The official 'how long can it take to say nothing' thread

Isn't this bee business a bit like Mandelbrot's question "How long is the coastline of Britain?" ? This may seem a simple question, but think about it... The more accurately you measure it, the longer it gets - its length actually tends towards infinity as you measure it with ever increasing detail -
How can you forget the memorable thorough and indepth coverage from our beloved Echo? http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4301083.Mystery_surrounding_new_Southampton_Football_Company_Ltd/

I'm not sure where 7 years come from - 6 years would be normal under the Limitations Act? I'm sure the deposit would have been exchanged under the terms of a contract to cover both parties in any event. As to the house analogy, remember that if the seller misrepresents the item you are selling you have the right to compensation. Caveat emptor only goes so far. The point I was trying to make is that the £x handed over was more to stop Fry selling the club to someone else than a fee to find out what exactly is for sale. You find that out before you get that far in the game. The exact figure was clearly less than £500k but the exact amount is private, that was likely a term of the contract mentioned above. Given the choice between £100k (say) and £0, then Fry would be downright negligent to turn it down. There was probably quite a bit of negotiation to get to whatever figure it was - somewhere between what Fry wanted and what Fry needed. I also don't think that Fry has implied anything in terms of the amount. Others have put words in his mouth, but he cannot be drawn into denying any and every allegation that is thrown at him.

You're not supposed to be able to do that under Football League rules. You have to declare the beneficial owner, which is not necessarily the same as the apparent owner. In the end, it's the Football League's train set and they can take it away if they feel like it.

Oh behave! -
Surely* you should think of the wonga as more like putting down a deposit to buy something expensive - you give them a deposit to make sure they don't flog it to someone else why you get your money and your pen ready. Putting a deposit down before you can tell what you're actually buying wouldn't exactly be a brilliant way to do business IMVHO. "I didn't get rich by writing cheques you know". * Don't call me Shirley, Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit glue sniffing etc. etc.

To quote the legened that is Donald Rumsdeld: "There are known knowns. There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we now know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don’t know" Or, in Saints' context, There are those we know who know, there are those we know don't know and there are those who we don't know that they don't know. Then there are the ITKs. -
Having witnessed this sort of discrediting and/or disinformation thing first hand (albeit on a much less important matter and scale) I can attest that some people are just jerks. Sadly not everyone's behaviour can be understood in rational terms, nor do they apparently need to have a motive! If only we were all Vulcans lol.

You call this a take over? THIS is/was[nt] what I call a takeover http://web.archive.org/web/20071013063025/www.thesaintsforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=21

Bah, why stop at the puny FA cup? Like many on here I reject your reality and substitute my own. Champions League final 2013 Back to reality, Yeovil away - though I'm sure it'd be more of a laugh if they still had "the slope".

Hmmmm, definitely needs more advertising IMO.

A bit belated here, but I'm heartened by TL's words and the unusually long length this thread reached before the obvious trolling began To win at poker all you need is a chip and a chair. Last week we were chipless and tottering upon a one legged milking stool. That stool has been swapped for a chair, all we need now is a chip! Er, I think...

That's about all there is to be said really. Except maybe 'LifeLongMilk, Maggie Thatcher, Paul Allen your boys took one hell of a beating'.

Or, more likely: Well them pirates do like their gold.

The really sad thing is that the staff have been put in an impossible position here. If they down tools and walk out, many of them will know that it will be game over for the club. The end game from there is inevitable, no more SFC They will also know that they'll probably have a bucket load of ungrateful and misguided SFC fans giving them hell from now to eternity for "destroying the club". Yet how long can you continue to work for free when your dinner table is empty and the your mortgage company is threatening to turf you out on the street? I feel really really sorry for the poor sods frankly. Not that I think there's anything really that Fry or anybody can do. Business is a dirty game I'm afraid. The more you try to push along buyers in these deals the more inclined they'll be to walk away. That's all unless Uncle Leon can find some more pennies, or one of the buyers gets the cheque book out of course.

I'd just like to point out a couple of things here: A bid is accepted or rejected by a quorum of creditors, not the administrator. That's it - no more, no less. None of us can really know what the exact state of affairs is because of the complex relationship between SLH and SFC. If it was just SFC things would be a bit easier to figure out. For instance, employee earnings are protected while the company they work for is in administration. The administrator has to underwrite the earnings of the staff he asks to continue working. However, I'm guessing the employees all work for SFC and not SLH, so their company is not in administration, yet, although it could be argued they are working for the Administrator. So, whether their earnings will be protected or not I don't know. In any event, unpaid wages are a preferential creditor and therefore trump the other "normal" creditors. Should they be made redundant, they are entitled to virtually immediate tax free statutory compensation from the Redundancy Payments Service or whatever they call themselves this week. Anything else can be claimed against the National Insurance fund, though this is a common law claim and notional tax and national insurance will be deducted. As a result of this, the employees may ironically garner more protection for themselves if SFC was in administration too, though I'm not sure how this works with this complex setup. A generous person could certainly loan money to SFC - it's not in administration so this is OK - and not demand payment until such time as the Company is able to pay it back. This would mean SFC is not technically insolvent so long as the this person does note call in the loan. The employees will be protected by the TUPE law so they cannot be dismissed as a result of any transfer in ownership of their employer. FFS don't panic Mr Mainwaring!!! Stressing ourselves out about this is not going to change things one jot. I actually have not seen any evidence that Fry does not know what he is doing and can't believe some of the things that have been dreamt up about what he is "really" doing. What is this fixation with conspiracies all about?

I think that the payment would go out tomorrow, not clear tomorrow? In any event there's several ways for it to not be a problem - the Bank can action BACS on uncleared funds if they're happy that a pending payment will clear. They could also pay by CHAPS tomorrow or do as one company I had the displeasure to be involved with did - issue cheques! I can also think of several ways that BT can cover or provide security - if they can be arsed that is. Of course SFC can always just pay late - bouncing "pay cheques" is more problematical than late payment IMHO. Oh well, we'll soon find out I suppose

No, it's actually a three leaved four leaf clover. Everybody get behind the shamrock FFS

I think LifeLongMilk would get the entire forum's* support, praise and adoration if he were to succeed in taking over Pompey. Oh how we would laugh - "All hail King Jackson" we would chant . * Or forums', fora', forum's, Forum's, Forums', Fora' or Fingwhatever On the subject of F5 keys, my keyboard doesn't seem to have one?

The current crop of tyre kickers seem quite boring compared to the past, where we enjoyed LifeLongMilk's many rants, the spottings of Paul Allen's Yacht, HelpMeDanWilliams, Barry the Briefcase & Trican and lastly who can forget Dave. Where's the fun now? One thing is as sure as death and taxes, no serious businessman would tolerate having some middleman sat at the top table of his new acquisition. I wonder whether LLS will end up sorely disappointed should "his" deal progress. Oh and buying direct from the manufacturer is inevitably cheaper than buying through a distributor; so I'd watch your back, chum. Before anybody starts jumping up and down, what is said on an Internet forum doesn't change what happens in reality. Knuckleheads like us bicker on forums about anything and everything. If some mysterious millionaire doesn't understand this, I'd like to meet him or her and swiftly remove said millions from the gullible idiot.
