The ten/ fifty/ hundred/ best, worst, longest, heaviest, highest, lowest, dearest, cheapest, whatever; it is simply idle, cheap journalism requiring no imagination, little research, no top quality writer. Oh, well it is the "Sun" being discussed and I'm not sure why we bother. Did they give a full report of our great win on Saturday? That would have been a better use of column inches.

David Burnside was a real football artist in the early sixties when I could get to the Dell often. A hero then and respectfully remembered now. Some of the other names of Saints players mentioned in this thread invoke wonderful memories too, but for me, DB was an icon of stylish football.

There was the bloke who sold the Goldstone Ground for Brighton. But imo RL would def be in top 10.

McMenemy - one of the UK's most successful managers?

This thread makes an enjoyable read, but I am waiting for the day when we can add the name Pardew to the list of greatest. Within five years? -
One day soon, we will go into matches not just hoping for a win, but expecting to win. :):) If I predict a win, we will probably lose as happened once before on this web so I have to keep my thoughts to myself.

First read the Football Echo in about 1947 and we used to go down to the West Cowes Red Funnel terminal, then called Fountain Pier to wait for the Football Echo to arrive on the ferry. If I remember correctly, the right money was needed to get a copy before the man took them to the shop. Half an hour late if it was the slow boat from Royal Pier. Cold place to wait! Until I left the Island, the F.E. was a wonderful source of info about local teams with match reports, team news and league tables as well as Saints comments. Another bit of the old days bites the dust, then.

After five or maybe six years of rapid deterioration, we are at last on the way back up! From the radio, fans sounded fantastic. Was that a drumbeat too? Well done.
-
Barnard and Mvoto's being doubtful is probably a bit of spin to lull the opposition. Expect them to play! I won't, however, complain if they fail the fitness test. Provided our first choice central defenders are up for it, all will be well.

Enough to keep him out for 18 months, apparently. But signed in time to play Friday after 3 weeks training with us. Could be a good one:)
-
Thanks Weston, for putting that so eloquently. I too hope that young Pulis has a successful loan spell and it leads on to a favourable and prosperous career.

In answer to the original question, posts 5 and 6 TDD and Lordswood were spot on. "So Far." There is still hope though, but I am getting very worried.
-
Good point; but will that be too late? Is our team selection right? Should we play 4-4-2? Why do we have no width or pace? It is all too depressing:(
-
Thanks for that link, TDD. I must confess to having had a good laugh at the sub-literate replies you enjoyed. I had never looked at their sites before and have concluded that those P***** fans never enjoyed the benefits of 11 years full time education. They must have been bunking off.

I so hope that you are right. Loving the optimism.

So, why DID Mark Fry prefer Pinnacle over Liebherr?
wightman35 replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
The comments made by NC last night confirm that all the nightmares of the summer months when daily searches on this site showed little progress in the buyout nearly became reality. We are so fortunate that we ended up with an owner at all and not liquidated. Impressed by all three panel members last night. (Well done Radio Solent too!) -
I am too scared to predict a win as when I did so last season we lost in a bad way.:(So for all our sakes, I will keep quiet. ......but, hopeful.
-
Fed up with absolutely NO decent Saints coverage on local radio...
wightman35 replied to Gordon Mockles's topic in The Saints
That sums up "Solent" exactly, in my opinion. After all, it must be cheaper to have a lot of old grannies 'phoning in than paying a professional sports reporter to give a considered comment. As others have said, we have lost the 20 past the hour sports news in the afternoons, but in the mornings the 20 past slot for sport has shrunk and can be on anywhen up to the half hour, but rarely on time. I reckon its gone downhill since Mia whatever became controller. Adam Blackmore's commentary is ok when he does it, but I don't go a bundle on the others. So.... the answer is. Go and buy a ticket for Saturday. -
This is so true! You have surely written the post of the week. let us hope AP gets the team up for it this Saturday. I cannot see Yeovil being a pushover, as some of us dream.
-
Thank you Shurlock and all the other posters who have sent in well informed comments on the game which you have clearly watched. I am glad that you enjoyed the game. (most of it!). Not being able to attend in person, the opinions of those present enable the absentees to get a fair view rather than be engulfed by the vitriolic babble that appears from some who never go.
-
Most happy since today's announcements re Jaidi and Papa. AP has achieved wonders in such a short time. I agree with most of the sentiments on this thread- nice to see nearly everyone positive. Now all we need are two quick work permits granted and a load of wins, starting on Saturday.
-
Thanks Chrisobee for a well thought out post. I still hope AP gets the players he wants in on loan- to add pace.
-
We didn't.................... WGS did it!
-
Mostly, yes; but beware the grammar/spelling police who have to patrol this site 24/7. :D:D:D Oh and there is a split infinitive on page two! .....and get well soon Graeme Murty. We were all mugged last night.
-
Precisely.
