I can rememeber going along to the Camrose to watch the Saints in a pre-season friendly when I was a kid. I was surprised to see that Budgie wasn't playing (if memory serves it was an early start for Tim Flowers). Instead, out he comes in 80's shorts, sunglasses and flip-flops with a deckchair tucked under his arm, strolls round the pitch and sets himself up on the side of the pitch by the halfway line to watch the match. Absolute classic.

Hit the nail on the head. Spot on. Had we not had the minus ten we would have taken the previous game more seriously. Had we won that as a result, we'd have finished on the same points as Leeds but with better goal difference. Speculation I know, but it puts the teams performance under pardew in perspective I think. It's idiocy to get rid of pardew at this point. The players seem to respect him and I believe we are much more likely to keep hold of the likes of lallana and lambert with him in charge. After the last few seasons we need stability. I understand that ml has put a lot of money into the club and that nc has done a good job so far, however this doesn't mean that everything they do will be correct.

If we don't make the playoffs and anyone dares diss Mr Pardew...

Some good points, but for my money I cannot understand why some on this forum seem to think that any manager could have done better. Many people underestimate what effect the fallout from the last couple of seasons with relegation fights, administration and the -10, had on everyone at the club. Add to that a summer of timewasters delaying our preparation and this season was always going to be a struggle getting promoted. Building a team from scratch, no matter how good the players takes time. Players don't always gel overnight if at all. Look at how great Berbatov's doing at ManU and he's had two seasons to bed in. Pard's has done a great job of getting in the right players and bedding them in. The problem is that our pre xmas run had people believing promotion was very possible. Hope can be a dangerous this and the subsequent blip after such highs obviously had many fans despairing again. Hopefully, whatever happens this season we can finish on a high, and if we can keep hold of the better players, take that momentum into next season. -
Puncheon Signs 3 1/2 Yr Contract at Saints
mulletsaint replied to Somewhere In Northam's topic in The Saints
I agree, he does have a point. Unfortunately, as per usual he can only find the negative to any situation. If he'd gone "Great signing, really pleased! However I'm still worried about the lack of a really quality central midfielder to hold everything together." most of us would not only be nodding our heads in agreement, but also trying to scrape our jaws off the floor. -
I guess with that resounding show of support you have your answer. You're always happy to dish it out, whether it's to the players you never watch or the the posters on this forum you disagree with. Always the first to call for help from the moderators though 'aint you, when in fact you probably make more work for them than anyone else. I can't make my mind up whether you are 13 years old 63.

Lallana was frustrating last night, often over complicating things. However the guy's still only 21 and younger players tend to have this inconsistency. Call it resting him or dropping him, maybe he does need it to freshen him up a bit. Not seen much of Waigo but maybe AP thought Lallana would do a better job of tracking back? He did this to good effect on a number of occasions last night. Talking of young players and inconsistency, Antonio' been getting a fair bit of stick, yet last night I thought he was the best player on the pitch by some way. Yes he's raw but anyone with sense can see the potential there and he's prepared to work his arse off. I'm willing to bet if he hadn't scored last night (and what a finish by the way) he'd be getting a right slating for missing that chance to square the ball early in the first half.

Wimbledon vs Saints - First Half & Half-Time Chat
mulletsaint replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
Did I say he didn't? Just saying the ref's not being even handed. One rule for them another for us. He made damn sure RL had to wait for his whistle and the wall to be ready for his free kick, but let them have a quick one at the end of the half. -

Good performance so far on the whole. Slightly concerned that we only have a one goal lead when we were so on top for most of the half. Good to see Antonio showing that while at times he can be frustrating he definitely has a great deal of potential, also doing the dirty work well in tracking back and helping the defence. As someone else said the ref's a real homer. Even that silly bit at the end should have seen one of their guys booked for a shove in Jame's back. -
Will they ****. nn

Good to see loads of idiots wishing for those days of instability again. Pardew out? WTF are you on about. Have a good evening venting spleen, I'm off to have some intelligent conversation with my 9 year old son.

