  1. Onwards and upwards!
  2. I agree with you. Also, there seems to be no agreement among posters as to whether the armbands were for Armistice Day commemoration or a specific local event as Rovers were bereft of black armbands.
  3. It is the "barely" bit we like.
  4. Well said!
  5. I don't think his title is "manager" or "principal," "director" or even "head ....." of the academy so it could be that JD is only one cog in the wheel.
  6. Sounds promising!
  7. Best wishes to Kevin and his family. Kevin Moore; a real Saints hero!
  8. One win at a time, please. We must not assume that any team will be a pushover. L.O. on Saturday is a case in point. Luckily, I reckon A.P. and staff will have the team fully focussed!
  9. I am not allowed to predict a win/score as when I did last year it went horribly wrong and we lost. This season, when I posted that I felt POSITIVE, however, we have won. So, this week, I am feeling positive! :D:D:D
  10. This is a very positive thread. We seem to have a wealth of options this year. It is interesting to read the wide variety of choices posters have suggested. I look forward to reading A.P's selection. I wonder if he does his thinking on this site? Is somebody posting above A.P. ? Only joking!
  11. In other words, we are stuck with them? We could perhaps buy out their contracts but that is expensive. Maybe less costly than keeping unsettled staff.
  12. Are we going to send the lists to Santa? Getting our loanees on contracts would be good. Off loading unwanted "presents" as carefully wrapped parcels to other clubs may not be seasonally generous but would leave a warm glow around here!
  13. Absolutely right there eelpie. Eric Day on the right wing! Don Roper was sold to Arsenal by us when we were second division, but, as you tell, he returned as a veteran to help restore our fortunes.
  14. Many happy memories revived by the above posts of players. I did not see many (any) goalies mentioned, yet we have had some magnificent ones over the years. I always liked watching Ian Black. Believe he went to Fulham later. Some of our defenders were mighty in the old second division; Bill Ellerington, Eric Webber and Bill Rochford (Captain and left back-dodgy previous club?) were some that deserve a mention. Charlie Wayman had a cafe near Civic Centre and the Bus Station, so we used to stop off on way to Dell from the Royal Pier and the IW ferry.
  15. Please work on your spelling of "definitely." :):) But I thought your post was a good one!
  16. Thanks Zigsdad. A great post to follow your offering after the open training. In fact both the poster reports from that day were excellent and informative.
  17. I seem to remember that we were 8 points clear at the new year 1949. I may recollect wrongly, but I thought that by Easter the lead had been eroded. At the end of the Season I saw a couple of games which we should have won, but did'nt and our chance was blown. Sad journey back to the Island!
  18. So far, over 50 people have answered "Yes" to the question, then. Yet another strange management decision in terms of timing. I hope and believe that AP will still be here for the long term. Nigel Pearson would be a good choice for 'Borough, as well as giving MM a headache.
  19. For me, the lowest point for the club was the month waiting for the Pinnacle fiasco to unfold and particularly the days leading up to their collapse. In football terms, sacking Pearson and most of last season has to be there, but especially the capitulation in the run up to certain relegation. Luckily (thanks ML and NC and of course AP and team) we can now expect rather than just hope.
  20. History, I am told, is written by those who win the war. Rupert Lowe (twice relegated  ) lost. For the rest of us, we are on our way up.:D
