  1. Ah a French team, I went onto the websites of all of the top league Swiss clubs this afternoon looking for pre-season friendlies - no sign of Saints playing anyone.
  2. Well they would get rid of the sparrow but imagine the noise a pair of them would make at 4 in the morning!! Gawd then the OP would have to ring the RSPB and ask if can shoot them with anti-aircraft missile. Other options would be releasing a 30 ft Anaconda in the loft or letting out a pair of lions to climb up your house. I'd put up with the sparrow if I were you!
  3. Well that's a well researched article: that well known Dutch car-maker Skyper??? WTF I think they mean Spyker - they tend to move faster than Frankfurt based skyscrapers!!! Other than that, well written & accurate. hmmm we'll see.
  4. Hmm you would think that Poyet knows a bit more about South American football than he who cannot be named.
  5. No bother - although I would expect a commentator to get it right!!
  6. Well, there you go, you've answered your own question so the point of this thread is what? Ah, bring up points to moan about that have been already covered in numerous threads already. Season ticket holders not getting 'their' seat has happened in previous seasons but this one we'll moan about it. Get a grip.
  7. That is exactly the reason that the players don't have any defence. Under Sven, the whole squad was run without any discipline and its showed. After Sven was replaced with Steve McClaren and he messed up qualifying - most people called for someone to instill some discipline and control the ego's in the squad - enter Fabio. But now that the wrong way to go! I think that Terry will have played his last game for England - he simply isn't quick enough for international football and can't cover for his lack of pace with positional awareness, let alone his off the field antics. He obviously has one of the bigger ego's within the squad so won't be a loss from that perspective. SandwichSaint mentioned earlier that we won't win a world cup until we have a core of 6-8 players playing abroad, and I would agree. This would help the players skill levels compared to the British game and also teach them mentally to prepare properly rather than one training session a day then you can go and do what you want.
  8. Good blogs as always - but can we get the Dutch goalkeepers name right, it's Stekelenburg not Van Stekelenburg, Simon Brotherton seems to have the same problem on the BBC commentary
  9. The other alternative is Jack Wilshire of Arsenal - but it would take a complete change in direction from England management to pick him. That said, he has to be in the squas together with some of the other u-21 players who got us to the Euro u-21 final last summer (yes, we got beat by the Germans). We also have the u-17 side who I believe have just won the Euro Championship for their age group earlier this summer so there is some hope.
  10. To be fair Ron, I thought Chile might give Brazil a few problems but to be honest, after seeing that, I can't see anyone stopping them although a Brazil v Argentina final would be an exciting prospect. If Arjen Robben isn't a statue on Friday when Brazil play Holland, I'll give it 15 minutes before he does his hamstring again chasing after the Brazilians!!
  11. haha That raises two questions 1) how are the vast extensions coming on at each of their properties? and 2) have they negotiated a 10% cut in a brown paper bag when they sell 1976_childs registration to UI?
  12. I've had the same problem as well so thanks for the tip Bob - seems to be ok now.
  13. Well Pearce has done a reasonable job with the u-21's taking them to the Euro Championship finals last year (when we got beaten 4-0 in the final by Germany). The problem is that the last time we groomed someone for the job was McClaren (under Sven). Redknapp would be the popular choice (with everyone except Pompey & Saints fans as someone on Talksport commented this morning) but for me Hodgson has the experience and knowledge of manaing abroad. Sorry there's no-one else with a Saints connection other than Redknapp.
  14. Thats ONE outfield change from the gash that has just allegedly played for our nation yesterday!!! and you want us to play the same way?? Try: -------------------Hart----------------- Johnson--Jagielka--Ferdinand--A Cole ----------Rodwell---Wilshire----------- --Walcott------Gerrard------ J Cole-- -----------------Rooney---------------- I put Rooney, Gerrard & Ashley Cole in on the basis they need a major kick up the arse - the full back positions are open - is there a better right back out there? There must be, but just can't think of him at the moment.
  15. Ok - try this one ------------------Hart--------------------- --Johnson--Jagielka--Cahill--Warnock-- -------------Parker---Rodwell------------ --Milner---------Osman--------Young--- ----------------Agbonlahor--------------- Players from the top 5 that I would consider bringing in: Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Hargreaves, Carrick, Gerrard, Wilshire, Walcott, Joe Cole & Rooney - would give the basis of a decent squad with the 11 selected above.
  16. Agree with this but Brooking has to be part of the clearout as well. He is the one who is advocating our kids playing 11 aside football on full size pitches at eleven years old. How does that help? They need small sided games (5 or 7) on small pitches with the emphasis on coaching skills. I was listening to the radio yesterday & one of the Blackburn youth coaches phoned in, he bans his goalkeeper from kicking the ball out of his hands when they play 7 aside on a small pitch. He then gets the receiving player to do a trick before passing the ball on. It breeds confidence of playing in tight situations. The problem is that teams he play against our coached to shoot on sight as its a small pitch - one team even coached their goalkeeper to shoot! Until the coaching system is sorted in this country nothing will get better.
  17. Yes, it's normally a 20 second penalty thats applied - which is roughly the equivalent time loss as a drive-thru penalty so 5 seconds is somewhat bizarre. Certainly Fernando was not a happy boy, although hearing his frustration did make me laugh.
  18. Been handed 5 second penalties - so the podium remains unchanged. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8766250.stm Re Webbers incident, I know they mentioned it in commentary but that's the 2nd time he's flipped a car after he did at Le Mans down the Mulsanne Straight and ended up putting it in the trees - although that was just the effect of airflow getting under the nose of the car at high speed.
  19. THe cull needs to be deeper than just the manager & players. This has to be the time for the 'old fart' FA executives to be put out the graze, get people in who care about the game & know what they are doing - and I'm not talking about Trevor Brooking. They need to grab the game by its balls - stop pandering to the PL and get control of the game for the good of the game. Whoever made the decision to re-write Capello's contract should be shot quite frankly! Then forget about the 2018 bid and concentrate on sorting the game in this country. How can footballers who pull on an England shirt not be able to pass a football. It's a disgrace. We need to build for the future, get the under 21 squad & promote the lot of them.
  20. Whilst I knew he was part of the squad for the 1966 WC squad & played against Mexico, I must confess I didn't realise he scored 7 goals in 19 internationals - including a hat-trick! Hell of a good record for a winger.
  21. But what an incentive for us - no further motivation should be required to get the team going now. Germany (Italia 90/Euro 96), then Argentina (Mexico 86) and then Portugal (Euro 2004/Germany 2006) - what an opportunity!!
  22. Don't worry, it's been quoted incorrectly on here a few times. As I said it's a pedant thing!!
  23. Call me a pedant if you want, but the loan came from Standard Bank of South Africa - not Standard Chartered who are completely different.
  24. I think that Davis will start the season as number 1, Bart will get games in the League Cup & JPT and if Davis gets injured then I would be surprised if Bart does not usurp him and take the number 1 spot permanently. That said, I still think we should be trying to get someone like Kasper Schmeichel as he's available (admittadly will probably go to team in a higher division) as he would be a very good long term bet that would stay with us all the way to the PL.
  25. Look like they are back in trouble with HMRC again, I thought they'd resolved everything but apparently not... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/preston/8757029.stm
