You have a point Franks cousin, however, It was LM that brought Keegan to Saints; on top of that say what you will about Keegan, but he took Newcastle, Fulham and Man City into the premiership; provided of course he has the money to do it with and would not recomend him if that fat cheque book was not their.
-
My dream, would be a Mr so loaded I do not know what to do with all this money, buy's Saints, with his his first appoinments being LM as Director of football and Keegan as head coach. That would give us a real buzz, we could tell all the banks to go forth and multiply; but in not so many words and get on with re-building the club. For any of those who have not read Mark Twain, he is quoted to have given the following definition of a Bank manager. "He is someone who gives you an umbrella when the sun is shining, however, as soon as it starts to rain he wants it back". That is so true and highlights exactly what happened to Saints, lets pray for the right result over the next week or so.

League deduct 10 Points - Will apply in L1 Next Season
martel replied to Danny's topic in The Saints
Mark Fry has confirmed that they are investigating that possibilty, however, Mawhinney in his statement cleary states that he does not know how football runs its finances. Should that be the case then how can this excuse for human intelligence make a judgement on the issue. BIZZARE. -

I have to agree with that, however, the larger issue is that his IQ is lower than his shoe size. -

I think that will be a waste of money frankly, the football league told the lawyers to find a way to dock us ten points that would stand up in court; that you can put money on. I think we would be better off not turning up for the last games just to screw up the final league positions, it will save money as the revenue will equate to the square root of nothing after being relegated already. The football league is run by a bunch of syphaletic c----s who know nothing about football, all they achieve is to create greater hardship for any club that finds its self in this postion. I like the rest of you am gutted by this decision but not surprised either, when it went to the lawyers Mawhinney was determined to find a way by any means; this of course he has now achieved, I will now take time out to consider whether I continue to even follow English football in any form. I am so disgusted by the whole dam thing, in particular the premiership, the SPL with four clubs instead of two, that is all it is, who knows after some calming down and thought I will continue to follow the game; however, as of right now I really do not know. Message to the football league: try a new sport like heading the shot, or catching the javelin; with you lot at the recieving end of course, W-----s. -
100% spot on

Again I agree with most of this post, however, Man U slip up! I do not believe they slipped up at all, I believe a lot of real football fans are getting fed up with the whole Premiership thing; our version of the old SPL, the only difference being is that we have four clubs not two, I think the FA and FL are begining to sense this as well; Something has to be done the whole thing is not sustainable, bottom line if Man U are making losses then what hope has any other club.
-
I could not disagree with that statement, however, the best it may be, but it is also fastly becoming as boring as the SPL. Sorry that is how I see it, we had a fluke FA Cup final last year, and the less I say about this years the better.
-
Have to agree with this, I cannot stand the sight of Mawhinney, after all what does he really bring to the party; basically the square root of nothing! He went to the lawyers and I bet their instruction was, find a way for the football league to give Southampton football club a ten point penalty, he will ensure that no leaf is left unturned in achieving his goal.
-
You are right in what you say of course, what makes your last sentence even more gutting is that four ex saints players are in that side.
-
I have to agree, it does make a good read, however, as my history teacher always said to me. When speaking historically the word "IF" does not exist, therefore the only way is forward. So we are in the hands of Mark Fry, who I hope has an eye on the future as well and not just the pound signs that he can obtain for the PLC. My ideal like most of you would be an extremely wealthy owner who can buy the quality we want from our club, as written in the past I am totally against the way football has gone. By this I mean apart from Man. U and Arsenal the clubs that simply by the talent they need to win everything they can, of course Man U and Arsenal spend a great deal of money. But love them or loathe them, both clubs have been built on a very long history of support and accluminated wealth. Unlike of course Chelski, Wigan and now Man City, players wages due to this have gone to insane proportions, so as they say, if you cannot beat them, then join them; and lets buy our way in too. Finally, as someone has already posted on hear, lets get Keegan in to get the ship steered onto the right course; I do not believe he is the best, however, his track record of steering clubs at of the lower leagues and into a successful Premier side cannot be taken away from him.

