  1. I was watching the Arse match with the kids and keeping an eye on the score with my Sky Scorecentre iPhone App. Unfortunately it was updating rather slowly so the little exclamation icon on the "My Scores" button kept popping up first to tell me something had happened. When it popped up for the sixth time at 3-2 I had to look through half closed eyes! Nearly woke the missus when I saw we'd got a fourth.
  2. We could all see Martin had a couple of nervous moments on the ball, for one moment the kids and I thought he'd lobbed Kelvin with one backpass. However anyone that says he didn't have a good game must have been watching a different one to me. Commanding in the air, made some good interceptions and tackles, one last ditch one in particular as mentioned by someone else, was superb. Great to see him giving orders a couple of times too. I agree, let's not get carried away, but he deserves better than being farmed out to some league one outfit.
  3. Or maybe they'd have just preferred something else? I quite like it, but have to repeat something I said months ago. The sash and colours of last season's kit, set us apart from any other club in the English professional game (I think). It stood out. In red and white stripes we're one amongst many.
  4. Seemed devoid of ideas and confidence yesterday. Barely ran at the defence and his pass completion rate must have been appalling. The chap that replaced him caused United more problems in fifteen minutes than Puncheon had in the previous 75. I was actually disappointed that he hadn't done much when in the shop window. Obviously has talent, unfortunately an even bigger ego and pretty flakey to go with it. Am I right in saying that he was getting stick for bad performances at SMS before his fall out with Adkins? I seem to remember some fans saying this was the case. If so, it's hardly surprising he's giving us some stick.
  5. Personally, for what it's worth I'd like to stick with the sash. I too love the stripes but I think this kit is the best we've ever had. As others have said you associate teams with colours, however we are just one among many with the red and white stripes. With the sash we are pretty much on our own. Why not start at year dot again? We have a new owner, a new positive outlook and hopefully, soon we will be back in the prem reborn. Our own distinctive kit would fit all of this nicely. Maybe the red with white sash might be a better fit from the point of view of the past, as well as suiting our Swiss owners. However I don't think it will have the same visual impact as the current one. My boys wear theirs to training in south east London and although part of it is my bias, they are by far the coolest and the most noticable amongst all the arsenal, Chelsea and united kits.
  6. I don't particularly like his style (he probably sees me as one of the happy clappies), however the last three I have read have been fine and I'm not in the habit of digging at someone just for the sake of it. Still I'm not on here as much as I used to be due to the narkiness so I may have missed something.
  7. Tbh alpine has been pretty measured with his recent match responses. Don't have a pop at the bloke without reading the thread. Being a bit knee jerk on the gobern thread if you feel you can't get throught the evening without an argument.
  8. A draw away to Peteborough is not a bad result, however the way that it was achieved is rather worrying to say the least. With the exception of Butterfield I thought the back five were shocking. Seaborne in particular had a complete mare. Expected to Fonte to be more assured. Looked like they were all scared to death of CMS's pace. Not sure Jaidi would have helped as he is so slow he almost travels backwards when sprinting, although maybe he'd have been a bit more commanding in the air. No one seemed to be able to tackle at the back. Lost count of the amount of times The CBs and Hammond dived in and allowed their attacking players to turn. Felt that N'Guessan should have been brought on in the second half, as with the wind we could have done with some extra pace on the field. Forte should have done better with his chance but it was hardly an open goal. Lambert took the pens well but should have done better with two other chances. Absolutely no ball retention once Guly went off, which worries me most. No matter how dubious the pen decision, that goal had been coming for ten or fifteen minute as we kept giving the ball away.
  9. As has been said Davis should have saved the first. Seaborne should have done better with the first thought Harding could have come over to help as it was one against two. Harding at fault for second. Will have the wind in the second half but have we got the pace to take advantage of it. Think Hammond needs to sit in front of defence although his tackling so far has been pants.
  10. Yet another proud saints fan. The whole of the defence and midfield were superb (whoever was having a pop at chamberlain need their head testing. Front three worked hard but unfortunately I thought that Guly's final ball let us down too often. Don't think gobern was on the pitch long enough to be crap, although dickson managed it. He really hasn't settled in at all, has he? Now let's win the league.
  11. Don't know what everyone's upset about. He didn't rant about the chant, he was calm and collected and even finished up by saying that he thought we'd be back up amongst the big boys soon. Seemed pretty respectful tbh. Just had a little dig back after our dig at them, just the sort of thing I expect from our own manager.
  12. Look at the games played. Last year at this point we had played three more games. That's obviously worth a possible extra 9pts yet we are only 4pts off it. We'd only need to win two of those games to make it a better record.
  13. I'm not listening, but given the feedback on here from those listening to the commentary, it seems we're lucky to be in the lead. This is at odds with the sky reporter's opinion that we are deservedly in front. Who's right I wonder?
