  1. Tried to find the article on the Guardian website, didn't find it but did find this from yesterday which would support that - Fahim & al-Faraj seem to have fallen out.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/oct/21/portsmouth-sulaiman-al-fahim
  2. SaintRobbie, Whilst I also disagree with 19C's viewpoint of Lowe, I also disagree with yours. I sit in the middle ground - Lowe made lots & lots of mistakes and showed arrogance & contempt for the fans but in no way is he worst football chairman in this country. So please do not make the assumption that because I don't support Lowe that I agree with your viewpoint. Let's move on from this - this season is far too exciting to get dragged down by puerile debates about Lowe.
  3. I believe we are now into phase 2 of AP's plans - he has managed to gel the squad and get it winning, certainly away wins at Southend & Oldham are impressive (both in the top half of the form table despite losing to us). He now needs to keep heads & attitudes in the right place to ensure we keep our run going - something that historically we've not been good at. But history is there to be broken....
  4. IMO, Saga is typical of many footballers in that he is talented but lacks the mentalilty to make it as top class professional, yet believes he should be playing at the highest level. Normally, this sort of attitude is displayed by young professionals who then disappear from the professional game, whilst rarely its displayed by a more senior pofessional (Winston Bogarde being another prime example already mentioned). In answer to the original point, spare a thought for Saga - my only thoughts are what a waste - of talent from Saga's perspective & £8k pw froms Saints perspective. Sadly I can see him loitering around until his contract runs out getting nowhere near the team.
  5. Probably failure to ship out the high earners & combined with a drop in income from customers not attending games - caused by results on the pitch and 'apathy' (insert whatever you feel) towards Lowe
  6. So we can add Peter Storrie to the list at the end of the season Pointless thread but FWIW Lowe is no where near the top of list. George Reynolds (I think that his name) at Darlington would be fairly high up, the guys at Derby when they went into admin would also figure, but top of the list has to be Vladimir Romanov of Hearts. Outside of the UK - as someone has mentioned Gaucci of Perugia, but don't forget Jesus Gil of Athletico Madrid.
  7. Cortese reviewed the wreckage that was our relegation and decided on the path to take, that meant replacing Wotte with Pardew. Notts C reviewed and decided to go with McParland appointing Sven over him. Twelve games later & despite only being 4 points off the top, McParland is sacked - there is a bit of a difference and no irony whatsoever. Imagine what would have happened with the Notts County board in charge at SMS!!!!
  8. Thanks FF. The intention was that he was going to come here before Pearson was appointed - i'd read into it that it was when Pearson was leaving. Now makes sense!!
  9. I think when the thread was started there was a valid debate to be had. That said titling it 'Pardew Out. But When?' was a sensationalist way of titling something that the Sun would have been proud of. Only the original poster knows whether they intended to start this as a true Pardew out campaign so unless they answer we'll neve know. Re-wording the original question raised however (given that it was raised before our last 2 league wins) to 'At what point does Cortese have to make a decision about Pardew given the teams league position? is a valid debate to be had. IMO it will be irrelevant for this season as I think we'll finish mid-table to top half (probably just miss out on the play-offs) and will be in contention for promotion next season. A decision will then need to be made based on what happens and where we finish next season.
  10. I think you probably need to re-read the post that you originally responded to I refer you back to post 18........
  11. Been away but I have to say this is a surprising one - not that he's out on loan but on loan to MK Dons, who are potential rivals for a play-off spot if we make it that far. SG to Donny I fully understand and should give him some confidence that a CCC team wants to take him on loan. Let's hope he comes back and having re-found some form.
  12. Whoa there. Sorry I have been out of the country for some time so missed this thread.... ...Pulis snr was going to come to SMS!!!! What instead of going to the Prem with Stoke????!!!!! er what happened to Pearson being happy in the job under the previous regime? That said FF has to respected but....
