I have it on good authority that at least one member of this forum reads Milton and for that matter I'm a leading authority in the field Victorian pornography , add that to Wes Tender's degree in Quantum Mechanics and our intellectual credentials are quite beyond reproach .
-
Nah - Like SFC this is a Premier League standard forum temporarily slumming it down in League one .
-
The occasional glimpse at other sites shows just how rubbish they can be - this Charlton forum must have a compulsory IQ limit of 75 or you get expelled for signs of intellectual over-development .

Transfer Chat With Times Journalist
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
I wouldn't say two mentions counts as 'regular' to be fair . The sporting jurno who's never been wrong or received any criticism is a very rare beast indeed . -
Transfer Chat With Times Journalist
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
A quick 'Forum Search' shows that Gary Jacobs name has only ever been quoted on 3 threads - and two of those are current . -
Coppers say all kinds of things when they're off the record - one very un-pc PC told me once that if he was me he'd have 'clobbered' a thug I was having a problem with - which I now understand is not quite within the Police Code of Conduct . Years ago a retired copper I was working with told me he once had occasion to tell a member of the public to "go away and play under a train" - advice which the chap in question followed to the letter :smt103 - needless to say the version of events that was finally committed to writing in the plod's pocket book differed slightly .

Unwanted at his current club... HCDAJFS!
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to Danish Saint's topic in The Saints
There are quite literally thousands of professional footballers in the world game HCDAJFU - if we start a new thread on each one this place is going to become a tad over active ! -
True but for £15k a week you could employ 3 top quality L1 players .
-
Well keeping Rasiak this season is going to cost the club £800k in wages + whatever we can get now in a transfer fee - a combined number well north of £1m I'd say . For that kind of money we could sign another player of Ricky Lambert's quality who actually wants to play for this club , I ask you which is the better way to spend the clubs cash ?

No signing for 24 hours now....
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to revolution saint's topic in The Saints
I think you will find the club is on the verge of announcing that Anthony Pulis has signed a contract extension - great news I think we can all agree . -
LOL - That George Eliot was a top bloke too .

One of the reasons Lambert signed for us is that we 'doubled his wages' compared to what Bizzol were prepared to offer him , as there's no indication that Markus Liebherr will allow the wage bill inflate out of control again (and nor should he) I take that to indicate that some large earner(s) will shortly be on their way - Saganowski and Rasiak (on £15k a week) may well fit the bill . We still need at least one more striker signed I'd say to go with Lambert , Paterson and Lallana - unless Jamie White is considered ready for the first team that is . Something tells me Alan Pardew needs no prompting from us to realise this .
-
I'd have thought you had enough problems at your disintegrating club before making a puerile attempt to troll a reaction on here - btw Fratton makes Rochdale look like the Cote d'Azur .
-
I object to your "up the Chapel End" comment .

And how did Google inform you of Pinnacle's weaknesses oh wise one when virtually no information on the composition of the bid was publicly available ? oh and feel free to quote the post where you exposed them as well . I take it you posted this in the '10 minutes' it took before you went on Google : http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=315071

How terribly easy it is to sit safely on the side lines and criticise those who put their reputations at stake and actually attempt to do something to save the club in its hour of need . Those suggesting that MLT should somehow have had perfect foreknowledge of the Pinnacle Bids ultimate failure to retain sufficient financial backing are assuming Matt possesses intimate contacts in the world of high finance - for heavens sake the man's just a former player who tried (in good faith) to help save his old club from oblivion , not some city financier type dealmaker . It's unfortunate the Pinnacle bid delayed Markus Liebherr's successful takeover of SFC , but no true Saints fan will ever hold that against MLT - 'Wind Up Merchants' suffering from some bizarre multiple personalty disorder excepted of course .

I like that , good interview and how refreshing it is to hear a club official engage in unambiguous straight talk without resort to feuding with old enemies or telling us the clubs future rests on some Merchant Bankers say so . I judge people on what they do rather than on what they say but for now at least I see no good reason to doubt Nicola Cortese's word , for that matter I can't think of a single valid criticism of Mr Liebherr's new regime . Our old football club's in safe hands at last , long may it continue .
-
No one should doubt this lads technical ability , we saw glimpses of that last season and again yesterday , the question is can he turn natural ball skills into being a truly effect player in the lower leagues of British football . The only answer for the moment seems to be a definite maybe . You could say much the same of Adam Lallana by the way .

