Our attacking play is simply telegraphed to the opposition. We never ever turn defenders. Until we get the opposition facing their own goal we will simply will not score, apart from an individual piece of brilliance (that seems to have been trained out of the players) or a fluke rebound or error. The tempo and reluctance to mix things up is our main problem, we are so intent in trying to play pretty football that route one is forgotten. Now I can hear people say we don’t want the Fat Sam or Warnock football, but if we only changed our game plan a little, opposition would then have to think, which they currently don’t. For me an Olivier Giroud type of player is missing, strength and hold up play, with Gabbiadini running and feeding off a target man for part of a game would cause any team a headache. Why we continually cross from wide areas with no one in the forward line who could head the ball is beyond me.

Something I find mildly annoying is that the club don't seem to take control of the media situation... Even now you have to listen to the managers thoughts on he situation via audioboo rather than the club website. I understand the club not wanting to respond to every red top headline, but when you finally have a manager you can bother to listen to, they ask the same inane questions.

He should be stripped of the captaincy immediately, the club made the mistake keeping Fonte as captain when his toys went out the pram. I know the modern game is full of mercenaries, but this type of role needs to be earned.

Completely agree with the above but i think we should have changed formation after 20-25 min's, and subs were needed at half time. I am a big fan of SG and I am sure he must be wondering what the **** he has to do to get a game.

I have to say I am really pleased that Simon has been given the number 8 shirt, I have seen him play a lot over the last few years in the reserves and always thought he was the kind of player our first team lacked, I am looking forward to seeing him progress this season. However, the squad as a whole seems incredibly thin on numbers and talent.

Spot on and thank god someone is talking a bit of sense. Its obvious Pinnacal are doing everything in their power to try and stop the FL deducting a further 15 points. No one in their right mind would want to take a club on facing -25 when their business plan has been based around -10, not without a serious piece of renegotiation with the administrators who let us not forget put this deal together. Mc G has bad close control and not enough discipline to work as a lone striker. Do not get me wrong he is a good player and fine when he has space or facing the goal. However, our system does not play to his strengths and if you want to bring attacking midfielders into the game SJ is the player to use, or give the new lad from spurs a run in the side.

We played well, and like many of you the football finally put a smile back on my face. This is the first Saints team I have seen with genuine movement off the ball, making the sacrificing run to free up play for others. I have seen Gillett play many times in the reserves and he is one player I would pay money to watch, he never gives up and always wants the ball, Cork also had a good game. Unfortunately McGoldrick’s first touch is worse than BT’s and I am not sure if he is a forward suited to this system, I also thought that the fall backs needed to get to the by-line more. All IMHO. After this game I am still undecided about the league, but with willing performances like this St. Mary’s is a place we can finally watch some decent football, although i think that most of the credit should go to Prost.
