I dont think a decision will be made by the FL today. IF we manage to blag not getting a points deduction the FL will close this loophole and we will get bad mouthed by all the other clubs that have been hit by deductions when they've gone into admin. "It's huge s*** sandwich and we've all got to take a bite."

Sorry, I didn't necessarily mean recommend to him, what I meant was recommend a book in the Desert Island Discs kind of way; a book that has really made an impact on you that you think someone else would really enjoy and benefit from reading. Not dissing Stephen King, I've read tons of his stuff and I've really got a lot of time for some of his stories.

Spot on Prof....apart from it being a good thing to be wound up, but I understand your sentiment. United we stand, divided we fall.

Watched Spirited Away with the kids today. Studio Ghibli can never do any wrong imo and I would say that this one is the best, with Howl's Moving Castle a very close second both being written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Must get Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea now....

My eldest nipper has never been a bookworm; suffice to say I don't think he has ever read a book cover to cover for the sheer escapism of it, just for his GCSEs. We were talking the other day and I said to him that if he only ever read one book in his life it should be Orwell's 1984, my reasons to him being that its basic tenets were timeless and many of its dystopian themes could resonate quite strongly now. I know many of you will disagree with my choice, so what book would you recommend and why?

Walking around the back of the Itchen after the game it was all handbags; a hundred or so Yoof yelling 'You'll never make the station' to a bunch of Charlton that were corralled by a ring of police. Walking through the car park towards the bridge we had a good chat to a bunch of Charlton lads; just mutually acknowledging the plight of each others team and wishes of good luck etc.

Reading The Crossroads by Niccolo Ammaniti at the moment. I loved the film I'm Not Scared, based on his book of the same title, but never read the book, so bought The Crossroads on the strength of that.

This morning, I are mostly listening to The Phantom Band; Checkmate Savage. And this afternoon I will be mostly listening to the roar of the Twelfth Man and bursting my lungs keeping up....COYR!!!!

This news has indeed just made it on to Radio 5 and was mentioned on Wake Up To Money. Today's the day folks....

I know this is picky, but if I know what her name is, shouldn't I at least try and use it? I agree, if I was writing a letter and didn't know who was going to pick it up I'd probably say 'Dear Sir/Madam' but in this case the only thing I don't know is a title.
-
How did you know her name?? (Only kidding....) That is very sensible; Dear Jean Smith....nobody could take offence at that. Unless they were called Peter Jones or something. Thanks BTF, I'll use that.
-
You are replying to a rather formal letter, but the lady that wrote the letter has just given her first and last name. Do I reply with Dear Miss? Dear Ms? Use her first name? I don't want to use Mrs because she may not be married.... Come on girls*, what's the correct etiquette in these situations? *Or indeed blokes if you know....

Yeah, about £40. But this thing is terrorising several houses. We'll all club together and even turn up to watch the big off. Tbh, I don't mind the thing being about but it gets is and p155es and it stinks!!!! If it came in, thieved a bit of food and then went, I wouldn't mind so much.

We have actually got one of these cat flaps, but this bl00dy tom is so big it just breaks in....and you're right, I don't want to hurt it (except to catch it and then have it's nuts whipped off at the vets....) Thanks for all the advice so far, it's made good reading. I have thought about a plan of action to catch this thing; you can lock the cat flap so it can come in but can't get out (a la Saint Francis' suggestion, but sans the baseball bat!!!!). I was going to shut the kitchen door, wait for it, trap it by throwing a big sheet over it, wrapping it up and sticking it in a big hessian sack and taking it to the vets. But my missus, who used to be a veterinary nurse, has advised against this. She thinks this stray has gone a bit feral and to use this approach would see me losing an arm or something.... Back to the drawing board....

No, not the Brian Setzer kind, but the intact tom cat type that force their way in through the cat flap, nick all your cats food and p155 over everything. How do you humanely get rid of the f*****s?

Sounds a bit like the plot of Stephen King's 'Cell'....except the recipients die and don't turn into zombies.... I did say a bit like....

Continuing the Watchmen dialogue.... The graphic novel has been a favourite of mine for years and I too was a bit apprehensive as to how this would translate to film after attempts like V for Vendetta, From Hell etc. but in this instance I wasn't disappointed. Yes it took an age to get going but then there's a hell of a lot to try and get into film; there's sub plot within sub plot.... If it had followed the book too closely the ending may have ended up looking something like the end to Akira.... There were things things that were not included....I was wondering if they were going to run Tales of the Black Freighter in it somehow, but that would have been truly dark and really would have detracted from the tale. Perhaps a short in its own right? But all in all a good attempt....8/10....

Yeah, I'm doing it. It's a good larf. I was going to wear a Saints kit if I could get above, say, £500 in sponsorship money.

RIP Tony. Quality bloke. Much imitated, never bettered.

I stayed until the end to avoid the rush.... I know a lot of people that went yesterday did so because at £15 it was well within their budgets at this time of year and also considering how precarious a lot of these peoples job situations are in this present economic climate. And these same people will not be doing the Man Ure cup game because at 30 quid a pop they cannot afford it for the reasons stated above.

Well, you can't stop the Mancs from coming really....
