  1. I liked the sound of Jan when he was appointed. I liked what he had to say when interviewed. I was impressed by his remarks on Radio Solent's "Saints Fans Forum" and his post match comments this season. I am thrilled with the result his team achieved today! OK, it's one game only, but I sure feel happier about Saints than I have for over a year. Well done lads AND all the travelling fans.(You sounded in great voice on the radio.)
  2. If there is any money from the Davies transfer to pay for incoming low cost/free transfer wages I hope it will be spent wisely. Have never seen Pulis minor play, but from reports and comments on this forum he would appear not to meet our requirements, to put it politely.
  3. I still suspect that this transfer was another Agent inspired. IMO agents are well aware of hidden clauses in player contracts to which we are not. Minimum acceptable offer to get released to Prem Club. "Oh, that's right Mr P; make that your best and final offer and the boy's yours. Of course there will be a nice little earner for me so I will insist he moves and I will feed a story to my mate at the Daily Globe to say how he hates being down there now." I am sure that Davies will be missed, but I remember a comment from the RAF officer in charge of my section just before I finished National Service (long ago!!) "When someone becomes indispensable, it is time to get rid of them."
  4. As this appears to be my 100th post (for the second time after many disappeared in the recent move!) I dont want to be too controversial, but I share the views of John B on this thread. If Andrew Davies really is worth £3million, why has no team come in with an offer at that figure? Since it appears he made noise in the Press himself-or his agent perhaps- other interested parties could have made a counter offer to that from Stoke. Secondly, did he come from 'Boro with a track record of injuries? I vaguely remember reading a comment posted on TSF. Im uncertain; someone may Know. High Earner who does not want to be here?
  5. Unfortunately, when you are £30 million in the red (and still rising?) you do as your bank tells you. When told to SELL you can't argue. When the Club's income is a Pound and the outgoings are reduced to 19/6d, things might look up. In my opinion we are reaping the results of well over a decade of Boardroom failure and self interest going back long before RL arrived.
  6. Let's hope you are right about that. If Rudi S was worth a million if he went to Ipswich, then surely Davies must be worth twice that; especially to a premiership club. (Even one that will be back down next year.) ps If Davies were to refuse to go- assuming this RUMOUR has foundation- would Davies be sent to train with the kids?
  7. Best Post of the week. Thanks Phil! A very good reality check for us all.
  8. At the risk of also being pedantic, may I suggest that members of this forum are not the best placed to criticise other people's spelling? The many versions of "definitely" and "disappointing" come to mind!!
  9. If Davies goes for £1.5million then we are definitely on the slippery slope to oblivion. I'd like to downgrade my optimistic vote in that case. Of course the Banks may insist, whatever the Club (PLC!) may wish. That shows just how deep in the mire we have reached.
  10. Optimistically, I chose promotion, because I even hoped for that with HR and GB although I was suitably disillusioned in a short time. Hopefully, the players will realise that we have high hopes and expectations this year!!
  11. Well the slugs in my garden must be supercharged, so that's all right then......... Did we not have a promising winger who was converted to left back and went on to play for England? Somewhere Surman was quoted as saying he was happy to play anywhere provided he was in the team; Mind that was probably the O.S. which imo needs taking with a pinch of salt. (like the slugs).
  12. I read somehere the comment, "Hatred does more damage to the hater than it does to the hated." Any Brum fan looking in to this thread must be laughing at the thought their team will have an easy win against a team with a very divided "fanbase" so the atmosphere is not going to be hostile to them. The Brum official site quotes a confident McLeash as saying he expects a win on Saturday. Our emotions and efforts ought to be on doing our best to help the players and manager give the Blues a rude awakening and a blue feeling on their way back North!
  13. So, Exeter 0, Southampton 3 and please hope I am not tempting fate.
  14. I've been excited about the new season every year since about 1947. That is the triumph of hope over experience, for sure. I certainly feel happier than after the Palace debacle last year. Hopefully this optimism will still be there after the Cardiff game!
  15. That will do nicely, thank you! I share your optimism.
