hahahaha. That was the funniest post of the year!! Beattie was the laziest player I've ever seen at SMS. I can remember watching Beattie in the centre circle waiting to kick off the 2nd half in one of our premiership games when an empty burger box blew past him on the wind. That was the only time he ran that afternoon....

I was hoping the same would be true of Kelvin, seeing as he's so keen to stay....

Saints 4 points above relegation. Portsmouth 5

Has anyone seen a list of the 32 clubs caught up in this? Couldn't see anything on the BBC site. -
do we have the most financial restrictions..?

Agreed, if Skacel does go then with Greg on loan til the end of the season, that leaves us Saga, Stern, Kelvin & Euell as the high wage earners. Kelvin must be kept, together with one of Saga/Stern if finances allow. I seem to remember this quote as well, in response to Crouch being interviewed. It's an interesting one as it does seem to contradict the comment made in the accounts that the cash flow projection to Nov 2009 included asset sales, which I can only determine as players. If its not true then he has left himself in a very difficult position, and as such if Surman and/or Lallana do get sold in Jan then this quote should be dug out and used as a presssure point on Lowe. -

Actually DPS, for the one and only time (ever) I will agree with Stanley. Football clubs have lived beyond their means for years, and right now with economy the way it is, times have changed. SFC must support itself, and have a cost base relavent to its income. That is the only way of maintaining this club long term, unless you can find a rich sugar daddy. The pain that we have suffered is going to be felt by a lot of other clubs over the next few years, lets hope we're in a position where we can benefit from them being on the down. -

Um, you forgot d) is available but you also made the mistake of using or instead of and - it should read that we want someone who a) wants the job, and b) could do the job, and c) we could afford and d) is available I will happily support any suggestions because I want Lowe and his cronies out as much as the next man. The point is we are stuck with Lowe until a genuine candidate comes along. -

St Marco, statistics can say anything you want them to - the one that says everything is the league table. There are a lot of if's in your last post, and I could come back with a lot of if's as well. If we went on a 5 match winning streak.... etc. Right now, Lowe is running the club, find a viable alternative (that preferably doesn't involve Wilde, Crouch, Askham or any of the other muppets who have made a mess out of trying to run the club before) and I will back them 100%. Until then we are stuck with Lowe (and yes - I want him out as well). -

On current form, we've lost our last two. But the season isn't measured like that, although some who think we'll win the league after winning one game may argue!! So far (before Charlton play) we are 4 points above the relegation zone, that's the measure that counts. Do you really think that Lowe wants us to lose 50% of our games?? No disrespect to you or your mates, but I'm sure we'd lose nearer 90% with you in charge, the same as if I or anyone else off the street was in charge. We only rely on others doing worse that us when the situation is out of our control, like the last day of last season. So far, we have a better record than 3 other teams in this league - but it only really counts for anything at the end of the season. -
I take your point, but the difference between Spurs & Saints is that Ramos had lost the dressing room, no-one had any confidence in him, and changing the manager just helped re-unite it. From what I've heard, the players are supportive of JP, and enjoy playing under him. Sunderland is the same thing, after Keane goes then the stories come out about how he treated the players. I suppose the question should be, is JP popular because he is not tough enough with the players? Dropping (or not) DMG might be evidence that he needs to be tougher. The way he handled Dyer at the start of the season proves he can do it. Perhaps the players need a spell with some hard discipline to make them appreciate what they have at the moment.

Half way through the season........its going to get worse I fear!!!
Gorgiesaint replied to exit2's topic in The Saints
Of course, we've been trying to lose games against Palace & Burnley. Perhaps thats Lowe's vision to make it more exciting for the fans -
I'm pretty sure that given the chance, JP would want some more experience at the back & up front to help the youngsters - but he doesn't have that choice. That said, he have brought in a number of loans that have baffled me and others that have dissappointed. Bring in BD and we'll try and play a more physical game. But how is that going to succeed if the players can't play that way (demonstrated against Palace & Burnley). We could feed them a bit more & hope they grow??!! New tactic, 3 shredded wheat every morning....

