And a creditable draw for your plucky little club against the mighty Crawley as well. Happy days eh?

Saints willing to listen to offers for Pelle?

English, homegrown, in the final year of her contract. Time to get rid. Anyway, I heard she's off her trolley. -
I'm led to believe this is good news. The time to worry is when nobody wants to buy our players.

Interesting debate about Cedric. I'm never one to make snap judgements of players but I must admit that Cedric has given me cause for concern defensively. I'll put it no stronger than that because he has attributes going forward and he will improve as he adapts. What bothers me is his positional play and the timing of his tackles, which to be fair are fairly fundamental requirements for a defender (a positive is that these things can be coached). He mistimed tackles against Lukaku and previously Obertan. He got in too close and got done by both of them. It's not about relative strength but about positioning and timing of tackles. I think it was deliberate tactic by Everton to put power and pace on our flank, i.e. targetting those areas. We made it all the easier for them by ceding centre midfield. Being new, Cedric is disadvantaged by not knowing the players he's up against. It was clear to all of us that Barkley was going to come onto his right to shoot. I've seen it only in real time but my recollection is that Cedric didn't attempt to show him down the left. Very difficult against Barkley who is quality in those positions and may have scored against any full back from there, and I wouldn't hold it against Cedric. He will get to know his opposition. I think he'll improve.

Thanks. Tickets and train booked now. It's ours today. Mrs G won't be coming. After 24 years she didn't bat an eyelid when I told her. I'd think twice about doing the same if it were 12 September, though after 43 years you need no advice on the subject.

I see he's got the elbow raised.

To play so many offensive players against a pacy counter attacking side when our central midfield and defence has been significantly weakened is a highly questionable tactic. Romeu's quality.

Like what I see on the vids (usual disclaimer). Looks like a cross between MS and Carrick. -
Three good goals but that apart I thought it was a poor quality game, albeit packed with incident and a fair few chances. Newcastle are big and strong going forward and caused us problems down the channels, especially first half. As in the Vitesse away fixture we didn't retain possession well. Davis had a good second half. Pelle was good throughout. Content with the result if not the performance.

Not if you're Mickey Mouse it isn't. Don't see the difference myself. -
The Board may judge him by that standard. The fans may be less forgiving.

That Consortium bloke's having a laugh. If Shakespeare were posting on football websites I wouldn't give him more than two short paragraphs, maybe a sonnet. Article is pretty fair. One small quibble. I don't agree we lost matches towards the end of the season because we were found out. This seems a little inconsistent with recognition in the article that Koeman is tactically aware and flexible. I think it was more to do with small squad size/

I've been in France where they showed Newcastle v Borussian Monchangladbach on the box. Saw the second half. Newcastle were ok going forward but cr@p at the back, especially the centre backs, Williamson and Taylor. Run at those two with pace and we'll score.

i know perfectly well it's a double negative, thank you very much Mary Poppins.

No surprise there then. We play nice football and don't win bug*er all.

I decided in June to switch to BT Infinity Broadband and BT TV partly because of the Europa League coverage and the fact that I shall be abroad still when Saints play the first leg against Vitesse. I'm still waiting for the service to be activated after four failed appontments and a service engineer turning up to install a phone line I already have. There's more, the Call Centre in India and the poor *****rs who've been given dud scripts, but I won't bore you with the details. Just think very carefully about going with BT. They are seriously sh1te.