  13. Caught a bit on Talksport this morning with a newspaper reporter talking about this (sorry didn't catch who he was or which paper). Said Harry's contract was that he was paid 10% of any profit made by Pompey on any player sold, when they sold Crouch to Aston Villa he was paid half through his wages with tax & NI deducted. The accusation was that the other half was paid offshore direct from Milan Mandaric from a US account to Harry's account in Monaco. MM has apparantly siad that this payment was nothing to do with the Crouch deal. Let's hope some fresh scandal with the revenue will drive away any Saudi interest in buying the Skates.
  14. Oh very close with the prediction Ottery!!
  15. Thanks for the update Phil, you are probably right about Middle Eastern being used in its loosest possible term but then the story was woolier than the average Welsh inhabitant!! There was no substance to it all, mind you it was the Sun, so I suspect it was a rumour from the mate of a taxi-driver who heard about from a fare who read it on the internet!! Still Madjeski is known to want to sell at some point - the question is who would you buy? Reading for £80m with a new stadium (not sure about their training facilities) and a chance of propmotion back to the PL or Pompey for an unknown amount with a dwindling chance of staying in the PL and needing a new stadium & training ground. (The answer at the moment would probably be buy Newcastle!!)
  16. I understand the point you're trying to make, but we shouldn't be signing players on the basis that they are good enough for the reserve team. The reserve team is for those who can't quite force their way in to the first 11 & bench. And we when money was so tight last year, we certainly shouldn't have been signing a player who can't get anywhere near the first 11 unless its the first pre-season friendly of the year. My three, as already stated by many, would be Pulis, Molyneux & Forecast. We sereiously need to get some of the younger fringe players out on loan as well, starting with Lancashire.
  17. I see Reading were linked with a potential 'Middle Eastern' buyout in the Sun this morning. No names of course - but surely a far better prospect if you wanted a club right now.
  18. So will they break even without the re-financing going ahead, or are they dependant on Al Fahim actually finding someone?
  19. Not that I really want to defend Burley in his time as the Scotland manager but not a lot has gone his way during this qualifying campaign. Ignoring refereeing decisions (the penalty they should have had against Macedonia, arguable sending off in Norway & a disallowed goal tonight which should have stood) then you have to question why the SFA chose to play key away games in Macedonia & Norway before the start of the season when the Scottish players had not played a competitive match. You then can't legislate for Chris Boyd then throwing his toys out of his pram cos he didn't get on against Norway, or for McGregor & Ferguson acting like children following their late-night drinking session. The SFA could of, however, backed Burley - something which they have failed to do. The real irony tonight was that David Weir, for whom Burley got slaughtered by the press for not picking to play away at Norway when they lost 4-0 after getting one CB sent-off & the other injured, made the crucial mistake when Holland scored. Still that will be lost on the journalists.... That said he will be sacked - will the SFA be brave enough to ask Strachan if he wants the job before they cut George adrift, otherwise they could be left looking long & hard for a manager. Edit: The other great laugh up here was the other day when the head of the SFA, George Peat, blamed Chris Iwelhumo (sp) for them possibly missing out on qualification - because of a missed open goal against Norway. With friends like him, who needs enemies.
  20. I wonder if their next move will to appoint a dynamic Dutch duo who have never worked together before and try to play total football with a squad whose average age is about 18.....
  21. ...
  22. He could be our most important signing yet. Many have talked (including me) about the losing mentality at the club, WD could be a massive influence on the player regaining the right mentality.
  23. We don't have any strength in depth at the moment, as shown up front on Saturday, but then thats not surprising given Pardew is still working out who his best eleven are. The one place we do have cover now appears to be CB - Jaidi, Trottman, Thomas & Perry - so getting Lancashire out on loan to a L2 or Blue Square Premier team should be a priority. Otherwise in an ideal world we should be looking as strengthening in all other areas. That said, we need to make sure that we only bring in players who will add to the quality of the squad i.e. they're better than we've already got. And surely Pulis must be able to go out on loan somewhere....
  24. Well thanks for continuing to support the team !!! But you're right, there is a depressing familiarity - amongst some of the posters on here. The end of the wold is nigh....
