  1. As I said on here after his five minutes (most of his touches being rubbish, probably due to over anxiousness) against Rovers, "This guy will turn out to be a class act!" It was obvious he had the awareness, movement and willingness to do a great job for us.
  2. Yep. Seasons greetings to you Ron. My mate and I were on a narrow boat on the Grand Union Canal when we heard you were signing for us. £50,000 ! Couldn't believe Saints were shelling out like that. You then went on to provide years of superlative, magical entertainment....the greatest centre forward of all time without doubt! Thanks so much, Ron. You were the best and don't you ever forget it!
  3. Well, just watched Jenny Agutter again in the Railway Children. Certainly beats watching Jason Puncheon and Bradley Wright Phillips!
  4. Ok. Looking on the bright side. If it was on, we'd lose anyway. D'you really think this lot would perform on a freezing afternoon in Hartlepool? I think not! If it's off, it gives a bit more time for injuries to heal and we would soon be back up to full strength. Call it off now I say!
  5. Brilliant management. If he doesn't put the effort in at Millwall, they'll soon let him know all about it. Perhaps he'll then return realising where he was well off!
  6. Never rated him. Got a lot of flak from people after the Bristol Rovers game when I said he 'flatters to deceive'. He certainly has some sort of ability but I don't know exactly what it is. He would certainly frustrate me as a manager. I'd feel like giving him a firm boot up the backside and telling him to take the game by the scruff of the neck......but he never does! Reminds me a bit of John Barnes whilst playing for England. Very very frustrating and ultimately, given loads of opportunities, only produces the goods on those rare occassions!

The name Wright-Phillips sends shivers down my spine> Neither of them are 'footballers'. I'm sorry to say that they are both 'headless chickens' who have made a lot of money from running down 'blind alleys' at breakneck speed without actually having a clue what they're doing. They're bound to score a few along the way....so would I! No, it was a good days work when he was shown the door!
  8. George Best by a country mile. Also saw Tony Currie in his prime play brilliantly. Peter Osgood of course. Stan Bowles deserves a mention.
  9. Do we have the players in this current team with the stomach for a battle? That's my chief concern. We have to go to difficult places like Huddersfield and compete. It was the same last season. Fine when it's a nice sunny day at St Mary's but not so good when conditions and pitches don't suit. We have to get over that if we're going to get out of this division. I know it's a cliche but it's true. We just must learn to grind out results and, as I say, I'm not convinced we have the right players to do it. Hope I'm wrong!
  10. Knew he was class as soon as he came on at Bristol Rovers. Two overhit passes straight away, but great awareness , great movement and great first touch. Mario Kempes.
  11. Not short on confidence, old Nige is he? That's what we need. Let's go for it!
  12. Brilliant. Always cheers me up. Coleman really thought we were in for a thrashing for the first fifteen minutes or so, then it slowly dawned on him that we weren't. The more I see of it, the more I realise what a brilliant strike that was. And just to think, my mate and I travelled back on the train to Fareham with Stokesy after one game at the Dell. What a lovely, unassuming little fella he was!
  13. Whenever I've heard Eddie Howe interviewed on radio he comes across very well indeed....articulate, quick thinking with his replies, yet diplomatic. I tend to put a lot of value on that and it would appear from results down there that he has the ability to do well for us. Why not? We won't know unless he's given a crack at it will we!

    Gareth Bale

Yep, great strike. He has become an awesome player. Good day for me yesterday (apart from the result) as I have Walcott and Bale in my fantasy team. Shame I didn't pick Fuller as well for a nice ex-Saints triple!
  15. A very simple and moving service and very thought provoking standing outside in the sunshine listening to the tributes and stories of such a humble man. Wes's summary is excellent and looking around at the bowed heads as the story of the watches was being read out really summed it up. The sight of all the invited guests walking slowly together back to St Mary's was also quite special. Thanks a million again, Markus.
  16. Sad lack of creativity I'm afraid. Plymouth won most of the 50/50's as well. Old cliche I know, but I do think they wanted it more.
  17. Did Antonio celebrate his goal?
  18. I'm pretty sure he was half Italian. Definitely had the old Italian flair didn't he. I loved the guy. Certainly one of my favourite Saints players.
  19. Great line.
  20. John McGrath
  21. Many thanks to Matt for posing for pics with my 90 year old Mum and to Casey, Lawrie and Chris Nichol in particular for their thoughtfulness and general banter. A great day watching all the boys play! I hope it's a big help to Kevin and family.
  22. I'm so missing Bradley Wright Phillips!
  23. Was just about to say the same thing! Hope you're still watching, Stevie!
  24. Sounded like Solent were 'stirring' big time. Remarks such as, 'The crowd were even calling your name, Alan' are obviously designed to provoke a reaction and, when he didn't really 'bite' on any of the questions, they 'turn it round' and make out he's got the hump. Can't win can he. As for 'Good old Uncle Dave', he's a tricky as ever. Very magnanimous today wasn't he. What a surprise! Still thinks he could do a better job than any of them!
