The chances of West Ham doing a Newcastle, and winning the NPC straight away is pretty slim In fact, I they are more likely to do a Leeds & Saints, go into administration and end up in League 1
-
It takes a generation to start changing your fanbase. The 5 nearest clubs to MK Dons are Luton, Cambridge, Stevenage, Northampton, and Peterborough None of them are huge clubs, but if you've supported them all your life, you're not going to change The future fanbase will be kids now growing up in Milton Keynes, this will be their club It will take a while for this to start showing in attendances though

Not sure what happened to Tom Kilbey, he was supposedly highly rated a couple of years back
-
Football will definitely benefit if a break even rule is implemented throughout every league We shouldn't be too worried, we'll be in the top 6 clubs next year for gates/turnover, so we'd still have bigger budgets than most clubs, especially the ferret twitchers from Barnsley
-
They didn't cost us any money, and are probably on lowish wages They also haven't lost us matches or points by being involved in the 1st team Andreas Jakobsson on the other hand cost us £1Million, and is the worst player I have ever seen in 35 years of watching Saints
-
Yeah, I bet there's loads over the years The difference is, in days gone by we didn't have forums to dissect every single player's contribution Also, before the internet, I imagine the average Saints fan were less aware of squad players, or which youngsters were breaking through
-
Wasn't there some controversy with the way we snapped up McGoldrick from Notts County? I also remember Oxford being quite unhappy when we took Dexter Blackstock from their academy for pittance
-
Arsene Wenger will be sacked within 12 months, so he's better off staying here
-
Correct As strange as it may seem, the rivalry between Jersey and Guernsey is quite intense They've had trouble at these matches in the past

Saints Average Attendance this season is....
Huntingdon replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
That's quite interesting, because many fans over 40 look back with rose tinted spectacles and say The Dell was much better than St Mary's Despite being from that generation, I've always disagreed Yesterday, was another example of what a cracking atmosphere St Mary's can generate, I also believe St Mary's has enticed a new generation of supporters, something The Dell would have failed to do -
I met Tommy Forecast months back in Tesco, Ocean Village All I said to the guy was "Alright Tommy" The bloke didn't even answer, he just looked at me with total contempt

I think getting relegated to League 1 has been good for us all When you see Walsall, a small club with no hope of ever making it to the PL, bringing 1700 fans to SMS desperately hoping they avoid the drop, you realise this is a League for proper football supporters I think over the years we'd possibly forgotten how important the Saints was to us all, but the events of the past 2 years have almost re-awakened us
-
It's amazing where you find Saints supporters. I live in Huntingdon, a few years back we had a works **** up at Peterborough Greyhounds & met a bloke from St Ives wearing a Saints coat
-
I'm getting quite excited & so is my nipper All his mates at school support the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, United etc. They can't understand him turning up for PE in the red sash with Lambert 7 on his back! I notice Walsall have almost sold their 1700 tickets, so should be a cracking atmosphere all round
-
It will be interesting to see if Cortese buys anyone for Adkins The general feeling is Papa Waigo and Guly were brought to the club by Cortese and not Pardew, so we could see some very unexpected signings
-
 Come off it Duncan, after some of the players we've seen over the past 10 years, you know that's a huge exaggeration
-
It appears Walsall are on course to sell their allocation of 1700 tickets We know what relegation is like, so it's a pretty stressful match for them Will anyone feel sympathy for them if we send them down? It will be desperate for those travelling supporters to watch us celebrate, whilst they are gutted at their own demise
-
That's an excellent point. I'd forgotten that Adkins had previously worked with Cork. We've seen with Forte that NA isn't frightened of signing ex-players Don't rule out Nigel signing a player that brings out the 'underwhelmed' line from supporters, but turns out to be an absolute gem Gary Hooper is a prime example, he signed him for £175k from Southend, turned him into a prolific NPC striker and then sold him to Celtic for £2.4Million

What's your very first memory of a Saints game?
Huntingdon replied to sussexsaint's topic in The Saints
My first home game was Easter 1977. My Grandad was a season ticket holder in the West Stand, and he took me to watch Saints vs Cardiff. I was made up when my hero Micky Channon scored and done his windmill celebration in front of us. We were 3-0 up & eventually hung on for a 3-2 win My first away game was August 1985. As a family we'd just moved to Huntingdon, we were away to Ipswich, so not far to travel. We drew 1-1 My first away game with the lads was 1989, FA Cup 5th Round at Liverpool. Brilliant day, totally hammered even though we lost 3-0 -
No doubt we'll get some ludicrous suggestions on here If we lose Chamberlain to Arsenal then getting a season long loan in return is a possibilty, though Ryo Miyaichi is out of the question. He's currently on loan at Feyenoord, so sending him to the NPC is a step backwards, Wenger wouldn't have that. Who knows, we might even get Chamberlain himself back CMS almost joined Norwich a few weeks back, so if they go up and remain interested, we've no chance BT is a good shout, but from what I've seen this season he looks totally past it I understand Middlesbrough are looking to offload some high earners, so I wouldn't be surprised if Scott McDonald could be a target
-
He's done an incredible job, there's no question about that However, at Scunny the only money he had in the Championship was to fight relegation, he never had a chequebook with expectations of mounting a promotion challenge. The next 6 months will show what Adkins is made of If he achieves another promotion, he'll enter the hall of fame

Huddersfield appreciation/respect thread
Huntingdon replied to southbourne saint's topic in The Saints
I'd be really disappointed for them if they didn't win the play-offs To win 89 points and not get promoted would be a virtual travesty They're a good club with good supporters, so all the best to them -

To what extent do you believe football hooliganism is still evident? I think there are problems en route to matches, and possibly afterwards. However, the media don't appear to want to sensationalise these things yet Does hooliganism affect your match day experience? No, not at present Research has indicated that football hooliganism is returning to a similar state to the problem days of the 1960’s and 70’s, do you agree with this statement? No, due to all seater stadiums, CCTV etc we won't see problems inside grounds as before. However, the Bury keeper being punched after a Chesterfield pitch invasion is a worrying sign What in your opinion provokes football disorder? Football hooliganism simply mirrors social problems & Thatcher was too arrogant to realise this. The late 70's & early 80's had serious riots in Brixton & Toxteth, football was just an extension of this social unrest. This is why we may see some kind of return to football violence. There's a lot of angry young men, who feel prospects are poor, they are angry at immigrants taking their jobs etc. Football is very tribal, so all these social problems could rear it's ugly head at matches in the coming years Does your perception of football hooliganism deter you from attending certain football matches? Not yet, but I might think twice about wearing a Saints shirt when travelling to an away match
