I like the 24 team format. There have been relatively few 0-0 draws, no more than you would get at a 32 team World Cup. Some of the so called 'minnows' have put on great displays. Take Iceland and Albania for example. I don't think a lot have teams have 'parked the bus', and once it get's to the final 16 teams you'll have plenty of the bigger teams doing that anyway and taking their chances on penalties!

I played at Weston Park from 1981-1985, under Mr Millar and Mr Bywaters. Great days and a pretty good team. Our biggest rivals then were Millbrook and Bellmoor. I remember having a few tussles with a young Francis Benali, who was a striker in those days. Also remember playing against a young Matt Le Tissier in a 0-0 draw against Guernsey. Had two trials for Southampton Schoolboys at Stubbington Study Centre. Didn't make it, but did represent Hampshire Schools under 18's at a couple of tournaments. In my school days I played for Netley and a team called Westwood Wasps in the tyro league. Great days. I wouldn't last 5 minutes on a football pitch now!

Big companies outside of football usually get rid of the middle men if the company isn't performing, regardless of how good or bad the directors are. So unfortunately Adkins will go, I'm sure of that now. Football is results driven, and we are not getting results. We are not even getting close, which is more worrying. Adkins, I think, is already secretly resigned to his fate, and despite all his rousing speeches, i think he has lost the players' trust. Saggy chops looks our only option at the moment. I'm not keen, but he does know the premier league, and he would be inheriting a team that is potentially good, that just need a fresh perspective, and approach. Bring him in, and let Adkins move aside.

Sorry to put a dampener on things, but I have a horrible feeling we are going to get gazzumped by Liverpool, who will offer him better terms at the last minute. This is after all a win win situation for Gastons agent who will be seeing the pound signs lighting up! If he can persuade Cortese about terms, he can persuade his player to go elsewhere!

I'm just fed up getting my hopes up, and a 'bigger' club come in at the last minute and snap the player up, after we have done all the hard work. Basically we are doing the job the players' agent should be doing!
