Property Management - how easy is it to go it alone?
stevegrant replied to stevegrant's topic in The Lounge
That sounds unbelievably cheap... -
Right, my patience has evaporated with the shower of complete *insert countless expletives here* that "manage" the building that my flat is a part of. I have vague recollections of seeing a few people posting on here before saying they - along with the other leaseholders - do it themselves which works out a lot cheaper and with less hassle, so I'm after some advice/suggestions... I've not yet discussed this with any of the other leaseholders, although I do know that at least two of them have been unhappy with their dealings with them in the fairly recent past, so I would suggest/hope that they would be interested. How would we go about a) setting up our own management company, and b) ditching the current bunch of shysters? Is it as simple as going to the freeholders and saying "we want to do this ourselves, and it won't cost you as much", and hoping they agree to it?

You mean when he's siding with someone you disapprove of? in cheek> Seriously, it's clear that he's got a great deal of respect for Lowe (unsurprisingly), and also believes that the survival job is going to be tough enough without peoples' focus being diverted away from that big green thing inside the ground at this vital time of the season. Personally, I don't think there's ever a "good" time to make what is likely to be an unpopular statement. However, sometimes people feel that certain things need to be out in the open, and Wotte's obviously felt that this is one such time. The bloke's got balls, I'll give him that - I hope it doesn't backfire on him.
-
I'd be surprised if the Lowe boycotters were interested in playing, to be honest - after all, the money's going straight to the club When we open applications, we'll also ask people to (honestly) rate their own ability as well as giving their preferred position(s). With that, we'll then - hopefully - be able to divide the teams as equally as possible. There's no point having ridiculously mismatched teams as there's no fun in getting absolutely hammered, particularly if you've paid decent money for the privilege.

I suspect it's a rehash of an old quote. That said, it does actually make a refreshing change for a manager (or a player, for that matter) to come out and actually say what they think rather than hide behind tired clichés and platitudes. While it might not be universally popular, it does show a very obvious grit and determination about the bloke which I admire greatly.

Hopefully should have (relatively) final details tomorrow... stay tuned, folks

To be fair, Watford have still been really hit and miss. I watched one of Cork's first games for Watford away at Reading. He controlled the midfield for them, but they got battered 4-0. I'd expect them to be safe, but they're far from out of the woods yet. Of course, Rasiak won't be able to play against us, so it'll probably be Will Hoskins alongside Tamas Priskin, who's in a decent run of form himself. Still a few weeks before that game, though.

Are we done now, children?

To be fair, I'm not intending it as something that totally replaces the match threads or the minute-by-minute reports on the OS. Essentially, the way it worked on Tuesday was something happened during the game and I sent a message to Twitter via my BlackBerry. Twitter has a limit of 140 characters per "Tweet", so there's only so much information I can put in there anyway, and of course I'd quite like to be able to watch the game as well as keep people updated on it I'm not totally sure how viable it is as a long-term thing, I might end up just using it for goal updates as it was a significant amount of extra effort for me to constantly be entering stuff into my phone during the game. Thanks for the feedback, though... keep it coming

Still waiting for a response from the club re a couple of queries I had. I've sent another e-mail to chase that this afternoon.

Quids in today, I take it?

Is there any more feedback from the Twitter experiment?

I generally take the really hypocritical approach to ticket touts, i.e. I've got no real problem with them as if people weren't willing to pay through the nose for an event the tout makes no money, but if they get tickets to an event I want to go to and as a result get priced out of it, I'll be pretty ****ed off

Bournemouth will stay up.

Well we'll cross that bridge if/when we come to it I know what you mean - I only signed up to Twitter yesterday and have spent far more time than I should on there! You should still be able to see the updates on the front page of the main site - http://www.saintsweb.co.uk - if you can't view the SaintsWeb Twitter page.
-
Yep. That problem with the chat room really was bizarre - there was absolutely no reason why the software should have put that restriction on :smt017

Saints vs Derby - Build Up Fred - forum becomes members-only from 6.30pm!
stevegrant replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
Live updates from the game on our Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/SaintsWeb and also on the main site's home page http://www.saintsweb.co.uk - particularly useful for those who only read the matchday threads rather than post in them. Also, please note you'll need to be logged in to view the main board tonight in an attempt to keep the performance levels high enough. -
As a test concept, we will be running live match updates from tonight's game on the new SaintsWeb Twitter feed, which will also be visible on the front page of the main site. Hopefully, if a percentage of those who use the match threads to find out what's going on but don't post use the Twitter feed, we should find the performance improve a bit. We will also be restricting access to the main site to Registered Users, Full Members and Mods/Admins. If you have registered but haven't confirmed your account (an e-mail will have been sent to the address you registered with), you will not be able to view this forum this evening. Either confirm your account to become a Registered User or use the Twitter feed for match updates.

Assuming you win, of course

Yeah, they generally don't return the stake like they would with a normal bet, do they?

We stopped taking applications about 5 minutes after we asked for them - the kit situation needs to be taken into account, which I'm waiting for an e-mail back from the club about. Essentially, I'm trying to see if we can get a deal on 32 sets of kit, the cost of which would then be added on. Once we've sorted that one way or the other, we'll re-open it.

Hey, I didn't put your studs into the ground and twist your knee causing the ligament damage... anyway, loads of players have come back from a similar injury to be better players - Alan Shearer, for example
-
Obviously you're all welcome to run one between yourselves, but I'll also try to get something that will integrate with the site set up for the start of next season.
