The Return of Matt Le Tissier - an American view of our Saints legend
Graffito replied to Seany S's topic in The Saints
Aside from the exquisite goals take a look at the faces and body language of the defenders after Matt hits the back of the net. It's like, htf are we supposed to stop him. -
Now the relatively good reputation of out club gets linked with thuggery elsewhere when the sensible thing would have been for those affected by the anti- social behaviour to have had a quiet word with the stewards who would have dealt with it without Saints fans getting involved.

Then you may count yourself as very fortunate because it was horrific. At no time throughout the 80's was I deterred from attending any match I wanted to attend but my biggest fear was always a crowd surge on overcrowded terraces with no escape because of the fences that were erected routinely at football grounds. Hillsborough was an accident waiting to happen.

Ricklambert. Thanks for the link. I read you're match report which I think is good. Have you considered writing for other blogs, fanzines, websites? Writing to as wide an audience as possible should encourage more feedback to help sharpen your writing skills. Think about writing different kinds of articles than the standard match report. For instance what special angle or insights do you have as a Saints fan writing for other Saints fans or for the general reader?

It's interesting because, as the OP alludes to, I bet most people remember exactly where they were and what they were doing on that day. I came home from playing football and can picture clearly even now the images on the tv as I walked into the room thinking initially, why is this on the box and then realising the horror of what was unfolding.

It's a beaut. The goal not his fcking big nose.

Pochettino comes out with some crackers: "They are a very direct team and they play long balls to get rebounds from.

Really good article and it hits the nail on the head with the main reason why he probably won't get an England call up. Rooney is sacrosanct isn't he?
-
Poor game. We handed it to them on a plate. Defensive errors in all of their goals, though Diame's was a good finish. Yoshida at left back. Lambert dropped to the bench. I hope the players take the attitude that they need to put that result to bed by a much improved performance on Saturday.

Clicked the link. Gave up on page 1. Five pages about one of our players says all you need to know. Don't they know we've got 10 others they could argue over?
-
Take your point and I think Arsenal have a more sensible, realistic approach than the other top sides but don't feel too sorry for Wenger, the budget is big enough to pay him more than any other manager gets paid in the PL.

Rangers score.

Sunderland 1 up.

About 15 minutes in. "One Nigel Adkins".

I posted this last month. I might post it again should it come to pass and I'll quietly forget about it if it doesn't: "I did the BBC predictor and had us finishing 10th. Perhaps a bit optimistic but I think we'll finish higher than 442 does. I see that 5 of Stoke's last eight are against sides below them. You can look at this either way. That this gives them an easier run. On the other hand should they lose some of those games they could be dragged right into it. They play Sunderland, Norwich, QPR, Villa as well as Saints. Their other games are against Everton, Manu and Tottenham. Could our final game of the season be a crucial one but not, as 442 see it, for us, but for Stoke? I had them staying up, just, but their recent form is not good."

Those stats back up what we who watch him regularly know about him, that he is much more than the big target man (contrast with Carroll's stats). They also underline two other things we know: 1) welbeck is in the team to run and battle for 50:50's and 2) the most obvious role for Lambert would be Rooney's and he Lambert isn't going to replace Rooney. As an aside the article contains the inevitable comparison with Holt again. Every time I see him lately he's either cheating or fouling (another terrible tackle last night on MoTD).

The empty seats at kick off wasn't good but leaving early is understandable. They were well beaten and effectively down by then. They know they aren't good enough.

Let's have these b@stards.

He absolutely does fit with our team and could be integral to it. Today he gave the ball away on occasion but did some good stuff too. The frustration is that there's obviously more there which we're not getting consistently yet.

Interested to see that Pochettino changed the tactics and had to laugh how he said there's no point in playing the pressing game against a team that just kicks the ball in the air.
