  1. Everyone seems to be suggesting they move it to the Antigua Recreation Ground, but from what I saw of that, it's a right run-down mess. Surely there's a very simple solution, although it would involve both the WICB and ECB bending over for Allen Stanford again...
  2. Right, we've made some changes to the database config, which will hopefully improve the speed in which it takes to retrieve all the post data every time you lot hit F5 Hopefully it'll solve the problems we've been having recently on matchdays. If it still doesn't fix it, there is at least one more avenue we can look at next week, but that will involve a slightly longer period of downtime. Obviously if we need to do that, we'll try to schedule it for the quieter periods.
  3. In order to make some config changes to the database in an attempt to resolve the problems we've been having on matchdays, the forum will be down for a short period (should only be a few minutes) some time after 2pm. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

  5. Correct.
  6. Must be Sack Your Manager Week...
  7. Russia was £50...
  8. Given a choice between £60 for a Prem Plus season ticket and £12.99 a month for the same games with a crap satellite signal, it's a no-brainer for me. I like the slightly more refreshing not-arse-kissing way Setanta have gone about things, but too much of their coverage smacks of "cheap and tacky". Of course, most of Sky's stuff reeks of "overpriced and tacky", but you get what I mean...
  9. The Premier League have announced today that Sky have won 5 of the 6 live Premier League broadcasting packages starting from 2010, with the other going to Setanta (they've kept the Saturday evening block but lost the Monday night one). Now that Setanta will only be showing 23 Premier League games per season, anyone else reckon they're going to be in a spot of bother with customers cancelling left, right and centre?
  10. The only way to get official England allocation tickets for the world cup will be via the membership. Those who have the most caps stand the best chance of getting tickets, the rest will be in a ballot. You might get lucky in a FIFA ballot or from a tout, but unless you're a member, you won't get one in the FA's allocation.
  11. I don't think you'll ever stop that, to be honest - when Keith had the chat-room on SaintsForever, whenever there was a goal, 30-odd people would all post "GOOOOOOOOALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!1111shift+one" at the same time The rest I generally agree with, although as you say it's another thing for people to get their heads around - the forum principle was hard enough to comprehend for a lot of people initially! Ideally, I'd love to be able to set up match threads to automatically refresh via AJAX, but I suspect that *would* completely kill the server
  12. Sadly, this sort of thing doesn't fall under their remit.
  13. Just send whatever you're using as your proof of travel to them through the post. They tightened up on it a couple of years ago - previously you could get away with sending photocopies of boarding cards etc to them, but they then realised that there were quite a lot of people who were pretty handy with a scanner and Photoshop, so they now insist on originals, and I think they generally now only accept a boarding card or hotel receipt, either of which has to have your name on it.
  14. The number of "active" members, i.e. those who have been online at some point in the last month, is just under 2000 (it's on the front page). Personally, I think having had nearly a third of that figure pay the subscription fee is actually a pretty good takeup. As has been said by Ponty already, we do discuss most suggestions that are received. However, we don't discuss them the minute someone posts them, so given that this thread was only started yesterday, I don't think it's unreasonable to at least give us a bit of time to discuss them. I've noticed you say this on a number of occasions, and yet strangely not a single mod or admin has suggested it to Baj or I. I don't think we've ever said that or even suggested it. What we have said in the past is that we're happy with the way things are working at that particular time. Right now, we're working pretty hard to ensure that the forum isn't going to run into problems during matchdays. At the moment it's looking like that might not be sorted until after this weekend (apologies in advance), but in all honesty the vast majority of my spare time is spent on SaintsWeb-related activities. I'm not looking for thanks and/or praise for that, I'm merely stating that there are only so many hours in a day, and we are prioritising what we feel needs to be done and what would be "nice" to have in that order. Absolute top priority is getting the performance issues fixed - someone suggested the other day that a chat-room linked to the main board during the game would take a load off the server as there wouldn't be 650 people pressing F5 at the same time. That may well be true, but in all honesty, I reckon it would probably take less time to fix the performance issues than it would to find chat software that integrates with vBulletin, install it, test it and then open it. Without wishing to sound like a PLC chairman not a million miles from here, it does seem to be the same dozen or so people who regularly come up with these other (non-performance) problems, such as the number of forums, etc, while the majority don't appear to have any complaints. As far as I'm concerned - and the other admins may not agree with me, I'm simply stating my opinion - the main board is the priority, as that is the main reason for the forum's existence. The majority of the other boards are there in order to keep non-Saints-related content off the main board. The vast majority of members - whether they're full members or otherwise - only come on here to use the main board. While it could be argued that a number of the off-topic boards could be merged into one, it was perceived as being the right move at the time. If we believe that it would make more sense to merge them back together again, we will do so. But by the same token, if you want to post about cricket, for example, isn't it easier that there's a sub-forum there specifically for that particular subject, rather than it potentially either a) get lost among other threads on a merged off-topic board, or b) get hijacked by the usual suspects who don't actually have any sort of interest in it? If all of them were merged together, clearly the number of threads in that forum would increase a lot, and for threads like some of the ones on the photography forum, they could go some time without a reply and then it could take someone who didn't know how to search the forum a long time to find it.
  15. 4 for home, 1 for away, and you'll have to provide proof of travel for away games, e.g. plane ticket, hotel receipt with your name on it, etc.
  16. ITV News in unintentional LOL moment: "In case you missed it, Everton beat Liverpool 1-0"
  17. That was the advert I saw instead of the goal. What a farce.
  18. Long-term loans do not have recall clauses in them, hence why we couldn't get Rasiak and/or John back, even if we (or Watford/Bristol City respectively) wanted to. I *think* short-term loans only have recall clauses in after the first 31 days, hence Pearce was recalled by Reading after that time. Quite a few one-month loans get extended by another month or two, and within that extra time period, the recall clause would be active.
  19. Dunno about underrated, you need to be pretty quick and sharp to book an evening table there!
  20. There now
  21. Chez Bruce. A minute from Wandsworth Common station. Michelin-starred.
  22. "Working from home" today as the trains are screwed.
  23. I absolutely hate this. I've got a USB mobile broadband dongle from Vodafone, and it's decided that, without asking me whether I want to or not, it's going to attempt to load a JavaScript file on every single page load that reduces the quality of every single image. I've not got an issue with this, per se, (although I'm never going to get close to the 3gb monthly limit) but it completely screws up Google Maps, which I've been using quite a lot on the train recently as I'm using that time to develop a big stats section for the main site, which will include ground guides, etc with interactive maps. I've not been able to test it at all, as this irritating JavaScript file conflicts with the Google API :mad::mad:
  24. 1. At a guess, Iain Dowie, Terry Hurlock, Glenn ****erill? 4. Iain Dowie 8. Yeovil Town 9. Scored a peach of a volley but it didn't count as the ref/linesman didn't notice the ball had crossed the line (by two yards), hit the back of the net, hit the wall at the front of the Archers Road end and rebounded out.
  25. I've said nothing of the sort. I'm not doing that either. I actually supported sending him out on loan to save on his wages. I have no "f**king problem" with Crouch, so wind your neck in and start actually reading what people write rather than reading what you want people to have written so you can have a pop. I was stating a fact - Leon Crouch was the chairman who sent Skacel to Hertha Berlin a year ago. Neither Lowe or Wilde were on the board at the time. Plain and simple.
