  1. Quite right, even if the Dr does manage to take over, they still won't have a pot to **** in. Better that than he pulls out & by some miracle, someone else out there decides to stump up (unless of course its MJ!!!)
  2. Must have still been half asleep when I wrote that!!! I meant it to be 2 separate points (and failed miserably) 9018 won't have helped the coffers much (as someone else points out, they probably paid Rangers to play) & only 9018 when most of those were Rangers fans - just how many Pompey fans bothered to turn up???!!!
  3. and he did say signings. So wonder who's next??

  6. The thought had crossed my mind that maybe the story about the work permit was a cover whilst they apply to stop other clubs getting involved. Who else would talk to player who 'apparantly' can't get a work permit? Pardew has said the deal is not 100% dead, so how do they progress it if he's passed a medical and agreed terms - apply for the missing bit, the work permit.
  7. Could be a fatal blow for them this season, Kidd is one of the top assistants in the country (IMO) and I'm not sure that Hart has the nouse to get a decent squad out of trouble, let alone the remnents that they have left. Do I detect a hint from Hart's comments that he doesn't know if he will be able to appoint a replacement as theres no cash???!!!
  8. And to make matters worse for the blue few, they now appear to be struggling to land free transfers!!!! http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2578733/Viduka-deal-may-be-sunk.html
  9. A very valid point about the lower leagues, and I think the same applies to the Scottish leagues. McCormack was well regarded up here before his move to Cardiff and because the Scottish clubs are now struggling with the Setanta collapse, there are not many clubs that could refuse a half decent offer.
  10. Thats because Burnley were playing St Johnstone yesterday, the Kilmarnock game was on Thursday.
  11. Well the 'lead boot' managed both goals yesterday against Rangers, very dissappointing!!! Still only attracting an attendance of 9018 against one of Britain's bigger teams will do nothing to help the coffers, especially as most of the fans were Rangers. On another note, if the takeover is over then that surely puts to bed the chances of their 40,000 capacity stadium for the world cup bid. Wonder if Herr Libherr has been in touch with the bid committee to offer SMS as a replacement?
  12. But if you had a job offer, but in the background possibly had another offer coming at a higher level & potentially on a higher salary (possibly double what we have offered if he goes to a CCC club) then wouldn't you wait? Whilst it is frustrating, his agent is only trying to get him the best deal. Th fact that he's foreign has nothing to do with it as any British player would be as bad. The good news is the season starts this weekend so that should push him into making a quick decision.
  13. I believe he was linked with Hearts at the weekend but I've not heard anything further

Some interesting observations Clapham Saint and FWIW I don't think you're that wide of the mark. Interesting that according to the Guardian this morning, Harry appears to be contradicting the Pompey line that a £10m fee has been agreed for Crouch. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jul/27/peter-crouch-tottenham-transfer-bid Could it be that he'll play hard ball with Pompey to get the price down (seeing as they can't get the £12m they wanted). If the guy doesn't have the money & Gaydemak is getting his money out through player sales then I can't see Pompey lasting v long if the rumour that Gaydemak is taking half the Sky TV money as well is true. Their income will be very little and although the wage bill will be reduced, they will have considerable losses. They are truely on a slippery slope.
  15. IMO, its a case of 2 & 3 possibly causing 1. He now has a manager who will actually manage the team & install some discipline, both on & off the field. Combined with playing a formation that suits his style of play, and possibly a feeling that he is wanted (which would be a first for about 2 years), I would expect his performances to improve. Interesting, and a contrast to his apparant dis-interest at training on Monday when Pilchards was reporting on AP's first session. If he enjoying it again then maybe he will be inclined to stay - after all, I seem to remember someone commenting on a thread at the end of last season saying he was settled in the area (?).
  16. Thats the nail on the head for me. Whilst I think Tisdale will be a good manager, and go beyond what Exeter can offer - the time is just not right for him to come to Southampton. As AP has indicated, there is a massive amount of work to do with this squad in a very short space of time & his extra experience will count for a lot. AP is a very strong character and he is what the squad needs right now, I'm not sure Tisdale would have provided that.
  17. Shame, guess that will mean we are stuck with Pulis until January at least.
  18. And proper preparation has only been happening in the last 2 days. As I (and a few others) stated on another thread, Pardew has picked up immediately on a lack of a winning mentality which should be ingrained in the club. He is not going to turn this around overnight, he has 5 years worth (or since WGS left) of mis-management to sort out. Yes we should be beating Totten, Eastleigh, Bournemouth, Cheltenham & Salisbury - 3 draws & 2 defeats isn't good enough & thats why pardew is now here. He is going to need time - this is a bigger job than many think & I include Pardew in that judging by some of his comments!!
  19. Whilst I wasn't there on Saturday so won't comment other than to say 4-1 was a better result than I expected, I was pleased with Pardew's comments about a winning mentality. We have not had that since WGS was in charge. I won't go as far as Derry, but I fully understand where he's coming from re Hendersons comments that the results in pre-season don't matter. Yes the result against Ajax wasn't the be-all & end-all but to draw 3 and lose 1 against Totten, Eastleigh, Bournemouth & Cheltenham does say much about attitudes at the club. And I bet the result mattered to those clubs. This club was built on having players who maybe weren't the best or were slightly past their best but who gave it 110% - and sometimes gave the big boys a bloody nose. All I want is for whoever pulls on the shirt to go out & give it their best - and that means trying to win every game.
  20. But he hasn't been prolific since 2006. If he wants to stay then he needs to come out & show the right attitude to Pardew, but the reports of todays training session do not sound promising....
  21. Great stuff Pichards. Looks an encouraging start, the players are getting exactly what they need - a hard time of it. My only fear is that we are close to the start of the season and there appears to be much work to do. Sounds like AP needs to get an assistant sorted (Kevin Dillon or whoever) so he can also take a look at the other coaching staff and assess whether they are up to it & what roles they are suited to. Wasn't at the game on Saturday so its difficult to assess how accurate Hendersons comments about Wooton are, but it may be that coming from the academy background, he is used to handling situations slightly differently to a seasoned pro.
  22. It would appear that he is being 'linked' with this job in the same way that he was recently 'linked' with the Celtic job. I am pretty sure that his agent will have something to do with this....
  23. LOL - hadn't seen this photo in years!!
  24. Company executives in running company solvently shocker!!! To say that he must not be named 'did us a favour' is stretching the point somewhat. I would suggest he was doing part of what he was paid to do, the other part was to ensure that the playing side functioned effectively & in that he failed.
  25. 'The former Chelsea striker is believed to have had initial talks with representatives of new Swiss owner Markus Liebherr....' (phone rings) JFH: Can I speak with Markus Heibherr MH: Speaking JFH: It's Jimmy-Floyd here, can I apply for the position of manager? MH: No, go away Is how I imagine initial talks might have gone!!
