I totally agree & it was nice to hear Big Sam say what a lot of us are thinking. "You can't keep selling the best players & try to replace on the cheap. It's not good for the club or the fans." We'll just have to wait & see if tge club are true to their word. Out of interest, having watched our performances so far, how many of those who called myself and others bed wetters for saying we wouldn't finish top 10 still think we'll be up there? I stil don't think we've got a cat in hells chance. We're this year's Hull City. Personally, I don't even think Koeman will last the season.

Midfield / forward shape - not working, change it back!

What amazes me if Koeman's reluctance to substitute Pelle. If we played all night he'd probably be the only player than Koeman didn't sub. I just don't get it. He'll replace the supporting front players but rarely Pelle. I could understand this is he was a prolific goalscorer but he isn't. I'd much rather see Juanmi & Jay Rod or Mane & Jay Rod as a front pairing. -
CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints
What a load of ****. He's hardly likely to say 'I'm not confident'. Next thing he'll be saying is, 'Time wasn't on our side, we worked hard but couldn't get 'it' across the line'. The man really doesn't inspire confidence at all. Get RK on the case. He seems to have more influence when it comes to persuading players to come onboard. -
He needs to start at LB on Sunday.

I don't understand this insistence on starting Pelle every game and then never substituting him. I'd like to see Juanmi and Jay Rod starting up front. Failing that I'd like to see Pelle subbed and somebody who can give us something different brought on.

Southampton v FC Midtjylland: Match Thread
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd replied to Saint Scott's topic in The Saints
I honestly don't understand all the hatred towards Alpine. He's entitled to his opinion and I have to say, I agree with a lot of what he says. How many clubs qualify for Europe and then flog off their best players for a second year running? Surely the idea of qualifying for European football is to show your better players that the club has real ambition. Show them intent by bringing in better players who will help to take things forward. Not Saints. They just sell & try & replace on the cheap. As a fan it's extremely disappointing to see. -

We've turned into Hull City. At least we can get this Mickey Mouse European football out of the way & focus on trying to stay in the premiership. -
Wanyama Transfer Rumours - Summer 2015 Edition
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd replied to brett24's topic in The Saints
I have to say, I feel the same. That Everton performance really knocked me back. Hopefully Romeu will start alongside Vic and Caulker will come in at CB with Yoshida moving to LB, but even that doesn't fill me with confidence. -

They're panicking after Toby's f*** up last weekend and him saying that part of the reason he did so well last season was because he has Morgan and Vic protecting him. ;-) -
I don't dislike Pelle, but his finishing is questionable. I'd be more than happy to see him move on and us bring Austin in, but I don't think it'll happen. Being completely honest, I'd have rather seen Rickie come back and Pelle go.

I agree that we should learn how to say no, but out of interest, how much of a disaster would it be if we were to sell? I think the loss of MS was a far bigger blow. We might be able to negotiate a deal where we get a couple of decent players in exchange (permanently, not on loan) and who's to say that Juanmi wouldn't be able to step into Mane's role? Let's not forget, there were times last season where people were seriously questioning Mane's ability. Even RK admitted that he had a dilemma on a couple of occasions where he was torn as to whether he should play Long or Mane. As I said before, I'm not saying we should sell. I just think this whole thing makes a very interesting topic for discussion.

Sants 0 - Everton 3: Post match rage thread

Exactly. Everton are nothing special. If they can inflict that much damage then imagine what a decent team would do! -

Why does it take the biscuit? It's a valid point. Ok, so the term 'our policy' may not be the best choice of words but it's a fact that we have sold most of a first team in 12 months. When a club talk about taking things to the next level you don't expect them to sell off their best players two season's on the trot. How many other clubs have qualified for Europe and then offloaded their best players? I'd have thought the aim was to do everything possible to hang on to your best players and add some real quality and depth to the squad. The people running the club obviously think otherwise. I genuinely hope their business model delivers the desired results but given that other clubs aren't adopting a similar plan leads me to think that it's not widely regarded as being a good idea. -
Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly

Wow, that's a really funny and smart comment. Had you spoken to him at a pre season friendly I'm sure you would've shared what he had to say? -

Italian press are reporting we're in advanced talks with a bid of £12m. Other reports say that Everton are in for him. His agent is saying that he's going nowhere. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. -
I'd rather see Juanmi & J-Rod up front. I'm becoming more and more convinced that starting Pelle every week actually costs us. His finishing is often poor & I'd really like to see us try something else rather than sticking with him every week.

Celebrities who are tossers....

Sting - See above. Bono - Less of an arsehole than I was expecting him to be. I was looking at CD's in a charity shop in Glasthule, near where he lives in Dublin when he suddenly appeared in the shop. Chatted & posed for pictures with the staff in the shop. Left to catch the bus into Dublin! Noel Gallagher - Still owes me a fiver after betting me that Man City would win the league in the '94/'95 season... Liam Gallagher - Didn't say much at all. Noel was for more outgoing. Ian Brown - Stoned. Mark Wright - Sold him a B&O system. He talked openly about his time at Saints and his falling out with Lawrie Mac. Chris Martin - Tried too hard to be a celebrity. Will Champion (The Drummer & Saints fan) was much more down to earth. Sharon Corr - Stunning to look at but was pretty *****y and came across as being a bit of an air head. Guy Garvey & The rest of Elbow - Top lads. Talked for ages about music. Tim Burgess - Chatted for ages about his love of vinyl and his hifi system. Carol Smilie - Chatted in a queue at Heathrow. All good until she was collecting her bag after it had been scanned at security. My drunk mate suddenly realised who it was and said in a loud voice, '**** me, look at the arse on that'. She wasn't so interested in talking after that. Roland & Kurt from Tears For Fears - Had a couple of drinks with them in the Malmaison in Manchester. Jeremy Clarkson - Absolute ****! May wasn't much better, moody bastard. -

He's an absolute gentleman who doesn't deserve all the **** he gets. I met my Mrs at a Sting gig in 2010. We were going to see him at The Sage theatre in April this year and I proposed to my mrs earlier in the day. He heard how we'd met at one of his gigs and how we'd got engaged that day. He sent a card and invited us backstage for drinks after the gig. -

I'm sure you'll get plenty of stick for posting this and there will be a load of people calling you a bed wetter but for what it's worth, I'm inclined to agree with you. I honestly can't believe that people are naive enough to think that we'll finish top 10 this season. Even with 2 more 'quality' additions I can't see it happening. How is this a step towards regular European football etc? -
Still can't believe we've just conceded 3 against Everton of all teams. They're f*cking ****e and I still believe they'll only just stay up this season.
-
Just checked his past stats. His time at Benfica, Valencia and AZ is probably where my mate is drawing his conclusions from.
-
Depends which way you look at it. If you look at the same two fixture's from last season then we're already 5 points down!
-
When he joined a Dutch friend said to me, 'He'll have a great first season and then you'll really struggle in the second. He'll walk away about two thirds of the way through the second season'.
-
I feared this when I saw the line-ups. I don't understand why Romeu didn't start. Hopefully he'll be on in the second half. This is the worst Saints performance I've seen in a good few years. As others have said, it's going to be a very long season.