Those of you expecting a defense which had 3 new signings in it to gel after virtually no time training together need your heads testing! I don't care how much they cost they were never going to happen. Let's face it James had to be moved out of the right back position and one of the central defensive was self imposed with the injury to Jaidi. I suppose Perry could have stayed in place but even 2 new faces in the back four would have taken time to settle in. Pards probably thought if I'm gonna change 2 straight away, I might as well start with all three. Sounds like the midfield was more of an issue as some have been saying on here for some time, putting the new defense under too much pressure. I'm bloody annoyed too but all this knee jerk ******** is just bleedin ridiculous.

You, worried? Surely not? The big surprise is that I agree with you. Don't stop buying now chaps, especially if we're talking about good championship quality players. I still believe we can push for the playoffs this season and if we can eliminate more of our weaknesses the better chance we will have.
-
Good to see the same old faces having a pop at the young players. All players suffer bad patches, especially young ones. Many people were raving about Antonio earlier in the season, now he's ****e. I didn't see or hear the game today so I can't comment on any performance but this sort of ****** (feel free to infract my scrawny ass) reminds me why I'm still yet to sign up to full membership of this forum and why I've been pretty absent recently. We've had our club saved from oblivion, we have an incredibly rich owner who's already shown that he's willing to splash the cash on both players and facilities. We are in a better place in the league than we had any right to hope for this season given what had gone before and the minus 10. Without that penalty we would be nicely placed inside the playoff positions, not mid table as some would have us believe is where we deserve to be. Yet we're still not happy. Yes I still hope and believe that we can make the playoffs, especially with more investment in the transfer window. And yes, I also worry that if we're not promoted this season we may end up losing some of our better players come the end of the season as some may not be happy staying in League 1. But, hopefully with our new owners it is only a matter of time before we do get promoted. There are always cup upsets. No matter how narrowly we avoided one today we won. Through to next round. End of.

Saw OL play on sky sports earlier this season while he was out on loan and have to say he looked pretty good. Unfortunately he did also concede a rather unlucky own goal too! Still give the guy a proper chance.

Trotman - is he as good as we first thought?
mulletsaint replied to wessex saint's topic in The Saints
I've only seen 2 games this season and unfortunately I wasn't impressed with Trotman in either. I was also unimpressed by Jaidi who I thought looked lazy and was caught napping on several occasions. In the Brighton game I was also wondering what all the fuss was about Lambert (I put it down to his bug). Not having seen any of our more impressive results/performances I'm not really in a position to offer any final assessment of our squad, hopefully this is just a blip. -
I won't be slagging anyone off, I've not seen enough Saints action this season to feel happy doing so. However I do feel that we really needed to hit the ground running this season, which obviously we have not. Alright we are behind with our preparation, but this excuse won't do us any good. If we don't start winning soon the pressure of the minus ten will build and I don't have enough confidence in the team yet that we will get a result against Charlton. Not only that but there are four relegated from this division which makes our task even harder. So yes I can see why people are nervous and upset. Having said that I don't believe that getting on the team and manager's back at the matches is going to help the situation any. Yes I'm glad to actually have a club to support, I will be eternally grateful to Mr Liebherr for that. As I am grateful to him for splashing his cash. The new players should help the team to improve, however if we don't start winning soon we could really be in the poo and as we have seen with Murty all it takes is bad luck with injury and we could be without a new player for months.
-
Must admit while we are behind in preparation due to the takeover dragging on, we really haven't got the time to ease in to this league. We are now in a worse position than we were at the start of the season, 11pts from safety. The longer we go without a win the harder it'll be to get one, this is always the case and this is compounded by the fact that we started so far behind the other teams. Games like today's are exactly the type we need to win if we are to avoid relegation again. Next match up and it's Charlton. After watching their match earlier on Sky I don't hold out much hope that we'll have reduced the deficit any more after that match.

At least the skates had the foresight to apply to be a candidate for the footy world cup, funding in it for them if england win the race to host it i'd imagine.

Probably not, they only managed a draw against the mighty Basingstoke!