Fitness training after they've just finished a 90 minute football match . I don't think so , more likely a 'warm down' session common in professional sport .
-
Apparently Rasiak is the most effective striker in the League : http://www.imscouting.com/global_news_item.aspx?id=2770 Next week MK3 Ford Cortina voted best car ever .
-
....or alternatively he wanted to play for us but someone else made him a much better offer than we did and he decided to take it . I seem to remember you saying footballers are perfectly entitled to look after their own interests , or does that only apply to players you happen to like ?

Saints v Millwall Post Match Reactions
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
My ratings for Saints v Millwall (1-1) K Davis 7.5 - At his usual (high) standard again , saved a pen & had no chance with their goal G Murty 7.5 - Experienced pro who certainly knows his business as you'd expect , looking to be a good signing . W Thomas 7 - Considering just how little football he's had in the last 12 months I thought he did well . C Perry 6.5 - Solid if unspectacular performance as usual . D Harding 8 MOTM - A free transfer  somebody's 'aving a larf' , the best LB we've had for years maybe . L James 5 - His performance didn't leave much of an impression on my memory TBH . P Wotton 5.5 - Mr Journeyman midfielder . M Schneiderlin 7 - You know I think this lad might be starting to 'get' British football at last , got stuck in & showed a touch of class . A Lallana 6 - No cause for complaint but still not as effective as I'd hope , perhaps we expect too much of him . M Saganowski 6.5 - Put a decent shift in but never looks very likely to score - same as usual then . M Patterson 7 - I love a striker who can take a simple chance - needs to work on his fitness . Substitutes : S Gillett 4.5 - On for James he had a bit of a mare sadly - kept giving the ball away . Bad day at the office . O Gobern 5 - On for Paterson & looking very raw ATM , for some reason I can see him developing into a decent player in time . J Thomson - late sub on for Schneiderlin . Summery : The result was fair enough to both sides & I'd say we did pretty well all things considered , the defense is looking particularly solid and organised which is both unheard of for SFC and to the credit to the players involved and Alan Pardew . We obviously need to settle on a preferred striker partnership and a little more creativity from midfield wouldn't go amiss either , but this team is clearly still a work in progress . I'm reliably informed that Millwall are one of the better sides in this division and if that's true the fact that we matched them with ease for most of the game proves that there really is nothing to fear but fear itself . -
Good question - Pompey getting tonked 4-0 in the EPL every game or (hopefully) the Saints winning their fair share down in L1 - I'd say it's almost impossible to actually enjoy watching your team lose a match so we may well have more fun this season than PFC , after all the enjoyment of watching your team win a football game is the reason we go in the first place isn't it ? Of course the ideal situation would be watching your team win games at the highest possible level , but we are where we are and I for one fully hope & expect to enjoy watching my team this season - I bet plenty of pompey fans would struggle to say the same .

It seems to me that if the Football League were really interested in curbing clubs expenditure then they could easily adopt a simple 'Formula One' style spending cap - that will never happen because (as in F1) the richer clubs will want to maintain their competitive advantage vis-a-vis the poorer ones , this is the way of the world unfortunately . The 'Parachute Payment' demoted EPL clubs receive also distorts the proper functioning of the League - I would suggest a useful reform would be that clubs in receipt of this payment should be restricted to spending these monies on securing the clubs financial position only (reducing debt ... etc) rather than on signing more players in a desperate attempt to immediately regain their former EPL status . With regard to the points deduction system as this is a quasi-judicial process I see no good reason as to why proper judicial practice's should not be employed - a few ideas : 1 - All sanctions imposed should be subject to a proper independent review process without fear of FL retaliation against the appellate . 2 - Punishments should be made flexible - ie points deductions could be suspended or spread over several seasons in deserving cases . 3 - Sporting sanctions are currently applied only on clubs that 'overspend' and subsequently fall into Administration , if you overspend but get promoted to the EPL as a result there is no punishment - in fact you get rewarded with SKY TV money . I would suggest this cannot be right in principle . The arguments for introducing a wage cap for players are well known and quite convincing , although I do not intent to repeat them here this could prove a rapid and relatively pain-free route to putting the game back on a stable financial footing without resorting to the current contentious and deeply flawed 'Sporting Sanctions' regulations .
