It's a tricky one. Had Blackburn been promoted then this wouldn't have been seen as a bad idea. I think you have to try and put a value on what his goals are worth. It's like Harry Kane going to Bayern. Ok, Spurs got 100m but if they don't score goals and don't make the top 4 then they'll lose a huge sum of money and you have to say that it would have been better to keep him. As a club, are we better taking a gamble that his goals will help us get promoted or do we want to sell him for what seems like a relatively small amount and risk not having those goals at all?

This seems like a crazy deal to me. The press (if they're to be believed) are reporting that we want £5m up front. Why on early would we take £5m for a proven striker at this level? Who can we replace him with for £5m??? Surely we'd be better telling him he has to stay and getting some value out of him. I'd rather let him go for free when his contract expires. His potential to score goals in the Championship must be worth more than £15m with only £5m up front? Ok, the rest would be due in installments but if it's anything like the James Beattie deal, we'll never see that money.

He's a proven striker at Championship level yet struggled in the Prem, that's why people slated him last season but are now singing his praises. He's perfect for us in the Championship. He could stay and be. a hero or he could go to Everton, struggle all season and end up in another relegation battle - You know exactly what he'll choose. Players are greedy pricks with no loyalty. A move to Everton is not an upgrade. Saints have the potential to go up. Everton have the potential to go down. JWP could've stayed and helped take the club he "loves" back up but loyalty counts for nothing any more. As long as we replace him then he can fuck off to the bin dippers for his career move and pay increase. 😂

Paul Merson normally talks a load of shit but his comments about JWP were pretty fair. Merson dropped down to the Championship twice in his career and loved it. JWP jas moved to a club who will finish in the lower half of the league, where he'll be a small fish in a big pond. He should have stayed put and helped get Saints back up. He's loved by the fans and has been at the club all his life. Why stay and be a hero when you can be a bit part player for a poor Premiership team? Personally I think he's made a poor move.

Did we not learn anything from last season? Looks like Max Aaron's is on the brink of a move to Leeds so that's disappointing. Were we ever serious about signing him?