I hope for our sake that you are right!! Of course, when we will be in a position to appoint a new CEO/MD is another matter requiring Lowe to vacate the chair. -

Gorgiesaint replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
And of course, being MD/CEO of SLH is the most attractive proposition in the world at the moment! You want someone who experienced at that level, although not necessarily with a football background? Put yourself in their position. Would you jump to new employer to do the same job, at a company that is deep in the brown stuff and has the threat of administration hanging over it, tempted by the wages that are so great that the person you are replacing is only employed two days a week? -
He needs more time. 6 months with the youth squad & some loan signings is not enough.
-
Delldays, results are important but so is the way we play. If I look back at games I remember as classics then many of them we lost (Saints 2 Liverpool 3 from 1981) If BD is that good a manager then why has he been out of work as a manager since parting company with Derby?

No, but you do have to pay them. Of course, we've got pots of money so that will be no problem. -
I think BD was slagged by just about everyone on this board when Pearson was appointed. I seem to remember him being described as short-arsed,arrogant, scottish c*** whose teams play hoofball. Many voiced the opinion that they would rather poke their eyes out than watch that sort of football. That was after he left as manager of Derby. We knew at the start of the season, it was going to be tough and be a relegation battle & guess what, we're exactly where we thought we'd be. Everyone is quick to moan about Lowe appointing managers, changing too quickly but you're happy to do the same with JP. Give the guy some time, some resources would help, he's had 6 months with one arm tied behind his back given the squad he's got. And its sounds like the players actually want to be here despite the no doubt meagre wages (relative to other clubs) that we're paying them.

In reality at the moment, he's the ONLY option (IMHO). Lets review that when you find someone to buy him & Wilde out. Apart from that agree with what DPS said. -
Spot on - and yet the flybe lettering on the training tops is perfect, yet they are half the price of the strip!! Figure that one out??!!
-
Saga's recent form is a positive for us, but how we will benefit will depend on what decision he & Aalborg take. Either: Aalborg take up the option to buy him, and that's another of the 'higher' wage earners off of the books. This could potentially mean that Lallana or Surman has a better chance of staying. (Not to mention the cash injection) or Aalborg don't take up the offer - we then get a player who is in a little bit of form & more importantly, appears to want to come back & play for us. That could give us the experiance that we need up front & the enthusiasm will help as well.
-
Good idea Pennyred. Get the famous yellow colours out, no clash with Forest's colours and allows us all to get behind the team whilst making our point to Lowe that we want him out.
-
So if that is the case then Stanley, shouldn't we rebel against Lowe and unite behind the team (after all that what fans do). Support the team during the game and then by all means demonstrate against Lowe after the game. But of course, this would go against your philosophy. So by boycotting SMS and allowing Lowe to divide the fanbase, then you appear to be helping him with his 'divide & conquer' campaign.

Graham Baker, Nick Holmes & Chris Marsden. All hard working players who gave everything every time they pulled on a Saints shirt.

De-listing the club in itself won't solve the 'problem' of the owners taking a dividend. Even if the club was in private hands, you would expect the owner to want some return for the £50m or so they would need to stump up. And no-one has yet found a Saints mad fan with that kind of money kicking around who doesn't want any return. However if de-listing would save the club money then it should be looked at. Can someone who owns some shares get this question tabled at the AGM? At least then we can get a debate started amongst the shareholders over who would be in favour. The only other question mark would be if barclays would be happy with us de-listing, but I cannot think why given the potential savings.
-
Not really, it would be standard accounting practice. Bit like worst case scenario - there's no guarantee that we will receive add-ons (e.g. player gets a career ending injury) but we assume that we'll have to pay add-ons for players we've bought. I may have missed this though - is there an updated set of accounts out now? I've only seen the original set published last week. I notice there is nothing on the OS yet other than the link from the news on the 24th?
