Agreed, gutted though, wanted to celebrate my 60th at Saint Marys, no tickets left, so down the pub for me.

I think you may be on the right track with your train of thought Trousers, however, I would involve the first team squad if I was him, not involving tactics or in fact anything to do with football. My tack would be to sell the mission in what the club is trying to achieve, ie Champions league, not whether it is achievable more on how it is achieved and how the current squad and academy players would be a part of that; from a financial stand point I would being going gangbusters to bring more money into the club through sponcership, in addition marketing the club abroad, sure you would be up against the top six but there is always a gap that can be filling our coffers; a challenge for sure, is it doable? Definately.

The club is no longer run FOR the fans...............
martel replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I would not disagree with that, but since the conception of the premier league that was the direction that football was always going to go; this is a multi-billion pound business and just like any other corporation it is their to try and make money and if required keep shareholders happy as well, as much as I would have loved to see a good cup run and who knows we may have won it, the question is raised as to whether that is in the best interest of the club, personally I do not believe it would be, as much as that gripes I believe it to be a fact at this moment in time. So how does the club turn this around, first I think we need to keep our current young stars, then over the next year or two we will have more coming through, add to this the top ups from the transfer market so as to have a squad of players that can cover every position, that way we can compete in the premiership and go for cup competitions at the same time without placing our premiership position in jeopardy, like all of you I am gutted about last Saturday, however, due to the revenue the premiership offers I do not see another way around this financial trap, unless one of you have a better suggestion of course. -
On the one hand I agree and understand the feelings of most on this thread, however, let's just sit back and think about this, say we went all the way and qualified for Europe; how many believe that we have the depth of squad to compete in the premiership and Europe next season, I for one do not believe we have, on top of that look at the extra cost incurred as the revenue is not that great unless you make the final.
-
Yes you have a good point, however, we had been in admin and the plan was to get back to the premiership as quickly as possible, with that done we are aiming to make up 50% of the first team with academy players, Gallagher, yes we got him from Plymouth I believe, but he was only sixteen.
-
Quite agree, the top 5-6 clubs need to take a hard look at themselves and ask this question, are we winning anything or simply purchasing it; another thing that really gets to me is they seem to think that because of who they are they have the divine right to everything, my reply, get off your lazy fat Axxe and as Shanghai wrote get your own academy working.

LOL, you must love that movie as much as I do.

Donald Sutherland playing Oddball in "Kellys Heros" by any chance?
-
Just to go against the flow, I hope West Ham do not go down, may be that is because I am old enough to remember them having three of the 66 England winning team in their side, I do not like Big Sam or the way he has them playing right now, however, I like having West Ham in the premiership.

All done WM, good luck with it, on a personal note I would push to stay in the Ricoh.

Exactly, everything works fine until you bring in a government agency or ministry, government is simply a mobile cluster fxxxk, a disaster waiting to happen, none of them are either qualified or smart enough to be in the positions they are in, hate all the money grabbing egotistical S.O.B.'s. Ahhhhh, that feels better.

Guess he will only want coke at half time then
-
Is Rickie injured then ? I see he is not on the bench.

The only thing that I am not totally for is going back to stripes, I know a lot of you love them, but don't you feel they are now a bit dated, I mean would you go down town in a tank top, Lionel blairs and a mullet hair cut? If the stripes came back then fine, I would go along with it, its not something I would put at the top of my list.

as easy as selling life jackets on a sinking ship.
-
Cannot argue with that, however, it will of course depend on the agenda set by KL as to what direction the club takes; he looks good but the jury is out, first major hurdle will be MP, if he stays then all should be well.

Are you sure, I heard it was Paul Allen.

Maybe Katarina has better plans for the club than NC had

Interesting, if you go to the family web site their is a photo showing the family members that run the business, the lady above is not a part of that -
In answer to your question (transfer requests) then no, however, I am thinking further down the road than next week, do not forget that NC has sold the "southampton way" to everyone concerned at the club, in that they are building for the future, not just this season, hence keeping the young quality players, if that is no longer there then why stay.
-
On top of that how may transfer requests could be handed in? Not good, in fact very bad day for Saints.
-
I have to agree with both of the above, N.C. is a shrewd man and remember him being quoted years ago that he knew of other parties that would be interested in buying saints, so this whole scenario sounds like a game of poker right now with my money on N.C.

Pardew's Potty Mouth, is this what got him the sack?

Well spotted Suhari, now that really did make me LOL. -
Common sense has prevailed with your post The Kraken, yes the results of late have not gone our way, however, our performances for the most part have been good, do not forget we have a very young team as well and all of them will only get better, two or three seasons from now and providing we keep these young players we will be a real force, we just need to share the vision of NC our manager.
