Yep. I think it's a great idea and have sent one. Can you imagine Christmas and the New Year witout a Saints game to watch? Unthinkable. We owe this man everything!
-
I'm exactly the same Bert. Every time I see a weak header (or sometimes even a good one that misses) I always say, "Ron Davies would have buried that!" He is without doubt the Striker who sets the benchmark for all others!
-
Bring back Graham Rix!
-
Well, surely, if , at the moment , he is a 'one trick pony' as some are suggesting, it's up to the coaching staff to take him aside and show him a few more tricks so that he can beat, or even by-pass a full-back in different ways. My concern is, how many coaches are there in this country who have the nous to teach those tricks themselves? When you think that Sean Wright- Phillips can actually get in an England team and he is about as clueless a winger as I have ever seen, it makes you wonder if there is anyone out there who can either play or coach decent wing tactics. I wonder how much it would take to prise John Robertson away from Villa? Quite a lot I would imagine!

Brazil likes him. Probably end up on Talk Sport with all the others who can talk a good game!
-
I'll second that. He'd win this league by himself. What a player!
-
"I did not see it."

What a great read all of the above are. Docker Walker eh? Remember the opening titles to ' Match of the Day' when he polaxes Billy Bonds. Wouldn't be allowed on tele nowadays. Fred Kemp still rules!
-
That is very sad news. I can also remember his ball juggling acts. I think he held some kind of record for it at the time. R.I.P. Dave.

There was and still is something hugely warm and satisfying about reading the Pink over and over again when we've won a match or put in a satisfying performance. I feel a glow when I see it on the shelf in the shop even now. Sometimes I would buy several in the old days to either keep or send to someone else who lived further away and couldn't get hold of one. There's nothing quite like it and I've had several mates visit at various times who supported other teams who said they wished their town or team had a paper as good and so swiftly delivered (in those days). I will certainly miss it greatly if it goes.

and 'Barry' from Portsmuff
-
Totally agree with all of that. Can you imagine Irani and Vernon Kay in the same room together!
-
Best left back. Steve Mills. Would have gone on to captain England without a doubt. R.I.P. Stevie boy.

What I meant was, they used to traditionally play on a friday night for the reason I stated. As you say, probably not any more. so I don't know what the reason is.
-
Southend have always played home games on a Friday even when I lived there thirty years ago. I think its to avoid clashing with the London teams which many Southend folk also support i.e. West Ham.

Fed up with absolutely NO decent Saints coverage on local radio...

Thanks mate. I'd send you a signed copy of me book, only I don't think I've written one yet! -

Hi, it's good old Dave Merryweather here again and I expect you's have all bin missing me as i haven't posted on here for a while. Well, I'll tell you, I'm bitterly dissapointed with some of the posts on here. What's all this 'chip on my shoulder' all about? Chip on me shoulder? It's more like a roast potato I can tell you! I wasn't sacked was I? If I was, I certainly can't remember it, Tristan (or is it Tony now?) Anyways, as ya all know, 'Solent' is a great broadcaster, not least for the fact that they're still employing me and, I know, from talking to the fans, that they tune into us every week! I'll continue to try and provide first class analysis for the benefit of you, ' the people listening at home' (i.e. those of you who have no idea of what it's like to be a professional footballer) and I'll tell you what Tristan (er... Tony) I'll continue coming out with me classics for all you fans. I know you'd all really miss the likes of, "What Saints have got to do, Tony, having scored the goal, is not sit back and defend and concede a goal themselves. That's really important!" or even, "I like Alan, but i think the fans might becoming a little bit baffled by his tactics at this stage!" (Oh no, I haven't said that yet, have I. That's the one I used for George. Maybees in a few weeks time. Then i might still be in with a chance!) Anyways, you fellas out there, make sure you stick to Solent because it wouldn't be the same without me! -
Coppell lined up as Director of Football - online report (or not)
Nutwood2 replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Totally agree with that. Getting Coppell on board in whatever capacity surely has to be excellent news! -
Very , very sad. I know there's no room for sentiment in football and all that jazz, but, given what's hapened to him previously, I feel for the bloke big time!
-
Absolutely. It was the unpredictability of the guy that made him so exciting. He wouldn't be allowed to play like that in today's game of course. It would be coached out of him straight away.
-
Tommy Jenkins eh. I think he has my vote as the most frustrating player ever to wear a Saints shirt. As you say, when he was good he was unbelievable wasn't he....used to dribble past the entire opposition but always gave the impression that he didn't know what the end product was going to be. When it did come off, it was unbelievable. I seem to remember a game against Everton. I think we were 2-0 down and we ended up winning 3-2. I'm pretty sure that was his best game when everything came together. Ah,memories eh!
-
Ron Davies. Still remember the day we signed him. We were on the Grand Union Canal and heard it on the radio. I was about sixteen. Well, we all know what a legend Big Ron became. I have high hopes for this guy on the same basis. Could have a huge impact. Let's hope so!

How did they manage to secure the services of the two most objectionable blokes in football....Claridge and Holloway? I can't stand either of 'em. And the bird reading the emails is just too enthusiastic and lively. Do breakfast TV luv. I'm asleep then. And what's with the dungeon that they're in? Have they got a well we can throw them all down?

Who was sitting next to Pardew at Farnborough game?
Nutwood2 replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
It's Alesha Dixon. -
I think a 'slow death' is the order of the day for the fishy ones. Keep them 'afloat' (ha ha) and see if they can win a game this season (it's looking doubtful!) and then we can do the double over them next season before watching them 'sink' still further into oblivion. Much better than losing them altogether!