  14. Your username is so nearly spot on
  15. Far too many people in this country take what's written in the pages of newspapers and magazines as the gospel truth. Indeed the way rumours from here seem to go out and come back again from other "sources" days later, leads me to believe that the same is true about what is written on here, often in jest. It's true that Cortese seem to have a weak spot where PR is concerned, and that some if his decisions that we know about seem to have mis-fired, such as the season ticket issue and the photographer stance. However this does not mean that we need to jump to the conclusion that he is some sort of megalomaniac and thus that everything other people say about him is true. As others have said, if you look at the way saints have conducted their negotiations for players and coaches since he took over, they have all followed pretty much the same pattern. Lots of rumours by supposed ITK sorts on here, rumours in the press, but on the whole nothing definite until it's posted on the OS. Rumours that have come out seem to have been from the other side as is the case with Nigel Adkins and Scunny. This leads me to believe that NC is attempting to do things in a professional and businesslike manner. Admittedly how he and many other successful businessmen go about being successful may not be everyones cup of tea, but that's business. I'm sad Pardew has gone but doesn't anyone else think it's strange that if he felt he was treated wrongly by NC, he would have said something about it by now? I know that He may have been offered money to keep shtum, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of bloke to need money enough to keep quiet if he felt he had been wronged. On the subject of NA, he seems like a good young up and coming manager. My only issue is how the players will react. Many came here, some dropping a division, because of our ambition. This ambition was reinforced by the fact that we had a manager that had won promotion to the premier league once already, taking his team to within seconds of an FA Cup victory. I am sure this helped sway some players to sign. With NA itnis all about promise and I'm not sure this will cut it straight away.
  16. As more stories come out of Saint Mary's giving potential reasons for AP's departure, many in the national press, I've been thinking pretty much the same thing. Unfortunately that cuts both ways doesn't it? It's easier just to mistrust everyone who seems to be ITK.
  17. I don't like getting on your back (although you may think otherwise) but did you read his post? Admittedly the tone may have p*ssed you off somewhat, but he did hit the nail pretty much squarely on the head. And your response just backs up his argument, yet you fail to see it. I've said before that you do make some good points on occasion. Unfortunately the constant point scoring attitude is almost as annoying as the (almost) continuous negativity and as a result many discount your opinions before they even read them.
  18. I heard he swung the other way.
  19. Far too risky getting an unproven manager if we want to get out of this division this season. I hope to god it's not Zola. Not sure who I'd plump for though, although at least Howe has had a season and a bit in charge and has proved he can get a club promotion, and Tisdale is an obvious choice at our current level. Wouldn't be surprised if Hoddle makes a reappearance.
  20. Appalling timing with only two days of the transfer window left. Sheer idiocy. Either give him time or get him out pre-season. I am rather underwhelmed with most of the new candidates listed on various websites. Zola? Do me a favour.
  21. Completely shocked. Maybe this may explain why things on the transfer front have been quiet. The papers are reporting this morning that he had been I'll. They are also reporting that Markus made sure that in the event of his death his wishes for Southampton continue to be carried out. What can I say? A true legend who saved the club I love from extinction, and even in death has ensured that the club has a bright future. R.I.P Markus. Always remembered.
  22. Didn't listen to tonight's game and I like Harding a lot, but he was pants on Saturday.
  23. nail on head. Sometimes alps you do make very valid points. Unfortunately the way that you make them very often rubs people up the wrong way. As some who are in support of your thoughts on this thread have stated, this is a discussion forum and everyone is entitled to an opinion. Unfortunately you are amongst the worst at appearing as if it is only your own that counts. Differences of opinion and the banter and discussions that ensue can be exciting and interesting, unfortunately in this case it feels like drowning slowly while not having the will to do anything about it.
  24. Christ this is getting boring! Apologies if I tread on any toes as I can't be arsed to read through all the arguing. Apologies also to Alpine if he thinks I only come back on this forum to attack him. Let's get this straight, we are starting this season far stronger than we started last season 1. The club is safe, financially sound and moving in the right direction. 2. Pardew has had a whole season in charge and a proper pre-season this year. 3. We have got rid of all (well alright, most) of the dead wood. 4. I believe Pards has instilled a winning mentality in the squad which will bode well for us in pressure situations this season. 5. We have a stronger first team and squad than at this time last season. 6. Most of that squad have been together now for some time and are used to playing together. Having said that there are some negative points. 1. We have lost to good impact players for us last season in Antonio and Waigo. 2. A lack of pace up front. 3. A lack of cover quality in CM, maybe up front, and depending on Bart, in goal. 4. Teams will know what to expect and may park the bus/waterlog their pitch in an effort to stop us playing. None of these negative points are insurmountable. What lost us promotion last season was a bad start and the minus ten. I don't believe that with the changes in the club and the squad that we will get off to such a bad start this season. Yep there were bad patches of form but if you look through the leagues this is common in most top teams. Yep I am disappointed by the lack of signings, but on the other hand I'd rather have a smaller squad of quality players that the manager can keep happy, than a large one of stroppy barstewards with inflated egos. I also believe that soon enough we will have a few more signings, and while I agree, they might not have sufficient time to gel before the season starts, we have enough quality and team spirit already to ensure that at the start of the campaign this will not be a problem.
  25. Disappointed by the lack of transfers so far yes, worried at the moment no.
