  1. Perhaps they are only high up the league because they haven't played Saints yet....
  2. A goal scored by Rodriguez and made by great interplay from Clyne, Lallana and Ward-Prowse - they could do that for England!

    Top 8?

Too early to say - we are 6 points off top but only five points ahead of 9th. Interestingly there's only one point between 2nd and 7th.
  4. Hard to believe that from the corresponding fixtures last year we didn't get a single win - just 4 draws and 5 defeats!
  5. They don't seem to be very confident on here... http://www.redcafe.net/threads/manchester-united-vs-southampton.377978/
  6. How times change! I have a 1918 programme for a matinee concert to raise money for 'The Patients' Cigarette Fund' and 'Easy Chairs for the YMCA Hut at Eastleigh'.
  7. I can't help but be impressed by the Liverpool fans' analysis of the game - don't they have WUMs up there? http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=qjms5g7391lseohvk6751sd060&topic=308794.0
  8. I am quite surprised, there's some very civilised comments on here - http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=424&fid=203&sty=2&act=1&mid=2112324525
  9. According to this, Pompey have been deducted 10 points - http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D3/overview.html If only...
  10. Hull City is/was the only English football club where you couldn't colour in any of the letters - they will lose that proud record.
  11. We certainly did in Southampton and both my sons who attended the school many years later also referred to them as 'The Monks' (sometimes affectionately, sometimes not). Perhaps it was a different year group thing... PS I am quite aware that they are actually teaching brothers of the de La Mennais order but thanks for trying to educate me anyway.
  12. Maybe but they were always called 'Monks' when I was there (left 1965).
  13. HS - Did you know that there are no Monks at SMC now? The last two have just moved to their school in Liverpool.
  14. Looks like it's on firstrow... http://firstrowuk.eu/
  15. Over 20 000 turned up for a reserve match because there was a rumour that Keegan might be playing.
  16. To be fair, Channon promptly told the Pompey faithful that their club was years behind Southampton in terms of professionalism and ability.
  17. No contest if you are relatively young - it isn't so clear when you have seen Paine and Channon in action at their best though.
  18. Dellman has summed it up perfectly. I also had a soft spot for George Lawrence but he wasn't in the same league as those three.

    Who are You?

I'm 66 and my first game was away to Aldershot in 1955 - we lost 2 - 3! My first home game was later that season - we lost to Norwich 2 - 5. I eventually saw us win early the following season with a screamer from Jimmy Shields in the last few minutes (2 - 1 against Colchester). I can still picture the immense area of green and smell the pipe tobacco...
  20. I also hope that nobody was seriously injured...
  21. Sadly, yes - I imagine that my expectations were too high (I was very young and impressed that we got him back from Arsenal) but Don Roper reminded me of a cart horse not a thoroughbred.
  22. The return of Don Roper from Arsenal was a huge disappointment - I am over it now though...
  23. The Bram Stoker theory ... http://www.elizabethfiles.com/the-bisley-boy/3255/ I haven't read the Daily mail story - it might be the same theory...
  24. It's not exactly a new theory, Bram Stoker (author of Dracula) also believed it over a century ago.
  25. What a good idea! It might even make it worth becoming a 'full member' again.
