1) The Echo probably does not have investigative journalists because, as you mentioned, the internet is killing newspapers so therefore there are cutbacks. 2) Even the best sports journalists are unlikely to have a member of a local Borough council rep who will call them up with the news. 3) The only reason it was short is because the news agency that provides it only published six paragraphs to websites.

I'm sorry but all you people saying 'they could of just waited one day' would be the same people that would say 'look at the Echo printing old news - we knew about that days ago.' The majority of people seem to hold a grudge against the Echo so whatever they did would be wrong anyway. As for the club, they are being pathetic. It is a public document, hence why it was published in other media documents. Journalism is produced for the people not the decision makers. Wake up Saints.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've seen. Brilliant. ps. Don't buy it.

Maybe true but then again in my lifetime he is a Saints legend. No manager can hold a candle to him since I began following the club 14 years ago.
-
I don't totally agree with that. The reason I started the thread is because it is about a Saints legend. Yes, he may have gone and the post is about Boro but it centres on Strachan. There are plenty of posts on this section which are about former players and staff.

Great news for us. Spent a long time watching Rotherham last season and on their day can be a very, very good side indeed. But, as last night proved, now and again they are absolute turd. Bring on the non-leaguers all the way to Wembley.

I've just got home from covering Middlesbrough's thrashing at the hands of Blackpool at the Riverside. And I must say the game was one of the worst performances I've seen by a Championship side, especially one of the supposedly promotion challengers. What made it more shocking was that, for a Strachan team, the squad was totally bereft of work-rate, dedication and passion. Now I know it took a while for him to find his feet at St Mary's but I can't help but feel he has an uphill battle at Boro. And I think he realises it, too. After the match he looked extremely downbeat. He even apologised to the journalists for repeating the same old claptrap about inconsistency, etc. And I couldn't help but get the feeling he wasn't particularly enjoying it there. He didn't have the same passion he seemed to have at Saints. Or even Celtic, for that matter. I hope I'm wrong and I hope he manages to turn it around but I can't help but feel our beloved WGS may be on to a wrong 'un up there unless he gets some filthy January lucre. ps. Ian Holloway is barking mad. Managed to get Ronseal and Bjorn Borg into the same post-match interview. That is some talent.

Jury's Inn is good; stayed there the other week. I'd recommend etap but, as you said, it's fully booked. Travelodge is supposed to be pretty good, too. And, if I'm correct, there are two of them in the city centre.

No. The reason it is on that site is because the Press Association spotted the info on this forum.

It is really insightful. Sort of.

Shotgun! I'll write that, leave it to me guys.

Cortese offers you £5m on Jan 1st...what would you do?

Offloading the deadwood should be out first port of call. Then sign young, hungry players who would bolster the squad and be able to play at Championship level sooner rather than later. Antonio would fit the bill, as would Sam Vokes. I think an experienced head like Matt Oakley would be the right signing for a potential promotion push then Championship campaign, I just doubt Leicester would let him go. And as for Adam Le Fondre, he would be a good purchase but won't be going and as for the move for Saejis, it just won't happen. -
Yes. Thinking about it, I reckon I added him when I'd had a bevvy or two and thought it could be an interesting insight into a mediocre footballer's mind. He joins the likes of Daniel Gabiddon, James Collins and Jozy Altidore on that list.

For some odd reason I follow Walsall striker Darren Byfield on twitter. Anyway, he just posted a quite interesting assessment on Saints, especially considering they've played most of the big boys this season. @Darren_Byfield "Classed as an own goal, but hey I aint complaining its my 100th goal so ill take it,wish we got 3 points, but they r the best side we have Played this season n I expect them 2 go up" If a fellow professional is complimenting us off his own back after a defeat we must be good.

If he's free and on cheap wages why not sign a proven defender with international experience?
-
Firstly, having watched the match on TV, I too disagree with the ratings. But secondly your comments are ridiculous and rather offensive. Of course journalists are people like 'us'. Fair enough television pundits are normally former players but how many working in the written press are former pros? Very, very few indeed. Journalists are people like 'us.' And that's what journalism is about. Giving a voice to ordinary people. And sports journalism is no different. Anyway what has really riled me is your comment about university or college students. Who cares, mate? The point of these courses is to teach people how to be good journalists, using modern techniques while also gaining old-school journalists’ experience. If this wasn’t the case then the media would instead be full of the sons and daughters of rich so-and-sos. Would you prefer that? Now I’m no class warrior but without those courses you mentioned I would have struggled to get into the media. I’m not from the most affluent of backgrounds so I chose to do a journalism degree. It gave me the chance to fulfil my dream: to become a sports journalist. Nevertheless, I don’t pretend to know it all because, like all of you, I realise I’m just a regular fan. But I’m a fan in a position that can better inform other fans. That is how I see my job and that is why I chose to become a sports journalist. When I took the job I knew that I would also be taking the poor pay, the debts and all the abuse that comes with it. But what I refuse to take is stupid comments like those. If you want something to moan about try the European Union, political correctness or how good things used to be. Rant over.

I'd like to apologise on behalf of Press Association for this. I work there and I'm in the office now. Just told those involved about the mistake - they looked pretty embarassed. If I was further up the hierachy I'd put a rocket up them... Anyway, rest assured that there will be fewer mistakes while I'm writing the copy. In fact, there will be much more Saints coverage if I have my way. -
So sorry to hear the news. My thoughts are with you Ron.

Goof luck Doddy.

Get well soon Chris

I was at the match and he was class. Very good performance considering he was just drafted in. No signs of injury, which makes a change.

Give it a rest. You're embarassing yourself.
