I would definitely be prepared to take a cut in the short term to preserve my employment. Putting something in without the expectation of getting anything in return is a fundamental of good service and underpins many great businesses. On a different tack over here in Brisbane team captain (and Australian Rugby League icon) Darren Lockyer is this week reported as having taken a pay cut to improve the wages on offer to the junior squad members and targets of the Brisbane Broncos. No player 'has to' do this. Some just do. Kids shelling out their pocket money into buckets to pay our players salaries - Jeez.

The Stadium, is about all. And that is an asset for the city ultimately, that the club can use. Everything else he touched was a total disaster.

Absolutely spot on. Been saying it ever since they rattled the first bucket. Some of them should take a long hard look at their chances of landing contracts elsewhere if we go under. Some of them really aren't very good footballers.

Who Else is Preparing for the Worst?
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
What we're going through is scary and unpleasant but ultimately I think a better option than more barren years of following a club being ground into the dirt by Rupert Lowe. If we do go under at least it will be quick. I couldn't have suffered following the Saints too much more after the last 6 years anyway. Hopefully we'll come out into the light of a new era ready to compete again with players who care and leadership we can get behind. I used to support Newport County. **** happens - but you get over it. -
Disgusting.....our players that is!!!
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Gingeletiss's topic in The Saints
Most of them won't be our players too much longer anyway. If we survive hope we get some who understand the balance between putting in and taking out. And aren't total gimps at soccer too. I'd take two or three back, but that would be tops. -

Our players turned out to be ridiculously overpaid for their demonstrated level of ability. There was absolutely no way I was putting money in a bucket to pay their wages. If they ****ed off as a result I would have taken my boots along to SMS, played for free, and done no worse a job. -
Exclusive - Open Letter to Fans From New Owner...
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
Phil Connors is not the name of the new owner -
We all need to vent right now. It's been a **** few years right enough. Those of us who castigated Burley and Lowe from very early on have been totally vindicated. That is all I want to say before moving on.

League deduct 10 Points - Will apply in L1 Next Season
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Danny's topic in The Saints
Starting on -10 shouldn't make much difference as long as we get a buyer. We should be able to put together a strong enough squad to compete at top/middle level. Promotion was never really going to be likely so in that rspect it's not relevant and I would think we should be able to finish at least 10 points above the drop zone. -
New owners call. Hopefully Wotte won't even know most of next season's playing squad as I don't want to see most of this season's lot in a Saints shirt ever again. Clear out required.

Saints 2-2 Burnley Post Match Reaction - Saints Relegated
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
Now it's all about getting a good new owner and avoiding starting the season on -25. If we can do this and hang on to two or three players from this years squad (2 or 3 would be abut the lot) and rebuild, we can avoid League 2. -
Whatever happens on the pitch today
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Amesbury Saint's topic in The Saints
Let's get this straight. If we manage to win today (pretty unlikely given both our home form and current form, and Burnley's need for the win), and beat Forest (away, on sky) and other results go our way, and we successfully appeal the 10 point deduction, and find a buyer - we get to play Championship football again next season. Yay. What the **** is there to be positive about? -
We will not own SMS - never did, probably never will. If a buyer can't be found then it will revert to the mortgage holder. They will look to maximise revenues from it by renting it out to a number of parties, including a League 1 football club based in Southampton. Now who might that be......

League deduct 10 Points - Will apply in L1 Next Season
Kingsbridge Saint replied to Danny's topic in The Saints
Take it on the chin I guess - we were 1/14 to go down anyway and realistically we were unlikely to come straight back up anyway. Even our turd of a side should be able to avoid relegation to League 2 - even with a 10 point deduction. Now a 25 point deduction would be something to worry about...... Focus is now on survival as a club and starting again with a decent rental agreement in place for playing at SMS with the new stadium owner - whoever that turns out to be. -
Desperately poor effort. We have worked hard for this relegation and we will not be denied it at this late stage. Maybe the winning side from the forum game could play the Forest game if we are already down by then? Couldn't do much worse.
-
Agreed it isn't over yet. But we need to win 2 very difficult matches with one of the worst teams in English football. Unlikely I would say.
-
Never thought we would have a hope by now but we have. Let's go to Wednesday with some heart. A win there and we have a real punchers chance.
-
Never over till it's mathematically over. But I have had no hope since before Christmas. We are one of the worst teams in English football.
-
The idea of our fans paying money for footballers to continue to take their grossly inflated salaries when a lot of them are struggling to put food on the table - it makes me sick. The players should voluntarily play for free for a while before that happens - I know a few of them are.

Aviva must love Barclays. Liquidating the Holding company surely means a sale of the stadium at a value equivalent to the future income it can yield? And that's going to be way short of book value - and more importantly the amount Aviva are owed and against which I am guessing they have the stadium as security? You owe the bank £10,000 you have a problem. You owe the bank £10M they have a problem.

We are in a better place than this time last week as we have, at last, been relieved of Lowe. He was never going to walk so it had to be administration. And it's not Class War. I say that as a Chartered Accountant in my mid forties. It's not over yet this season - but I have thought for a while we are going down. So yesterday changes little in that respect. As was said somewhere else, despite the new found optinimism following Lowe's departure, you can't polish a turd. A rebuild from League 1 looks very achievable with a new investor - and we must be a bargain right now.

Queensland Roar. Brisbane Broncos.

Newport County ceased to exist in 1983
-
You're an optimist then? Being a realist I would say that if we do get stuffed for the 10 points the fact is that it will be next season, as you say. By which time (if we still exist) we are likely to be playing in League 1 anyway. We are 1/2 on to go down.
-
Points deduction or not - if there's no money to pay the bills the players aren't going to be around very long. Anyone got some boots and a free afternoon Saturday?
