  1. Confirmed that he's leaving at the end of the season. As others have said, no great loss considering he hadn't played for us for nearly 2 years until the other day. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/counties/hampshire/8746686.stm If he's complaining about commuting to the Rose Bowl from Chelsea, then odd on he moves to Surrey - would probably be quicker to get to the Rose Bowl than Lords from Chelsea!!
  2. So nothing unexpected happened this morning then. To those of you fretting, don't worry. At 81.3% apparently voting for, when AA acknowledged that HMRC had at least 21% of the vote, it shows that AA has massaged the figures. I actually wonder if this is the best result as it allows HMRC the quickest route back to court. We just have to hope that the transfer embargo stays in place pending the appeal.
  3. I was reading this article on the BBC site earlier which highlighted some of problems when they built the stadium in Nelspruit. The village next door, which had its main road used to access the back of the stadium during contruction still has a dirt track as a main road - and no mains electricity or water. Shocking but not surprising given the alleged corruption surrounding the awarding of contracts. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/10217817.stm
  4. Jeez you Nicks!! Tomorrow won't be the end of it for Pompey whichever way it goes - if the CVA gets passed (somehow) then HMRC will be back in court before the 28 day appeal period is out, if the CVA get shot down like a lame duck (mentioning no names) then AA still has time to spout even more rubbish and they won't cease to exist by nightfall. This still has a while to go - plenty of time to hit 30k posts.
  5. Not wanting to be too critical of the Spanish but it does strike me that a midfield of Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta & Xavi Alonso is just too similar, at least Fabregas can break into the box to support the strikers. And how much do they miss Torres?
  6. I'm sure there's enough skill on board...
  7. Good point - would hate to see redflaps getting a cut of another loan fee when he lends them another couple of players.
  8. I just hope that their transfer embargo isn't lifted in the time between AA passing his dodgy CVA and HMRC taking the whole caravan train back to court - otherwise we'll see what happened in January with lots of deals being done to prop them up again.
  9. I fully expect AA to arrange for the CVA to be passed at tomorrow's meeting - he will manipulate the figures so that it goes through by ignoring parts of the HMRC's debt that he doesn't agree with. However it will be back in court when HMRC contest the CVA within the 28 days they have to appeal - and I fully expect a whole world of pain for Pompey & AA to come from that. Then there's the whole matter of the HMRC legal challenge to the PL & FL about the football creditors rule. AA can do what he wants - they have not got away with it yet.
  10. I would expect Pardew to field his strongest side given how early the game comes in relation to the league programme. We'll still (hopefully) be building an unbeaten run and this will help nicely. I don't expect reserve teams until the 2nd round - unless we draw the few.
  11. No he won't, he won't have anyone to call to crow about the goal they got against Brazil!!!
  12. Have to agree with saintjay77, it takes an absolute age to catch up with typing so anything you can do to help with that with be much appreciated.
  13. I can't be bothered to read through everyone else's responses so I may (or may not) be repeating what has already been said. I expect the club to be run at a profit, given the stated goals when the duo came in (my minimum expectation is break-even). If ML decides he wants some of the profit to repay his capital, then I have no issue with that as long as I feel there is sufficient retention of profit to sustain a decent standard of football. What would concern me is if the club started taking on debts to repay ML or allow him to leverege money out of the club. That for me would be a huge no-no and the point that I would have to start protesting. The trouble is, it will be difficult for us as fans to get the confirmation of growing debts occuring, and would probably only get it from the accounts some months after the event. This club should not go into debt again - even if we decided to build a new stadium (again) or expand St marys. That has to be done through orgainc growth or donation by ML - if it can't be done by those two methods then it shouldn't happen.
  14. Exactly - I moved to Edinburgh about 6 years ago. One of the first week's I was up here, one of the local lads had bought 5-6 copies of the Scotman on Sunday paper just because they have out a free DVD of Scotlands 2-1 win at Wembley (which made them the world champions according to most jocks!). I (and all the other English guys in the office) came in to free DVD on our desks! I have to say its mostly good natured banter though - if you're realistic about England then they tend to leave you alone. Did watch the England v USA game in town at the Walkabout and have to say it was packed with about a 50/50 split in support and lots of good natured banter flying about - must confess, I feel happier out an about in Edinburgh than Glasgow but despite that I wouldn't wear a shirt out in town although there were plenty who did.
  15. What would be interesting to track would be any offers for players that AA has refused - and then keep adding on that players weekly wage to find the break even value . Compare it what that player is eventually sold for - might start to show some of AA's liability in this mess. Should be able to get the players wage (roughly) from the CVA doc, so can anyone remember any of the offers that AA has turned down?
  16. Ah, it's always good to start the new week knowing that delusion still exists at the east end of the M27 Nope, still not quite grasped it yet!!
  17. Yep agreed - still should win the last 2 & hopefully qualify top of group on either goal diff or USA drawing another game. If we can top the group the we still have a decent route to the SF IMO, but need to do a whole lot better. Still the Italians are past masters at drwing group games & getting the final so maybe Fabio knows something. & Remember Argentina in 1990 finished 3rd in the group & got to the final. No one wins the WC in the group stages, only lose it. Slovenia & Algeria are beatable, even by us!!
  18. Carsten Jancker - back up for Lambert
  19. Heard Mansell had a puncture although tough place to crash at Indianapolis. Quick question for anyone in the know, how do ou qualify for Le Mans - I presume there are more entries than can start so how does it work?
  20. Question for the admins: do you know what time the upgrade is planned for? Just like to know so I can plan when to check in about threads moaning about a lack of anything really Thanks
  21. No great surprises really. Of as much interest is the note on the ticker on the right hand side: SLPsport - Charlton can't match S****horpe's contract offer to Chris Dagnall, meaning they miss out on the Rochdale striker Shows how skint Charlton are if they're losing out to S****horpe!! Regarding Vassell, sure HCDAJFU but he's never been prolific, even at his best with Villa he was only a one in three man but then he has played all of his football at the top flight. He has struggled in Turkey last season (not Greece) but as someone stated that was largely due to financial problems at the club.
  22. They had a £6m cash injection when a Malaysian business man took a 30% stake in the club, part of the deal was Ridsdale to stand down. They knew that they were going to get that injection hence why HMRC allowed the extension. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/8733967.stm Although it makes me laugh that a billionaire only has £800m these days, tsk these billionaires just ain't what they used to be - think that might be called the Pompey effect!!!!
  23. With regards to the website updates, do we still have full control? When we were in the PL, we had & ran our own website. When we were relegated, I thought we decided to cut costs & join the FL generic site which is run centrally on behalf of all of the FL clubs. How much input does the club get in timing these releases on the website?
  24. If he was out of contract at the end of last season, and Reading have kept him on - why now send him out on loan again. If that was the case then surely Antonio wouldn't have signed a new deal. My bet is he either stays with Reading or gets sold - in which case Charlton don't have any money (unless we buy Bailey of course).
  25. McArthur wants PL football so he's in the Ledley bracket and out of reach at the moment.
