the managerial uncertainty at the South Coast club. Mauricio Pochettino, the Southampton manager, gave his support yesterday to Nicola Cortese, his executive chairman, who has threatened to leave unless he receives the backing of the trust that owns the club. “I would not understand staying in this role if Nicola was not here, he has been the one that has placed his trust in me,” said Pochettino, who was appointed in January when Nigel Adkins was dismissed. The situation at Southampton has led Arsenal to increase their interest in Morgan Schneiderlin, but it is the future of Shaw that is of concern. Tottenham, who also had talks last week with David Villa, the Barcelona forward, are looking for a replacement for Benoît Assou-Ekotto, whose form has dipped this season and is likely to be sold in the summer. Shaw, 17, is regarded as the best young left back in the country after coming through the Southampton academy and making his debut this season. He has made 21 league starts in this campaign and has been capped by England at junior level and has been called up to the under-21 squad that will play at the European Championship finals in Israel next month. Chelsea have also expressed an interest in Shaw after doubts about Ryan Bertrand being a suitable successor to Ashley Cole, who recently signed a one-year contract to remain at Stamford Bridge. Shaw is a fan of Chelsea, making them a more likely destination. Arsenal are also hoping to take advantage of the problems at Southampton with a move for Schneiderlin, the holding midfielder who has been capped by France at under-21 level. The 23-year-old joined Southampton from Strasbourg in June 2008 for £1 million.

Enough to compete on an even footing. As we are debt free which not all clubs can claim is this not enough? It then comes down to coaching, current squad strength and youngsters coming through on how well we do. I think we're in a good position on those points. I'm just questioning the idea that the Liebherrs have to get out now or we become a bottomless money pit. Aren't we ready to be self financing and is will not the new ffp rules apply anyway?
-
Do we still need investment from the family? There's a lot of Sky money next year, but is this not enough?
-
Fox, Hoovield, Yosh - liabilities the three of them. Have been all year to be fair. Hopefully get two strong quick top class center backs in if we stay up. Thats where the money has to go, and where it should have gone already.

Thats what managing a football club is about mate. Other teams seem to do it.

That was very interesting. Thankyou. I was born in 73 and remember the concrete bomb shelters that were about still in the 70's. We had one in our back garden in Taunton Drive, Bitterne. Most have probably been destroyed now but I think they have one at Manor Farm.

So we won't hear anything about any points deduction until the take over deal is actually signed off?

Thanks, that was an awesome read. -
How we defend set-pieces is going to decide the game I think. The inevitable tussle between Boruc and Nolan (who loves to block the goalkeeper at set-pieces) should be interesting to watch.

He survived that little cameo. But be warned, they're away to Chile on Tuesday...
