Good Point Window Cleaner, and absolutely right. -
Liverpool FC. Is it time to stop any further deals?

We were in the 83/84 season, it is the cheque book syndrome coupled with the money coming into the premiership that has changed all that. -
Liverpool FC. Is it time to stop any further deals?
martel replied to SaintRobbie's topic in The Saints
Said with Passion Saint Robbie, but I am afraid it will not work, whilst I agree with much of what you say I am afraid some kind of embargo not to deal with Liverpool would never happen, we as you said have the "Southampton Way" whilst the top 6-7 in the premiership use the "cheque book way" to win trophies and championships. In my opinion those clubs are in fact deluding themselves and simply purchasing the silver ware, Southampton could also be accused of this to some level whilst climbing out of the League 1 and the championship, however, I feel we have redeemed ourselves by showing what can be done with a well run academy and bringing those players into the premier league; I would add that I do believe something needs to be done as far as the likes of Liverpool coming in and possibly purchasing three of our best players, this though has to come down from the F.A. or even F.I.F.A. under perhaps an amendment to the financial fair play rules; as Liverpool are clearly demonstrating that Southampton are a possible threat to a top six position, and therefore by combining there status and financial muscle they are in affect possibly removing a threat to there own status. -
Jamie White - ex Saints Academy- Now Salisbury
martel replied to captain sensible's topic in The Saints
I like to check on line now and then to how how Jamie is doing and pass this onto his Dad (Biological Father) who is living in Thailand if not managing another super yacht, he did have a trial at Chelsea years ago who wanted to sign him but elected to go with saints as it was his home team; it was Pardew in his first season that let Jamie go and probably due to those injuries as some have said, but he done great at Winchester and now at Salisbury, who knows we may have another Lambert, as long as he does not have to screw lids onto beetroot jars. -
I did too CB, what game was it, all I remember is shouting out the abuse.

well he will not be staying now, having told the club he wants to leave after the world cup.

Some positive news in the press ... Hope it's accurate

It does seem to come from the horses mouth, says a lot about Neil Lennon too, like do not send us your c.v. -
Not only agree, but have posted simular views on here, it is getting for me at least to the point that I am not sure I want to follow football period, I long for the times that Forest got promoted and won Div 1, that has been made an impossible dream, all that has been achieved with the premiership is something we all have critised for years, our very own version of the Scottish Premiership, the only difference is that at least we have four teams in with any chance as opposed to there now one since the demise of Rangers, FIFA's fair play has more holes in it then a poxy cullender, ie the ETHIAD Stadium, sorry but big money as I am sure you all know has taken the game over, but like most I really got behind the Southampton way, but as the article shows it will be snakes and ladders and fast running out of ladders, or as I would prefer to say "A one legged man in a arse kicking contest".

Exactly, the jury is out until then.

The stench coming out of the media resembles the same stuff that comes out of the back end of a bull, it is that bad I gag everytime I read it.
-
I have to agree with that, look what he achieved at Sunderland, he was the main man at Leeds too even though he was not the manager.
-
I know nothing about this Yakin guy so cannot comment, however, right now my choice would be Gus Poyet, he did a great job at Leeds (although he was not the manager of course) did well at Brighton and look what he did for Sunderland

About as funny as rabies in a guide dogs home

Well it ain't gonna happen, however, with the sultan of Oman or simular bank rolling it, then in a blink, sorry that is all football has become, a financial competition; we have shown as a club a better way with an excellent academy, but as N.C. stated, if you sell them then you are only selling your future. Right now that does appear to be happening, if Shaw and Lallana do move on along with Poch we would have moved forward one step and moved back two; maybe we get another very good manager and replace Lallana and Shaw with equally good players, by the end of next season the clubs who missed out on some of our players now will be in for them; not sure what the answer is really or indeed if there is one, the only thing I am sure of is that this is an ongoing saga which frankly I am getting bored with.

Gordan Bennet, this bloke has just made my day, I am 60 and consider myself ugly, turns out I was not that bad after all.

Sorry for the delay Viking Warrior, I have been away from my P.C. for a couple of days, however, I did have a brief chat with Jamal, he informed me that he is hoping and waiting for a new contract, seemed a little anxious about it and said that if it was not forthcoming he would have to look for a new club, have to say I felt a little sorry for the lad, he has probably given his all and if they do not renew he will feel gutted I am sure; again sorry for the dealy in getting back to you.
-
Had he thought what you are suggesting the chat would not have gone on as long as it did, they are elements I have left out because the post would have gone on too long, but both him and Jamal asked questions as well, which I cannot be bothered to mention on here, all I did was give him my view and if he does decide to stay (which I doubt) and gives similar reasons to what I said, you would all be praising him, you were not there and your thoughts are pure guess work, nothing else.

NO, it was jovial, had you been there you would have seen that it was just that.

Well Saints fans I have just met with Luke Shaw at Rownhams services with a under 21 player Jamal, I have written the conversation below as it was said. Me. Luke is that you. Luke Hi Me. Luke how do you cope with all the media speculation. Luke. I just ignore it all. Me No doubt you are getting good advice, however, just listen to an old fart like me for once. Luke Laughs Me. Man City have just won the premiership, think though, did they win it or buy it. Luke. They bought it. Me Exactly, so who had the greater achievement, Saints finishing 8th with a young squad some of which out of our academy or City? Luke. Good point.(Obviously recognized what I said made sense.) Me. Listen I am not asking you what your intentions are, that is your business and personal and you have to do what you and your advisers think best. Luke. Nod of approval and thanked. Me. In addition Luke, think about the Saints players that have left because they thought the grass would be greener, Beats and Bridge as two examples, both of the careers took a dive after that and do you want to be a bench warmer? Luke. That is true. Me. No doubt you drive a nice car and you can probably park it wherever you like, you won't be able to do that in Manchester, you will be buying wheels every other week. Luke. Laughs. Me. Please think long and hard about what Southampton are trying to achieve before you make a call, you can play a huge part in that, or you can be a small fish in a big pond. Luke. That's true. Me. If you were my son I would tell you to stay at Saints a bit longer, lets face it you are only eighteen, if you stayed till you were 25 you could probably demand even bigger bucks. ( Me thinking that must sound like an eternity to a 18 year old) Luke. Just smiled. Me. (They needed to get away) Just to say Luke, many congratulations on making it into the world cup squad, and what ever you decide all the very best, just stay with Saints. Luke smiled. Me. Finally, no doubt you watch football pundits say on T.V., just do one thing for me, Ignore Robbie Savage. Luke. Why Me. Because the guy is a Pratt and should be ignored. Luke. Laughs again. Said our goodbyes, could I have changed his mind, I doubt that very much, all I did was make the most of an opportunity to get my five eggs in, only time will tell.

. Thanks for that Saint Charlie, hope he makes a speedy recovery, although speedy is probably not the case for this type of injury -

I read that article with interest, fancy finding a ligament they did not know about, on another note, has anyone heard anything about J-Rod? Has he had the surgery etc? -
What the hell is the matter with the Daily Mail ???
martel replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Personally I think most of the press resent what Southampton have achieved, each journo has his team and no doubt it will be a choice of anyone from the top four or six, this kind of written garbage causes player unrest, currently they see Saints with a young and pretty much home grown side and no doubt they are all going green with envy; therefore why not write this with the hope that they just might be the catalyst that kicks it off, scum, all of them. -