I don't know how many of you may remember this, but when to go ahead was given for St Mary's BBC South interviewed lowe and Cowan at the then site, one of the questions raised was along the following lines. To Lowe, so if southampton was to be relegated can the club still afford the stadium, the answer was along the following lines, Andrew (Cowan) has studied this in great depth and should that scenario take place then we can still afford to stay at St Marys. Well something went wrong their, my guess would be the massive increase in players wages that has been going on since the conception of the premier league. Some correct me if I am wrong, but I think the average wage at the beggining was 1,500 pounds per week.
-
I would like to second that statement!
-
My view is it is just a stay of execution, I would put good money on the Football league meeting today that they want to give us the ten point deduction. That is why they have gone to the lawyers to ensure that they can, and that they would be sure to win any appeal; their mind is made up, you can be sure of that.
-
Plus a ten point dedcution, might as well close the doors after that!
-
A big fat zero is the answer to that one, whoever, it is will get the club for a song as Fry only has to clear what he can of what is owed. So pennies on the pound will probably be the out come, the most important issue is, that whoever comes in has to have the funds to take us forward. I have no doubt that we will be in Division one next season, the football league will do everything possible to deduct those ten points to send us down. Therefore selling some of our best players will not be an option because quite a few will slam in transfer requests, so the job of rebuilding will start after they have gone. Look at Leeds as an example, just a few years ago they were playing in the champions league; and have now spent what is now their third season in Division one. Therefore our future planning has to start their, as for the premiership, who knows, the funding required just to stay in this poxy league is really out of reach for the bottom ten. Our ground alone full for every game could not finance top ten any more, even with the cash cow called Sky sports assisting to support it. On a personal note I see little point of even being in the premiership anymore, we would never be really be able to compete for honours, all we would do is fight for survival and as fans we would all be on anti-depressants.

How to hire and fire managers & bankrupt a football club. No way.
-
Should this happen then I would drop football alltogether, their is no other team to support for me, Southampton was the city I was raised in. I unlike some cannot find any interest in supporting a club Like Man utd, I would though concentrate some efforts into a new web site that I am planning. My view is and this is a personal view, that the FA, Sky sports and all their pals are in part responcible for our clubs demise. Yes we have had nothing but internal problems since we dropped out of the premier league in 2005, however, lets face it what is the point in getting to the premier league unless you can get bank rolled by massive amounts of money. All any club like our is going to do is pray for survival, sorry but I cannot get excited about that; therefore the web site I am planning will be titled FOOTBALL FOR THE FANS, with a sole objective of removing the top six to eight clubs from the premier league into a super European league. Sure it is a long shot, but when you take every league below that of the premier, then their is a lot of fans with ambition who just might think it is a good idea; Basically costs have to be brought down, in particular players wages, when you look at the figures even for the likes of the new borns, Chelsea, Man City etc, they would be long gone into Admin if not for a huge benefactor. So I would have a return to Div's one, two three and four tie up some t.v. deals, ban the top existing prem clubs from of course the Carling cup and the FA cup, and bring some excitement back into the game, remember when forest got promoted and won the league in their first season (I think) Derby county also getting promoted and winning things, this was not done with stupid amounts of money, it was done purely through good management and a financially strong club because the costs were so much lower, common sense has to return at some point and see no reason why the super rich players of the premiership should contiue living in a false world.
-
I never understood the logic of a points deduction if a club goes belly up, the best analogy I can give is, that it is a bit like kicking a man when he is down, it all succeeds in doing is making a bad situation even worse.

Then of course Hally berry was going to marry Mr. Tosis, but changed her mind at the last minute.

The those wanting change at Southampton, take Swansea as inspiration
martel replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
I have to say that in some ways they are of course, however, I do not know about the rest of you I am starting to think along the lines of their being no point in getting promoted to the premiership. I am getting so bored with that league now, and whilst I am happy for any fan of a club whose team get promoted; we all know that they will probably take the drop in one or two seasons anyway. Sky sport and the arrival of the premiership have really created a monster that at some point will collapse financially, it has too, especially in the current economic climate the globe is now in. Just look at the money being spent on players and their wages, it has gone well beyond a joke and is frankly killing the game we love. I would dearly love to set up a web site with the goal of removing the top six to eight clubs from the premiership, and starting a European league whilst removing the european championship at the same time. However, I do not have the time to do this having just started another company, but I strongly believe that something has to be done. Some of you will disagree with this of course, but think about it, if we got promoted our chances of staying up for more than two seasons are at best a dogs chance. -
BDSM at St Marys to raise cash for players wages.
