  1. While in nostalgia mode...my abiding memory of David Armstrong is when walking over to take a corner he gets the inevitable "baldy" chants from opposition supporters, he stops, bends his knees, peers into an imaginary mirror and theatrically combs and smoothes his non existent hair before taking a corner (from which I'd like to say we scored).
  2. Probably apocryphal but I'm prepared to believe anything positive about Saints....and he signed, that's a fact.
  3. I'd given up reading the OS but I really enjoyed reading this and hope we get more of the same. It would be hard to convey to younger Saints fans the magnitude of Saints signing the top player in Europe. I remember before the news broke LmcM opened a fete in Netley and my dad came back and said LMcM had made some cryptic comment about signing KK. We didn't take it seriously at the time but low and behold he signed him up a short time later. If we have some money behind us next season I really would love to see him back as manager.
  4. Oh no, it's old Bo*lock Chops of Sandbanks.
  5. Ok I agree that Portsmouth has improved as a City. Now, what are you going to do about the ugly gene that afflicts the people?
  6. Yes I'm nervous about the outcome too; that if the players are sold it could signal the prospective new owner's approach. The one fact that sticks in my mind from the Lyneham statement is that his client has several millions which he is willing to invest to get back to the Premiereship. He can start today by retaining these two players. My expectations have been raised and I'm nervous that they'll be dashed yet again.
  7. "Here's the universal football equation - relatively successful and fans go to games. The clubs fortunes decline and fans stop going to games. You're no different to us." Er...yes we are. Relatively successful and we filled our ground.
  8. I heard Hearn was trying to sell Orient. We've just found a buyer. He hasn't.
  9. Anybody know what are the ties, to which this article refers, between Pinnacle and Aviva and do they matter? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/football_league/article6391071.ece
  10. Me too but clearly some on here take all this symbolics very seriously so I'm off down the pub for a pint before I offend anyone else.
  11. It looks like a four leaf clover which is why the Echo..
  12. The longer this takeover drags on, the less time available to prepare for next season. So unless we get a buyer with money to attract a good manager and players then lack of preparation will compound the 10 point disadvantage and therefore I can't see us making it up in one season.
  13. Stop taking the mick.
  14. "Intergovernmental Institute of Micro Algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition" - should look great on their poxy shirts.
  15. Hasn't been decided yet. Bentley was one of the ten and I guess he'll win.
  16. Barclays proud sponsors of the Premier League and s*d the rest. Strange way to demonstrate their committment to football.
  17. Having been born and brought up in Southampton but having lived in London for most of my life I'm always struck when visiting Southampton for home games by the hideous architecture approved by the planners. SMS is better than the IKEA store (doesn't deserve capitals), which isn't saying much, and the steel structures on the roof are vaguely nautical in keeping with the stadium's location, but overall it's bland and identikit like so many modern buildings in the city. On the other hand, in recognition of the fact that the stadium debt is a millstone around the club's neck, I guess we should be pleased that construction costs were relatively low. Inside the stadium the view is excellent (I often recall that I never saw a corner at the Dell from one season to the next) and when all's said and done, it's the people that go to SMS that make it special.
  18. I'd go with Boothroyd. I wouldn't say that if Saints weren't in the third division; I prefer the passing game. But I do believe he could get us back up.
  19. I got halfway through it. I'd really like to say I like it but I can't. And it aint Irish either.
  20. Yes you're right, confused myself with a double negative. I meant to indicate I wouldn't be putting any money on Saints at 16-1.
  21. They must count their lucky stars results went for them today and they have one more season up. They now have a dog's chance of attracting a buyer and avoiding armageddon.
  22. We start with minus 10 points so not all that ungenerous.
  23. I've lived within 2 miles of WHL for the last 15 years. We're not even on their radar.
  24. I'd welcome Coppell as manager. Good track record. Can spot a bargain. Plays the game the right way. Hope we're fortunate enough to get him.
  25. Lowe's penny hasn't dropped.
