Most footballers would of tried flicking that with there right foot,far easier moving forward with his body at the shape it was to try and help it on rather than try wrapping his left foot around the ball.

100% that ball was easier to take on his right root Taking that chance on his right foot was 100% the right thing to do.a very high percentage of players would of done exactly that
