The Guardian predict 14th place finish for Saints
Junction 9 replied to Toon Saint's topic in The Saints
Well if that's what happens then it's a sad place the club finds itself in. As has been said previously a top level striker and this whole thread changes. if we go into the season with what we have then surely it's Cortese that has failed to land his transfer targets. If MP then got sacked for not improving on league position, when everyone around us is also strengthening their sides, it would be a poor decision. We need continuity. To take us backwards is another thing, but to maintain league position and consolidate for a year is not a disapponitment in my book. -
The Guardian predict 14th place finish for Saints

The thing I notice on here is that when someone predicts a table position for Saints, it's based entirely on what WE have done. Little mention of the fact that all the other clubs will also be looking to strengthen and improve. £20m on two players isn't enough to improve by much in the Prem as most other clubs will have done something similar. Can you see City and Chelsea rolling over at St Marys like they did last year? Norwich have spent money, West Ham are signing players. things could click under Di Canio at Sunderland with all ther new faces. We also have the second season syndrome where newly promoted clubs have had a decent first year and then struggled in the second. To be disappointed or use phrases like "heads will roll" by coming 14th, just because we've spent £20m is laughable. -
Not sure even Swann could take 25 wickets in a test match.

A quite astonishing post.

I shall provoke the usual outrage from the usual suspects by stating that I don't hate any clubs, or fans. There have been many previous debates on here about atmosphere and how "hatred" is a part of football culture, and long may it remain so. This is not something I will ever agree with. Last summer the Olympic stadium managed to create an unrivaled atmosphere with the absence of hatred. The same could be said about the Ashes. Why would you turn up at Lords and hate the colletion of Australians sat near to you? You wouldn't. No single football club is different to any other, all have their collection of idiots. I'm sure there are plenty of incidents of away fans coming down here and having a bad experience after bumping into some ****ed up thug. They'll be on forums now stating "Southampton, just hate them" I expect. Next time you're in the pub and you see a bloke in a Stoke shirt, why not spark up a conversation? You might find they're quite similar to you.

Pressure on our batsmen not to make silly mistakes now, I can still see an Aussie win (weather dependant)

Perhaps they think there's no call for a 2.5l petrol over here then. I have read that they expect 80% of their sales to be the diesel model in the UK.
-
Are you talking about the CX-5? There is no 2.5l engine available and I've not heard of a touring model.
-
Having seen the other Mazda thread, I wondered if any of you have bought or driven the CX-5. Got one coming at the end of August. Reviews wise, seems to be a very good car. It was on Top Gear this sunday gone, but you couldn't call it a review as such.

Baroness Brinton on Saints and Premier League
Junction 9 replied to Toon Saint's topic in The Saints
Has she got anything to do with Brinton street being named as such? Or her family? -
Crystal Palace.

If we went into the season having just signed Wanyama and Lovren, I would say we would still be 15th or below come the end of the season. With more additions to the squad, especially a proven top level striker, then top half is possible. I can't see Lambert being the main man to rely on next season, he may surprise me and get 20 goals but I can't see it. Anyone taking of Europe is mental if you ask me, EVERY team we face will have strengthened in the summer, yet we are apparentley going to jump from a relegation battle to top 6.
-
I can see Guly challenging for the golden boot next season with RVP.
-
Perhaps he meant no chance we will lose 2 more wickets.

Justin Rose and Louis Oosthuizen, both £5 e/w

If, at the time, we were told we couldn't be given more than 44k for segregation reasons. How dd a club like Millwall get given 49k for the same stadium?

Any ideas as to what a genuine 1976 commemorative plate would be worth? It's boxed with 164 on the front.

Having now seem both teams play, I would say they are far closer matched than was suggested before the series started. Both have top order batsman that can get out cheaply with a stupid rash shot. Both have tail enders who can get a decent score if needed. If anything happened to Jimmy, then there wouldn't be much between the bowling attacks either. Swann, should on paper, be head and shoulders above Agar, but didn't look it over the last few days. I don't think England will completely dominate any of these tests, which makes for an exciting series. I'm all for that.
-
I'm quietly confident Jimmy will get a ton.

Having seen all types of footage of the incident time and time again. I now think it was out. The video replays don't seem to prove it either way, but the front hotspot cam and the snickometer seem to suggest he got nothng of the bat on it. OUT!!!!

Have a look at their average home attendances up to the mid 90s, less than 20k for most of their history. They get a huge crowd for an old firm game and that's it. Currently 46K average.
